"@JMcDonald_SAEN: Per @Monroe_SA: Splitter's official diagnosis is a bone bruise. Doubtful for Game 2. http://t.co/isVj6Dak"

Well this is certainly the best piece of news we have regarding Splitter. I do hope that Dejuan Blair is ready to go come game 2. Looking at his past relative success against the Utah frontline this season, it looks like he'll be able to fill in for Tiago pretty nicely.

Could have been a lot worse as a sports doc and ER doc have seen bones fractured and ligaments badly torn by falls onto a wrist and from 7 feet up and in a game speed situation the fact he was not hurt more.

For those saying he doesn't need his left hand: a fairly high percentage of his shots around the basket (from both the pick-n-roll and posting up) are attempted with his left hand. Little known fact: He actually shoots a higher overall FG% with his left hand vs. his right hand.

It's not serious enough to keep him out of more than a game or so, but I think it will affect him on both ends of the floor, especially the offensive end. He's still better than Blair but the Spurs could potentially lose out on Tiago's ability to get you 15+ on any given night.

This is of course worst case scenario from where we are now. Hopefully it's something he can brush off and play through without any noticeable effect on his game. But knowing Tiago's history, these type of things tend to linger.

Without any commentary on this particular type of injury, in general I'd like them to be slow in bringing Splitter back. I don't think the Spurs need him to beat the Jazz, but he'll be a big part of potentially beating the Grizzlies, Clippers, and/or Lakers. Rest him as long as you need to, to make sure he plays with confidence.

Maybe it would be better to give him a rest for couple of games, if Blair plays well tomorrow. It would be meanless to force him to play with injury, which could even worsen during game time. We will need him in next series more, imo.

Good news to hear. Hopefully, Splitter will be ready to go by Game 3 or Game 4. In the meantime, I'm sure Blair is chomping at the bit for playing time and can be counted upon to be his usual "bull-in-the-china-shop" self.

I would agree with this. I'm reading that apparently bone bruises aren't quite the same thing as a regular bruise...No need to risk it but I'd still prefer it if Splitter played a game or two this series just to keep from being rusty.

Yes, the Spurs are favored, but the Jazz aren't some scrub team. A dominant performance by their bigs, resulting in a loss, would send this place into a panic. I think the Spurs got it without Tiago, but young teams like the Jazz are unpredictable and capable of gaining confidence and momentum out of no where.

I'm a woman...so no...

For the record, I don't think it'd be easy to play through a bone bruise. From what I've read those are significantly more painful than your regular bruise or swelling. He's obviously not faking his injury and he hasn't missed much time this season so I'd be cool with sitting him out a couple if need be.

As a Spurs fan I just think that since it's the playoffs and it's his non-shooting hand he needs to put a cast on it and play because the alternative is Blair (and nobody wants that to happen).

I really love spurs fans confidence with all the important for him is to be ready for the Grizz. news Flash: we have a serie to win before that, we just won game 1, there are still 3 games to play.

I do hope the players are not like most of the fans overlooking the jazz.

In the proper circumstances, they could steal a game in SA (their bigs going hard and harris and hayward taking off for a barrage of 3s) and build a momentum going back to Utah.

Tyson Chandler suffered a severe bone bruise to his left wrist earlier this year. He didn't miss a game. And that was the regular season.

But yeah, I'd rather Splitter sit then go out there and play tentatively. DeJuan Blair is an adequate fill-in versus the Jazz. As long as Pop avoids playing Blair and Bonner together, the Spurs should be fine without Splitter for a game or maybe two.

Spurs backup forward-center Tiago Splitter is available for tonight’s game against Utah, although Spurs coach Gregg Popovich sounded like he would prefer to keep him out of the lineup if possible for Game 2 tonight against the Jazz.
