Congrats :tu

Julian Wright with huge plays down the stretch. Eric Dawson came up big too.

For those not following along, the Toros lost the first game at home but then went to L.A. and beat the Lakers' D-League affiliate twice on the road to win the championship.

FT D-League L, too.

Props to the Toros! They've went to 3 games in each of their series, and they still pulled out some stellar wins!

Haha that's awesome. So not only do the Spurs have the best team in the NBA, but they also have the best farm team in the D-league.

Go Toros! I was impressed by Wright. He showed some nice hustle out there and a good shooting touch. Dentmon had the ability to fill it up but could not create very well for his teammates.

Great job by the Toros.

Let's hope that winning continues to be contagious.

Cory Joseph looks pretty bad in retrospect. In the first game, Joseph has the lowest plus/minus. Then without him, the Toros go and win two on the road.

Julian Wright has looked pretty good. Worth a look for camp next season?

Not to mention he looked absolutely atrocious in a meaningless regular season game that the Warriors were trying to lose on purpose.

I wouldnt be shocked to see him, Joseph, Leonard, some other undrafted guys in summer league first.

Always liked Wright's athletic ability. Was a scary player in 08 with the Hornets.

Why haven't the Spurs called up Julian Wright? Why Byars?

The need to rest Kawhi and SJax meant a wing was more needed.

Ok, so it's not THAT trophy, but I'm glad they won their league!

I remember a couple of years ago they made the finals and lost. It'll be nice for them to be able to claim a winning pedigree.

Do they get a banner for the rafters at Cedar Park?

Way to go Toros! Every time I've been able to see them on TV they looked good and were well-coached in the Spurs system.

One of these days a Toro is going to be called up by the Spurs and will stick on the roster.

The LA team plays in a high school gym from looks of it. Toros Cedar Park Center much more lively.

How long have you lived in Austin? If it ain't UT or the Cowboys, they don't cover it.

Awesome news! Went to several of their playoff games this year. They looked solid, but I was worried about LAs size, and was worried after they folded in overtime in Game 1. Great heart by the Spurs Jrs!

Does anyone know if Corey Joseph was able to rejoin the Toros following the end of the Spurs regular season?

He wasn't. An NBA player can be assigned to the D-League affiliate up to three times per season. Joseph was already in his third stint with the Toros, so he could not re-join them on Saturday.

Starting from next season, however, this limitation will be abolished and teams will be able to assign and call back players freely.

But everything is better in Los Angeles. That practice facility is probaby nicer than the arena in Milwaukee.

At least, according to ESPN thats what I'm led to believe.

They don't seem to crown a D-League Finals MVP.

And that trophy ... sheesh, NBA, have some pride. You let your signature LA franchise play in a crap arena smaller than most high school facilities (even the Greeks would be embarrassed to play there) and your D-League Finals championship trophy looks like something a UIL bi-district champion would receive.

14 years but it never ceases to amaze me. Actually they cover the Texas Stars quite a bit, but I guess that's cause they are the Dallas Stars' minor league team. :lol

2012 NBA D-LEAGUE CHAMPION AUSTIN TOROS TO HOST HOMETOWN CELEBRATION MONDAY NIGHT AT CEDAR PARK CENTER

Austin, TX April 29, 2012 – The Austin Toros became the 2012 NBA D-League Champions after defeating the Los Angeles D-Fenders Saturday night 122-110 in game three of the D-League Championship series presented by BBVA. Head Coach Brad Jones and staff, along with the Toros players will take the championship trophy back to their home court at Cedar Park Center and are inviting all fans to join them in the celebration Monday night, April 30th at 7:00pm. All arena seating is open to the public; there are no entry or parking fees for the event.

“Our fans have been great all season,” said Coach Jones. “It’s only fitting that we get together one more time to celebrate the championship and a great community that has supported us since the journey began last fall.”

Fans should arrive early for a chance to win autographed items from Toros players and hear special remarks from 2012 NBA D-League MVP, Justin Dentmon and Impact Player, Eric Dawson. Both received honors earlier in the playoff series.

-------

I agree, that trophy is atrocious, and finishing an exciting series in a place that can only seat a few hundred is stupid. Switching venues during the playoffs is not without precedent and there are gyms within ten miles of that place that could hold anywhere from 1800 to 4000 fans easily. Throw in the right advertising and give away most of the tickets for it and there you have an actual audience. In spite of some of the best playoff games I've ever seen, it seems like the D-League as a whole took a step back this season. Of course much of it had to do with the chaos caused by the lockout, but I feel there were many opportunities that were missed or handled badly.
