Last week, the Spurs twitter account posted a picture of the Stockton/Malone statues outside the arena in Utah and it got me thinking what has taken the Spurs so long to get a Robinson statue erected at the AT&T Center? They could compliment it with a Duncan one in a few years. The Twin Towers are deserving of this, don't you think? Stockton and Malone never won ANYTHING but each other's company, lol.

I doubt Robinson or Duncan would enjoy having statues erected in their honor.

It also seems very UnSpur like?

Banners>Statues

Although they would appreciate the gesture it just doesn't seem appropriate for the Admiral, the Big Fundamental, and the city of San Antonio.

If they were gonna do a statue, it should be of this: http://cdn.bleacherreport.net/images_root/slides/photos/000/237/684/DuncanRobinson_display_image.jpg?1275402852

However, if you give the Twin Towers a statue, you almost have to give one to Gervin. Spurs wouldn't be around for Dave or Tim if not for the Iceman.

How about this for a statue:

They can't do statues, because we would need a lot of them..

The Spurs should erect a big stonecutter's rock in front of the AT&T center.

If you started putting up statues you'd need a Popovich statue.

This is one team that would need too many statues.

Gervin
Robinson
Elliott (?)
Duncan
Parker
Manu
Bowen (?)

Kinda lame for the Jazz to have statues without having any championships IMHO. Oh well...

This would be the most appropriate. It would be a symbol of the culture and the mentality of all the most significant players. I think it would absolutely be the most fitting. I'll call Pete and see what he thinks.

Larry Brown getting slimed with guac. A proud moment in franchise history and tbh the closest Pop would ever get to letting a statue of him being made might be one of his old pal and mentor.

when Pop retires, they will put a big rock outse ATT and Pop will come in everyday and pound the rock until it looks like TD

Tim Duncan didn't need much molding.

If anything I think the rock caused by Pop would resemble Tony Parker.

Not The Rock... but you know what I mean.

Gervin deserves on and do do the twin towers. Everyone else has or will have their jersey retired and that will be good enough

not much of a statue guy but Hall of Fame bust replicas displayed like the championship trophies are right now would look nice

If they do a stand alone statue of Robinson I think it would be classy to make it of him standing the way he would during the National Anthem: almost at military attention. Would echo the military tradition in SA as well as the consistency with which David played for so many years.

But it think Gervin in action mid-finger roll would be pretty sweet. Do that on one side of the entry plaza and a statue of the image of David and Tim together holding the 2003 hardware on the other side and call it a day.

So many good ideas in this thread. Keep 'em coming! Love the "Pounding The Rock" statue nod, though. Would go to show that the team mantra supersedes the individual achievements.

Word. Instead of building statues, I vote they pick up the att center and move it to a decent side of town.

I think this is a bad idea because, outside of fanatics like us, most people would not understand what it means, so they would ask "Why did they make a pinche sculpture of a big rock? They should have made a statue of Duncan or Robinson instead. Pendejos ..."

MannyIsGod
05-11-2012, 06:08 PM
Probably the fact that DRob is not a giant douche like Malone and would more than likely not want such a statue made.

MannyIsGod

Also, because unlike the Jazz we have four mini statues inside the arena.

This, however, is a fantastic idea. Instead of a statue glorifying one or two players, setting up a monument to the mindset that led this team to greateness over such an extended period of time would be amazing.

Love it.
