What makes you so sure he was the one who created it?

It is easier to believe that it was Satan's doing.

Why would God cast the devil out of heaven then make a home for him to reside?

I'm not a religious type or pretend to know alot about the bible but it seems to me it would be counter productive to throw someone out of your kingdom and at the same time making him his own. Thoughts?

IIRRC (if i remember Revelations correctly), hell doesn't even exist right now. Everyone will come back to life and have a second chance. Only at the very end of the universe does the "lake of fire" swallow you up if you're still a non believer. Your average fire and brimstone preacher doesn't want you to think that but then again, he needs to pay his cadillac and kids' private education off.

I think those questions run down the same track.

My answer to both would be that God is a jackass, but I'm open to hearing a logical explanation as to how he's not and why hell is necessary.

It depends on who you ask.

The Jehovah's Witness dont believe in hell. They think that when you die you dont go to hell nor heaven. You just stop existing and only those that follow the Jehovah's witness ways only get to live in paradise happily ever after.

Hell only pops up in the New Testament. Gehenna is referenced in the old, but that is not Hell. Similar to Purgatory more than anything else.

Bad translation imo, but I don't know any church that will criticize it.

You are supposedly given physical proof of god and Jesus' existence during the 1000 years of peace, after the 7 years of trials and tribulations, etc.

It's all bullshit but it's funny how Christians ignore their own fundamental beliefs so they can feel better about their religion.

During his weekly address to the general audience of 8,500 people at the Vatican on July 28, 1999, Pope John Paul II rejected the reality of a physical, literal hell as a place of eternal fire and torment. Rather, the pope said hell is separation, even in this life, from the joyful communion with God. According to an official Vatican transcript of the pope's speech, Pope John Paul II noted that the Scriptural references to hell and the images portrayed by Scripture are only symbolic and figurative of "the complete frustration and emptiness of life without God. " He added, "Rather than a physical place, hell is the state of those who freely and definitively separate themselves from God, the source of all life and joy." He said hell is "a condition resulting from attitudes and actions which people adopt in this life." Concerning the concept of eternal damnation, the pope said, "Damnation consists precisely in definitive separation from God, freely chosen by the human person, and confirmed with death that seals his choice for ever." The pope also added, "The thought of hell and even less the improper use of biblical images must not create anxiety or despair." Rather, he stated, it is a reminder of the freedom found in Christ.

Thou shalt not question God.

That mentality is pathetic, and it's frustrating that so many Americans have a similar point of view religiously and politically and are afraid of considering change that could actually progress this country. This has more to do with the stubborn attitude of not considering, even for a few seconds, something different than it has to due with religion.

ROME (CNS) -- God's mercy and love are great, but those who reject him should know that hell "exists and is eternal," Pope Benedict XVI said.

"The important thing is to understand that "the true enemy is attachment to sin, which can lead us to the failure of our own existence," he said."

"As a theologian, the pope wrote about hell on several occasions. In the 1968 book, "Introduction to Christianity," he described hell as a state of existential abandonment, "the loneliness into which love can no longer reach."

What a fucking idiot ...

So you saw this bit then, right?

Vatican officials said that the Pope — who is also the Bishop of Rome — had been speaking in "straightforward" language "like a parish priest." He had wanted to reinforce the new Catholic catechism, which holds that hell is a "state of eternal separation from God," to be understood "symbolically rather than physically."

I'm just amused by how you end up looking like a bigger retard than the Christians you're trying to outwit or lambast or convert or whatever it is you're trying to do here.

Nope. But apparently you haven't either.

In a homily that he gave on 25 March 2007, Pope Benedict XVI stated: "Jesus came to tell us that he wants us all in heaven and that hell, of which so little is said in our time, exists and is eternal for those who close their hearts to his love."[64][65] Journalist Richard Owen's interpretation of this remark as declaring that hell is an actual place was reported in many media[66]

[66] ^ The Times, 27 March 2007, reported "Hell is a place where sinners really do burn in an everlasting fire, and not just a religious symbol designed to galvanise the faithful, the Pope has said" (The Fires of Hell Are Real and Eternal, Pope Warns). Fox News reproduced the article as published on The Times, under the heading:"Pope: Hell Is a Real Place Where Sinners Burn in Everlasting Fire" (Pope: Hell Is a Real Place Where Sinners Burn in Everlasting Fire). The Australian published Owen's article on its 28 March 2007 issue (Hell is real and eternal: Pope). The Canadian National Post of 28 March 2007, quoting The Times, reported: "Pope Benedict XVI has been reminding the faithful of some key beliefs of their faith, including the fact hell is a place where sinners burn in an everlasting fire" (Hell 'exists and is eternal,' Pope warns). The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette of 3 April 2007, again referring to The Times, reported: "Pope Benedict XVI has reinstated hell as a real place where the heat is always on" (Playing with fire).
