Mechanical Swiss wrist watches. It's the mechanical aspect of these that still gets me. I have a good understanding and knowledge of electronics, IT and telecommunications, but a nice mechanical auto winding watch still amazes me.

I have several that I have slowly bought over the years, some old a few new. I currently wear an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean.

I wear a watch all the time. Started wearing watches when I was 15. I feel like something is missing and get nervous if I don't wear one.

Those things are no different than parachute pants. Don't buy a watch as a fad. Buy a timepiece that you would feel OK wearing in 10 years. Regardless of if you plan to buy another watch before then.

Yes they are. You can pick up really cheap (cheap by Rolex standards) vintage Rolexes in Geneva and in Zurich, but you need to know your stuff - the good models are of course crazy expensive.

I also don't like how they look, I have maybe seen two Rolex watches that I thought were nice.

I don't think I would ever wear a Rolex tbh. Seems like a douchebag watch.

I would not wear one because of many reasons, but I would love to own one just for the technical/legendary aspect of the oyster case. I saw a beautiful Yacht Master one once with a blue dial, my enthusiasm faded when the guy pointed out that the housing wasn't inox, but white gold...

So yeah, I appreciate the brand, but will most probably never own one.

I would just beat the crap out of watches back when I wore one. Crystal would be all scratched to shit within a year. I quit wearing watches when I started carrying a cell phone 24/7 that also works as a clock and an alarm. It just didn't make sense.

Watches still make sense for me. I keep my cell phone in my pocket so it's much easier to glance down at my wrist to see what time it is than dig in my pocket and pull out my cellphone past my fat wallet.

Just a fashion accessory at this point in time. No need in wearing a watch for to tell the time unless you dont own a cell phone.

But I used to be a fan of Fossill, now I prefer the Kenneth Cole Unlisted collection.

because I couldn't justify spending this much to get this one;

and my everyday watch is a Tissot classic that wifey bought me on our honeymoon so it has sentimental value (could not find a pic as it is 11 years old) but it is a fine watch and has never failed...

I just gave a Luminox Blackout watch like this one to my son;

I don't wear a watch (or own a calendar; I'm usually just lucky to be where I'm supposed to be when I'm supposed to be there). A few days ago my Dad brought me a jewelry box that belonged to my Mom, and in it was a very small, delicate watch by Wittnauer, that from what my Dad knew about it, is probably about 100 years old. It wound right up and is keeping good time. There are some markings inside that are partially rubbed off, I can't make them out. But the box is in very good condition and I'm hoping that I can track down the style and letterings on the box to determine the age of the watch. I think I'd like to have the watch cleaned up to wear, cuz its so cool looking :)

I tell them I got bottles of champagne more expensive than their Rolex and explain to them the cost of my watch is comparable to that of their Ferrari 458 they think they're such hot shit for owning. They get all meek and reply, "For real? That watch cost much as my ride?" I look at them, and with as much smugness as I can muster, I say, "Try 3 of your rides."

(If you're wondering how I happened to be in proximity to the kind of black person who can afford 60K watches and Ferraris, I'm a movie producer and our studio is always trying to manufacture some rapper into the next big Hollywood star.)

I got this

Gunmetal Stainless Steel Automatic Watch

http://s7d2.scene7.com/is/image/FossilPartners/ZR11853_main?resMode=sharp2&op_sharpen=1&rgn=0,0,2000,2000&scl=5

honestly I never use it... got it for 90, 120 retail.

Fossil makes that too.

From someone who knows about about watches: is the g-shock a good watch (just overall) and considered pretty stylish? I am thinking about getting one for my brother who likes watches and the purpose of this one would be a sportier watch he can wear while golfing and such.

Thanks in advance..

I asked my gf for this one for xmas - if she doesn't get it for me I'll probably get it myself. I fucking hate having to check my phone for the time. Been a few years since I wore one regularly and am ready to retire my old watch (Guess)

g-shocks are good, durable watches. i have about 10 of them mainly for work. their thing now is all these badass color schemes and back lighting. can't go wrong with a g-shock. price range is between $50 for a plane jane one to $600 for one of those "special edition" ones.

I posted the g shock im currently wearing on page 2.
I have 3 g shocks in rotation for different activities. One for boating/water activities, one for work, one for outdoor land activities.
The thing about g shocks is it's so loaded with features that you have to choose the model that suits the activity versus choosing one that just looks good.

Look at the atomic solar riseman, a lot of golfers seem to wear that.

I have a pretty standard Wenger Swiss Army watch. I also have a fake Rolex I bust out every now and then courtesy of the Successful Uncle.

Yes. And Armani has licensed fossil to make their watches. They do it for DKNY, Diesel, Burbury, Michael Kors, etc. licensing is a huge business for Fossil in addition to their own brands.

I used to be into watches big time and have a pretty nice collection of about 20 watches. Oddly, about half the time I don't even wear one. But I was big into Stuerling and Invicta as well a couple of Omegas and a Citizen. Now that I am retired, I have no place I have to be. Been thinking about selling some of them.

Well, thank you for that info. I wasn't aware of that. Maybe I will consider that next time I'm shopping for a nice piece.
