In all seriousness, SA has been playing well all season but to expect them to beat the winner of OKC/LAL and Miami????? Not happening

Yeah why did the Spurs bother to play this season at all. They should have stayed home.

I am not Pop. I don't play for the Spurs. I don't have to look at just one game at a time. I never will play basketball outside of shooting hoops with my colored friends at the park.
I am a fan. Which means I get to have long shot dreams and expectations. And I get to make up bullshit excuses if we lose. How else am I supposed to face dealing with my Laker fan boss, Mavs fan co-worker, and bandwagon Heat fan fuck buddy. The chick changes teams like she changes sex partners.
If the Spurs lose, notice I said if, I will come up with every excuse in the book except to admit we were outplayed, or that we are not as good as we appear.
Sincerely,
Slutter McGee

Being a gnsf, I am compelled to post these answers. Union contract and such, you know.
If healthy: Pop
If injured: Injuries, then Pop
Edit: I forgot Bonner, lack of Splitter/Duncan combo, and refs. The above answers are still at the top of the list, though.

Stern obviously didn't want a small market team resulting in declining NBA finals ratings.

Refs, you got Clippers, Lakers and OKC as matchups/possible matchups
What other go-to excuse is there?

It'll have something to do with Splitter, which is dumb because he's a bucket of shit.

In general:
"We were never TRUE contenders"
"We simply too old, time for other teams, younger teams, to take over"
If beaten by the Clippers:
"Fucking floppers"
"Griffin+CP3 is too much for any team, not just us"
If beaten by the Thunder:
"They too good, they are the future"
"I'm sad, but the Thunder are ok'ish"
"We got further than the Lakers at least"
If beaten by the Lakers:
"Kobe vs Lebron... of course it happened. Stern is salivating"
"Pff, fucking refs"
Ok, I'm ready!

If a given team is good enough to beat the Spurs 4 times without home court advantage, I'm interested in knowing what your answer would be, ElNono.

I think OKC could be that team.
When and if it happens, I'll tip my hat, and give props to the better team.
tbh, barring MAJOR injuries (the kind that prevent a player from playing at all), the best team normally win a 7 games series.
