It's easy as shit, and has step by step instructions, and there are only about 6 steps. Do it yourself.

This. The 4 and 4S have a mini SIM card that I'm not sure that t-mobile has. You can check on that. If they have it, you'll have to get one from t-mobile and have them assign your number to it, all without revealing that it's for an iPhone. They won't do it if you tell them that's what you have.

Much easier. If you have t-mobile now, your SIM should just go straight over. You also have to do more than Jailbreak it. Jailbreaking it just allows apps from other sources than the app store. You also need to unlock it. Fortunately, a web search should reveal the steps to both of these procedures. It should be relatively easy, since the 3gs is a couple of years old.

Can you suggest any site in particular?I am not the most tech savvy.I pretty much need someone to hold my hand.

Actually, I guess all I'm looking to do is unlock it.I just want it to work with my tmobile service.

Sucks, i don't own an iPhone anymore so haven't kept up. They might not have an unlock ready for iOS 5.0.1 yet.
