MannyIsGod
05-17-2012, 09:23 PM
When Splitter is in the PnR, he should flash to the hole. This whole thing of going to the whole top of the lane shit is good for people who can make jumpers, like Duncan. With Tiago its just stupid.

The rotation will have to be shortened or we're gambling with our chances.
Well clearly the Spurs bench has met a bench that is as good or better than they are, which means that our first team is going to have to stay in quite a bit.
Gonna make the back-to-back a challenge.
$pursDynasty
05-17-2012, 09:25 PM
The bench has been exposed badly.
maybe we should try a different substitution pattern in this series; maybe move Blair and Patty up the rotation and Splitter down it. This isn't the Grizz or Lakers where Blair is such a liability, he might be a better 'big' option against the Clips. there isn't a mismatch against Kenyon.

very sloppy play started by ref help after the non call on the manu three
One funny little thing I've noticed is the irrational confidence Griffin has with Bonner on him instead of Diaw, Duncan or Splitter.
He bricks every jumper but then with Bonner guarding him, just lobs up a nice Timmy banker from 15, money in the bank :lol

Main difference between game 1 and 2 is that the 3s were falling in game 1. They kept us up throughout the game. When the 3 ball isn't falling, we look average. Manu rarely drives or shoots mid range, 75% of his offense is chucking 3s.
Parker and Duncan need to have very solid games for the Spurs to win tonight.

What sets this Spurs' team's 3-point shooting apart from that of previous ones is the sheer number of shooters they have. Back then, if one person got cold, usually the whole team would catch it, and it would be a case of "living and dying by the 3" with heavy emphasis on the latter
Not this season. There are just so many options getting so many good looks that we can live with an off-night from some players because there will always be others to pick up thr slack.

Them Clips are scrappy bunch.
The Spurs need to adjust to the Clippers extended there defense on the catch and throw of any pass. They are pressuring the passer and then closing out hard on the catch of the next player and the Spurs plays are being broken up because of it.
A couple of ball fakes, some back door cuts, misdirection plays and hard screens will render that useless. I'm sure Pop will recognise this.

Tiago needs to step the fuck up and act like he has touched a basketball a couple of times in his life. Fucked up all momentum, imo.
Timmy needs to get more touches in the post or pnr. He need the ball and often.
Threes should start falling.

Clips are 5-8 from 3. Double the FTs of the Spurs. SA shooting 30% from downtown, and we're up 4. Wow.
More Diaw, Duncan and Jackson please.
Less Manu 3's, Parker jumpshots and Bonner defense.

Hey, soebody remember Pop that that boy with the number 20 on his back is pretty good. He didn't get a single play called for him in his second stretch in the floor.
When he played the point he turned into Chuckobili, also missed a lay up on a play for him.

Going into half time:
- Neal has been reduced to a liability. He needs to play the same role Green does on offense and try his best to do the same on defense.
- Splitter is still playing poorly.
- Front court in general needs to step it up. If Bonner plays in the 2nd half then he needs to continue to shoot with confidence.
- Clippers forcing us to iso and that really hurt our offense.

Biggest factor in that 2nd quarter was the Clippers shooting and how it affected the pace. All in all, they played very well in the 2nd quarter and they are still down at half. I'm not worried. I expect Pop to make better adjustments at the half than Vinny.

LOL counting on Neal for any defense just means he shouldn't play. And considering the opponents, maybe he shouldn't.

Manu's analysis is spot-on :tu
But Manu contributed to that big lead evaporation by jacking many needless 3s and that influences the rest of the team to make similar decisions. When you have a comfortable 1st half lead in 8-15 points or so, there is no need to continue jacking 3s with a lot of time left on the clock. You should continue to move the ball, waste more time, find better shots. Try to preserve the lead.
Every now and then when Manu quarterbacks the offense with a few other bench players he falls in the trap of playing desperate offense when the team needs the exact opposite.

Did you pick that avatar or did mookie2001?
i did tbh. mookie's not creative enough.
Look, at the half Tony has 8 points, three assists, three rebounds, three steals, and has been aggressive. He is fine. Tim is fine. Manu is Manu. Diaw is awesome against Griffin.
We will be okay but we must have come to the conclusion that LA 's benches better than our bench and we have to play our first team more. Isn't this why we game them so much time off during the season?

Pop is the reason we lost the lead in the first place, got cocky, leash was way too long on the bench. TP and Tim are +13, the bench is getting owned since the first minute they got in this series, Pop didn't make any ajustements so far. The starters can play heavy minutes, they rested for a long time. Not like we have a choice.
Btw can someone confirm that Diaw took the fool on Jordan? Worst mistake so far if true.

Not feeling too confident because game basically tied and CP3 has played HORRIBLE. If he even plays average in the second half and the Spurs don't pick it up, things can get dicey.
Get back to ball and player movement. Keep the ball pressure but pay more attention to the shooters. Get the intensity back.
Believe.
Mills in the playoffs would be more of a try in the first half and see how responds kind of player. I'm not sure chucking him out there towards the end of the 3rd quarter in an important playoff game is the wisest move.

I had to do a quick check on that one. I think Mills would at least get a good shot up. All those possessions with turnovers, or recovered deflections leading to a brick at the buzzer sort of killed us. So I dunno... maybe I would rather have Mills in there. Better a possession with a chance of scoring, than those throw-aways.

The Clippers are playing hard and I take my hat off to them. They're game
Too many perimeter shots, too many outside the rhythm of the offense. If they get back to ball movement and flashing to spots without the ball they'll get in rhythm looks and start knocking them down. Need to attack the rim more as well.

When he played the point he turned into Chuckobili, also missed a lay up on a play for him.
He rushed a three on a 2 for 1 situation, then he missed an open three, and step-back three with the clock running down. Not a whole lot of chucking there.
And the layup he missed wasn't a called play, he just took it to the rim 'cause he saw an opening, it was a good shot, he just missed it.
Manu is playing well, if he would have goten a bit more touches at the end of the second we would be up by a bigger margin by now.

Spurs need to be careful here. CP3 has been subpar and he's a fourth quarter player. If he picks it up, things can get Antonio McDicey for the Spurs in the second half. Spurs need to get back to the precise ball movement they are known for, but also mind the Clippers' shooters. Have confidence.
