Early injury news is that TOSB Puyol is doubtful for Spain while Per Mertesacker and Darrent Bent are in line to return from injury for Germany and England.
Predictions? I say...
Group A - Czech Republic + Greece to qualify
Group B - Germany and Holland to qualify (That's a damn interesting group though)
Group C - Spain + Italy to qualify
Group D - France + England to Qualify
And then Germany to win it all.

2http://img.uefa.com/imgml/flags/18x18/eng.png England (will blow out Ukraine in the last game to make it, after nearly skrewing up)
3http://img.uefa.com/imgml/flags/18x18/swe.png Sweden (only beating Ukraine)
4http://img.uefa.com/imgml/flags/18x18/ukr.png Ukraine (country will fall apart and teams prob will have to be evacuated)

Lets try to predict the starting lineups and give an idea of their strenght/weaknesses:
Germany:
Starters:
---------------------------Miroslav Klose---------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Lukas Podolski---------------Mesut Özil---------------Thomas Müller
-------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------Sami Khedira-----------Bastian Schweinsteiger--------
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Philipp Lahm---Holger Badstuber---Per Mertesacker---Jérôme Boateng
-------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------Manuel Neuer---------------------------
Primary Subs:
Forwards: Mario Gómez + Marco Reus (more like a Counter Forward)
Midfielder: Mario Götze + Toni Kroos
Defense: Mats Hummels
may get no playing time at all:
Andre Schürrle
Ilkay Gundogan
Lars Bender
Marcel Schmelzer
Benedikt Howedes
Tim Wiese
Ron-Robert Zieler
Strenght: A lot of talent in terms of playmaking on the midfield positions. They might play more offensive than the lineup might suggest with either Schweinsteiger/Khedira attacking more or one of them beeing replaced by Kroos/Götze who are more offensiv anyway. Probably all midfielders but Podolski (which should stay at the left lane) are very versatile and can change positions a lot. After all they are a little like a poor mans Spain/Barca which isn't a bad thing.
Weakness: The defense can't keep up to the level the offense sets. There just are not that many top notch players, with Lahm and Neuer beeing the only real standouts. Look for some bad mistakes especially with the Center Backs!
Biggest Question: Can the midfield generate enough ball control to hide the challenged defense?
Prediction:
As I wrote before, I don't think the preparation was good (not counting the friendly vs. Switzerland) and a letdown year is due (each team has it once every few big tournaments). I think they will get kicked out early, probably loosing the first game vs. Portugal and never putting it together after that.

Frank Lampard ruled out of England's Euro 2012 squad (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18265377)
Frank Lampard is out of England's Euro 2012 campaign with a thigh injury suffered in training on Wednesday.
The news was confirmed after the Chelsea midfielder, 33, was examined by medical staff after a scan.
Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson will be called into the squad, subject to agreement from Uefa's medical team.
"It's a huge blow for the team, especially coming after the loss of another senior player in Gareth Barry," said manager Roy Hodgson.
"The fact that the doctor cannot guarantee Frank could take part in any of the group matches means we have to replace him in the central midfield area.
"Apart from it being a huge blow to me and the team, I'm especially disappointed for Frank himself," he added.
"He has been in very good form and was looking forward to the tournament. He made a huge contribution towards us qualifying for the Euros so it is cruel to be forced out through injury just before the tournament."
Chelsea's Lampard is one of the most experienced players Hodgson had to call upon, with 90 caps.
BBC Sport's chief football writer Phil McNulty believes Lampard's absence will be a big loss to the squad.
"Frank Lampard has occasionally been a maligned figure for England - but his loss from the Euro 2012 squad will be a heavy blow for manager Roy Hodgson," he said.
"Lampard has maturity, experience and continues to be a winner as proved by his vital role in Chelsea's Champions League and FA Cup victories.
"He may not have started England's first Euro 2012 game against France but his presence and professionalism around the squad is always beneficial and he would have been determined to force his way into the side."
Manager Roy Hodgson is already without another experienced midfielder in Barry, who was ruled out of the tournament after suffering a groin injury in the 1-0 win over Norway.
If Henderson, 21, is allowed to replace Lampard then Liverpool will be the most represented club in Hodgson's squad, with five, despite a disappointing season which saw them eighth in the Premier League.

Right now it's a three-way horse race with La Furia Roja, Die Mannschaft and Oranje. At least that's the way I see it. From a betting perspective and if you don't really have emotional investment or preference for any of these teams, it's best to diversify. :lol

Word. I won both times in the past that I bet on La Furia Roja and so I was looking to perhaps complete the trifecta. I will probably sit this one out and wait until the WC in 2014. I'm kinda excited to watch some of these match-ups. I have been terribly bored by the product of MLS tripe being passed as soccer these days.

Definitely agree those are the top 3 teams, but it wouldn't shock me to see either Germany or Netherlands to not make the knock-out stage. With Portugal and Denmark in that group, it makes it too unpredictable. I think they'll both advance, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I just think Spain is a too obvious of a pick. They certainly have a clear advantage over every team, they probably have one of the best defense + midfield combinations of all time. It's just absurd that guys like Fabregas, Silva, Mata all come off the bench. I would kill for any of them to start for Argentina. Argentina has shit defenders and midfielders, out of their top 10 players probably 8 or 9 of them are forwards. It's like every kid saw Maradona and dreamed of becoming an attacking player wanting to score goals, no attraction for other positions :lol.
I just don't get how there's like several thousands of professional Argentine players around the world and they can't find 2 or 3 good defenders.

Another reason why I think they are doomed. Repeating, and threepeating, seems so hard to do, unless you're prime Kobe and Shaq/7-foot, 330 lb athletic, skilled monster.
In this case, it's back-to-back-to-back...Euro 2008, WC 2010, Euro 2012. If Barca can't repeat (Champion's League), Spain cannot either.

how shit is rosicky or any arsenal players shown so far in the tourney...
quentin_compson
06-08-2012, 06:31 PM
Rosicky is not fit and a shell of his former self anyway. Arshavin had a good game, though. The more central role he plays for Russia suits him better than playing on the wing, which he had to do for Arsenal all the time. (I'm still glad he's gone, though.)
