Transcript of unaired interview:

Bucher: You made a point of resting your guys in the regular season. We're now three quarters into the postseason. What effect have you seen it have?

Pop: Well, you know, I don't know, we just, uh, you know, we just felt that we needed to rest them to prepare ourselves so that's what we did.

Bucher: Okay. Tony Parker mentioned at halftime that he thought the rebounding needed to improve. Did you see that?

Pop: Tony Parker.

Bucher: Yes.

Pop: Our point guard.

Bucher: Yes.

Pop: Our point guard is talking about rebounds? Why would our point guard be talking about rebounding?

Bucher: Look, you tell me what you thought about the rebounding.

Pop: That's the third question! (walks away)

I looked for that... I was at the game watching the interview... (couldn't tell what was said) and saw that they were laughing their asses off down there... came back... watched the game and... what? cut to rap intro?

You're never going to see another coach toy with the media in the same way Pop does ever again in the NBA. I've been enjoying this for years but I would love to see video of that exchange.

If you listen further with Bucher, he decides to put an * on this season's title winner because of all the injuries...

If the Spurs get stronger as the playoffs go on....so will the * talk by talking heads because they always build in excuses for their beloved big market teams.

My personal opinion:

If the Spurs, Lakers, Mavs, or Celtics win, there should be no * talk because these teams have proven themselves in full seasons recently.

If anyone else wins, it won't be an * but they will have to win another one in a full season with the same core players to help validate it.

I always get the impression, there's certain interviewers Pop can't stand, like Bucher and Sager. Maybe it's happened, but I've never seen him go off on Cheryl Miller.

So you think the 99 Spurs should have an *. Cuz they sure as hell didn't win anything in the years prior to 99.

At least Cheryl Miller, though annoying, is the GOAT of the women's game, so I imagine there is some respect there, but yea I have noticed that too to an extent.

One thing that Bucher said that pissed me off is the whole "I picked OKC at the beginning of the year so I'm sticking with em, I would pick the Spurs but I picked OKC to begin the year" bs. I hate when analysts do this, the whole Bush/Kerry campaign in 2004 made flip-flopping a national stigma. Bucher isnt the only one to say this either, lots of people make similar remarks. My god it is your job to analyze the sport, at the beginning of the year youre just predicting, now once you have an entire season to analyze you can't make a more informed decision? So aggravating that analysts worry about not being a flip-flopper instead of making the most informed choice.

I doubt pop would ever go off on a woman. He also doesn't go after Chris Mullin because he's a former player of his

Pop is the king of media interviews. I remember when his answer for a long question was simply "he's manu ginobili" and then just walked away.

Um no. I dont think you read my post correctly. I dont think any championship deserves an asterisk. But winning another after a lockout helps to "validate" any naysayers.

The Spurs won in 99. The asterisk talk, deserved or not, did not really go away until they won in again 03, especially after getting embarrassed by the lakers in 01 and 02. The 05 championship pretty much put it to bed except for laker fan that uses to get under Spurs fans skin.
