You think everyone's a homer like you?

I'd be thrilled if they placed, it depends on who they end up getting from Europe and how they play after that.. I've been skeptical of this team from the beginning... and other than Honduras I don't know how the rest of the world is playing for this tournament.

Why does the Olympics limit their players to U-23 only? What's the point of killing for qualification if you're not going to showcase the best?

Why does the Olympics limit their players to U-23 only? What's the point of killing for qualification if you're not going to showcase the best?

It's the club v country struggle. Players are already involved in the Euro this summer. Add to that World Cup Qualifiers, World Cup, Euro qualifiers, Copa America, friendlies, etc., just too much football in the summers.

FIFA already hosts the U-20 and U-17 World Cups, so they created this in between category to stop the Olympics football tournament becoming too important (all the money produced in the Games goes to IOC). IOC wanted a tournament full of seniors once pro athletes were allowed into the Olympics, but FIFA was quick to find another solution.

Also, football in the Olympics has never been the star, and it only matters to the nations that do qualify and send a team to win a gold medal, which usually it's no more than 3 major nations per tournament. Argentinians and Italians did give a fuck in 2004 when they send good teams, but Brazilians didn't because they failed to qualify. This time is the other way round, the football tournament will have very low ratings in Argentina and Italy but will be watched by Brazilians, specially since the gold medal is the only silverware their national team lacks.

I just can't get interested in it the same way I'm interested in say Olympic Basketball. Probably because their are other more prestigious tournaments (World cup/Euros/Copa America etc.)

I'll still give it a watch and be depressed that Bale was born west of the border.

Suarez: Team GB fans lack respect

http://www.abload.de/img/luissuarezuruguaywoe_0xxrq.jpg

Luis Suarez has accused Team GB supporters of showing a "lack of respect" following Uruguay's 1-0 loss in their London 2012 Olympics clash at Millennium Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Suarez was repeatedly booed throughout the match, while jeers from the crowd interrupted the playing of the Uruguay national anthem when the Liverpool striker was shown on the big screen.

Uruguay were eliminated following the defeat, and Suarez claimed the attention he received from the fans is simply because they fear the impact he can have on a match.

"I think they jeer me and they boo me because they must be scared of facing a player like me," said Suarez. "They fear me, but that doesn't affect me. I'm just hurt because we lost and we are going home.

"I can take the abuse ... but I think it was a total lack of respect from the crowd to boo when we were trying to sing our national anthem. I think those things should not happen."

Suarez has encountered jeers since being found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra during a Premier League match at Anfield last October. He re-opened the row last month by claiming his eight-match ban was handed down because of United's "political power".

However, Suarez's club and country team-mate Sebastian Coates says the crowd reactions toward the striker have now "gone too far".

"I'm tired of this situation with Luis," Coates said. "I think it has gone too far and I don't like to see him treated like this.

"I know the kind of person he is and I think the abuse he gets is very unfair. He knows all his team-mates and a whole country are fully behind him and I think fans over here should leave him alone."

I can't believe you're THIS ignorant, you're just maybe trolling.

Did you take the time to google it?

Long story short, the Olympics are represented by olympic committees not countries. Olympic committees don't always reflect the political boundaries of a country.

A good example about this was the US Virgin Island whose athletes always represented the US (Duncan) until they formed their own Olympic committee.

The US benefited from a fucking insane call to tie it at 3-3. I've never seen a keeper called for time wasting and an indirect FK given. Just crazy fucking call. I'd be pissed if I was Canada. That being said, the penalty call was legit and there were several times where US players were taken down in the box with NO call so I guess it evens out.

FIFA Investigating Canadian Women's Post-Match Actions

The Canadian women's soccer team could be in trouble for incidents that allegedly occurred following their 4-3, extra-time loss to the United States in the semi-finals on Monday.
FIFA, the international governing body of soccer, released a statement on Tuesday confirming that an investigation has been launched into the Canadian team's post-match actions.
"Following the Olympic women's semi-final match between Canada and the USA played at Old Trafford on the evening of 6 August, the FIFA disciplinary committee is currently analyzing incidents that occurred after the conclusion of the match.
"Further information will be provided only after the committee are in possession of all the elements of the case."
There is no indication in the statement as to what the incidents are, which players were involved or what punishment could be handed to the Canadian team as a result of the investigation.
At the conclusion of the match, many of the Canadian players, as well as head coach John Herdman, were critical of referee Christina Pederson from Norway for decisions they did not agree with, but specifically a delay of game call against keeper Erin McLeod in the 80th minute.
Pederson awarded the Americans an indirect free kick inside the Canadian penalty area after determining that McLeod had violated the six-second rule in an attempt to waste time. On the ensuing play, she whistled a penalty for handball in the box when the ball struck a Canadian defender in the arm.
American striker Abby Wambach converted the penalty into the game tying goal, forcing the match into extra-time.
Canadian coach John Herdman does not believe his team deserves to be punished for anything that occurred after the match.
"I don't think we're going to that level,” said Herdman. “People should realize the game just ended and they had a camera shoves in their face. In the heat of the moment things are said. We just lost an emotional semi-final game and then they are asked to stand in front of the cameras. Things happen that both players and referees regret. Things happen, that’s football, we're moving on."
Canadian captain Christine Sinclair also does not believe her team should be disciplined for anything that took place after the final whistle.
"I can't see that happening," said Sinclair. "It was an emotional game. That's how I felt at the time. I didn't hold things back."
They really have been tremendous representatives of the country, we’re all extremely proud of their showing. I know they are very disappointed, that’s probably an understatement of how they feel and how many Canadians feel about what transpired. I would encourage them to do the only thing you can do at this time which is put that behind you and focus on the next game.
Earlier in the day FIFA had released an initial statement to the media explaining their position on the referee decisions made during the game.
"Law 5 of the Laws of the Game states that 'the decisions of the referee regarding facts connected with play, including whether or not a goal is scored and the result of the match, are final. The referee may only change a decision on realizing that it is incorrect or, at his discretion,on the advice of an assistant referee or the fourth official, provided thathe/she has not restarted play or terminated the match."
Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper also weighed in on Tuesday with his support for the Canadian women's soccer team.
"They really have been tremendous representatives of the country, we’re all extremely proud of their showing," said Harper. "I know they are very disappointed, that’s probably an understatement of how they feel and how many Canadians feel about what transpired. I would encourage them to do the only thing you can do at this time which is put that behind you and focus on the next game."
Canada will play France for the women's soccer bronze medal on Thursday.

This is what makes this the sweetest...

Mexican squad is basically Chivas vs fucking Euro "superstars" and they still managed to take it.

GOLD BITCHES.. Mexico is still Brasil's nemesis... you can say Brasil choked, but Mexico has never really been scared of playing Brasil, IMO.

I hope Mier, Peralta, Herrera, and Fabian did enough to get taken to Europe.. hopefully.

I know Mier and Peralta were amazing.. and let's not talk about Corona.

Peralta>Chicharito

He has been all this year... Chicharito would be a great player if he could dribble and create his own shot.

BTW

Hulk>Neymar

He's a beast.

I didn't like a lot of the hard fouls Mexico did against the Brasilian's mostly because they're mostly passive and good with sportsmanship.. but I loved the ones on Neymar. He was trying to show off against 2 Mexican defenders and they weren't having it.

Best part was all these players are from the Mexican league no euro players played.

No shit Hulk is better. I think he has like 5 years on him.

You can't really compare Hulk and Neymar; they have very different roles. Neymar and Pato is a better comparison. And Pato is obviously better, but he's also much more experienced.

I remember Pato shocking Barcelona last season with a 1' goal at the Camp Nou :lol

Well all of this will be forgotten in a couple of months, Mexico now has to do a good paper at the Worldcup. But Peralta should get unlimited praise, he's been the best forward in Mexico for awhile now, even better then that Chicharito who's all hype.

jds isn't in the Mexican lineup? Why?

Vela and his ass decided to stay for their team's preseason..

I think JDS thinks he's going to make the bench in Barca -_-... or god knows why..

Vela wasn't a for sure thing with Real Sociedad before the team was picked.

They're also not going to play for the friendly against the US, other Euro's are.
