View Full Version : Injury Thread: Bonner Leaves Game 2

It looks like Matt Bonner got kneed in the thigh in the first half in a collision with Derrick Favors. He stayed in but Bonner hasn't played yet in the second half.

Anyone hear any type of injury update? Perhaps Pop is just sitting his franchise player with the Spurs up by 2423410 in the second half . . .

He's too soft. He was too scared he might get bumped in the 2nd half.

Fwiw, Bonner had trouble walking from the bench to the locker room at the end of the game (from being cold/sitting and soreness from the injury probably).

Too me it really liked like a shot to the groin, but it was hard to tell, the replay was wide angle zoomed out. I think hell be fine.

It was an awkward collision/fall. If it's just a bruise, he should be fine (well ... nah, won't go there). I'm just hoping he didn't twist anything on the way down.

He should just sit out the rest of the postseason so his fans can remember him fondly.

They said tiago could have played today on the broadcast during the game, and was held out unless needed.

Bonner just took a knee to the groin, which if he was wearing a cup would explain the walk and can bruise the groin in funny ways.

For what its worth, I think Bonner has the potential to be more valuable than Splitter this series. If he can shoot his normal 3pt % then he'll own the Jazz like a silent assassin. So here's to hoping he's ready to go in games 3 and 4.

That doesn't really make sense if he wants the Spurs to get rid of a guy who's failing to help out on the glass. The idea being that more boards=a better chance at a championship of course.

Spurs7794

I don't know if anyone else saw this but right as it happened, I thought Favors stepped on Bonner's foot and then collided with him. Because his foot was stuck, it looked like his leg torqued awkwardly and then he went down. At least thats what I saw.

Did you see him out there today? He was getting abused by the Jazz frontline, didnt grab a single board and probably gave up about 4-5 offensive rebounds. I think the Jazz cut the Spurs 14 point lead to like 5 with him out there and as soon as Diaw replaced him they went on a 22-2 run and didnt look back. Ginger aint no silent assassin tbh.

All the people on here saying we are better without bonner are idiots, so tell me then who do you want to replace him blair? Bonner may not be the perfect big but he spreads the floor as stupid and repetitive as it sounds it is true and his defense is much better than what most people on here say it is. Remeber having Splitter, Bonner combo out there helps both players out to perform better as opposed to the turd towers we saw tonight for a bit.

Relax on the D part man, what are you saying he is GOOD at D now? I agree we are not better without him if he is hitting, if he is not hitting a shot in the game and he is gettin abused down low like last year Memphis series then he is horrible, if he is hitting some shots and playing OK D the Spurs are better. Much better on D though is not a word I would use in the same sentence.

Yeah he got abused on the boards. Surprise surprise.. Bonner has always been a below average rebounder. Despite all the rebounding related compliments he received in game threads and in game grade threads, he actually got worse this year. He is boosting a career low 9.3 TRB%, a statistic that has been on the decline since 2006/2007.

His strengths lies elsewhere. For example, his post defense on Millsap was pretty good. Spreading the floor against this Utah team is also crucial. They suck at defending the pick and roll and isolation plays; therefore proper spacing really owes their defense. If Bonner can hit 40%+ of his 3 point shots then the Spurs are going to have a pretty easy series victory.

Matt has his positive contributions to the team. I'm sure most Spurs fans at the arena would not leave anyone hanging on a "high 5" attempt after Matty-B hits a three-pointer. Baseline Bummers wouldn't...to a person.

With that said, whenever Boris hits a shot from the arc, that little "confidence man" from Cars.com pops up from my shoulder and starts singing in full voice!!! :king :lobt2:
