View Full Version : The way these playoffs are going it's going to be an asterisk title.

At the start of these playoffs it looked like it was going to be great, rose and the bulls were on the road to the ECF and so where the heat with thier big 3 was going to challange them. Then in the west nobody knew what would happen, there's always a chance the spurs lose any series, the thunder might play the lakers or the nuggs. There was a legitamite 8 teams that could make the finals.

Now? There's about 2 real contenders, the spurs and the thunder.Rose got hurt, bosh got hurt, the clips saved the spurs, the thunder, the lakers never had time to prep, Boston has to play the 76ers, and the heat are about to lose to the pacers. The way it looks the WCF will be the best playoff series.

These teams have obviously been watered down, if we had the normal schedual everything would be a lot different so I think this should be an asterisk title. Even if the spurs win because honestly they're probably going to play just 1 real contender.

then might as well call every title asterisk title. How many contenders did the 3peat lakers beat??

most titles there are only 2-3 contenders and most times each one faces 1 or none.

Good point OP. All the teams played the same amount of games with the same amount of preparation. But hey, whatever makes the teams sleep at night.

THANK YOU. The whole asterisk crap is so annoying. Practically every year the league champ can qualify for an asterisk title. Life happens in the playoffs, best players get hurt or miss last second shots that cause a team that isnt considered a contender to win. Stand up and have some pride for your team that has a great shot at a championship.

I think the spurs will play a very formidable opponent should they make the finals. Boston or indiana would make a great series, and so would the heat because you cant count them out.

Exactly.

If this year is an asterisk title due to injuries, then every year the Spurs weren't 100% are asterisk titles for the teams that didn't have to face a healthy Spurs.

Needless to say Pop is an amazing coach navigating through this landline of injurys this season. I'd be overjoyed if the spurs won but a fact is a fact, the talent pool left in the playoffs is really low.

Everyone who thought it wasn't going to be an asterisk title even before the season was deluding themselves. I'll still take it, however; two more asterisk titles than any other team has!

Blake Griffin - sprained knee

No excuses though, we still got this.

Asterisk titles are a myth.

Does anyone know what makes winning a title or any meaningful award an asterisk?

You still have to work hard to be in a position to win anything.

For example, take a car race, if you are running second and the first car runs out of fuel or has some sort of mechanical problems, does that mean the second place car gets an asterisk next to his win collum? If that was the case then I'm afraid most of their wins would be asterisk wins.

Injuries, circustances are all part of the equation. Get the fuck out of here with that excuse.

There are no excuses in sports.

This season had an asterisk at the very beginning. Won't change the size of the title in the trophy case.

I guess we need to also asterisk the titles of the Cowboys, Steelers, Packers, and Dolphins of the 60s and 70s because they only played 14 game seasons.
Like to see someone tell Mean Joe Green he's an asterisk, even today.

The 2004 NBA championship should get an asterick because the clock started late on Fisher's shot. The 2006 NBA championship should get an asterick, Dirk's foul on Duncan was not called. The 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 championships should get an asterick because the Spurs weren't healthy.

Excluding the Spurs and Thunder, the offense has been a disaster and fuckin pathetic. The shooting percentages and points per game averages are low and just flat out bad. I know that the offense is usually bad in shortened seasons but the offense is shitty. Just look at the scores of these games at halftime. Some teams not even scoring 40 points after two quarters.

mavsfan1000

Another asterisk. Just like 99. 2 false seasons that don't count.

Not to mention all the injuries..Manu was out, Tim was hurting. We could have given a LOT of people asterisk titles over the last 13 or so years.

OP stating the obvious. Although I might give Miami the credit it deserves if they win it... cause odds are even if the season was 82 they would win anyway. But Boston, OKC, Indiana, and sa??? Nah...they winning it all would be a direct result of this flukey azz season.

41, are you still going with the "fluke" idea if somehow Boston miracles its way into a series win over Miami? What about if Miami moves on and OKC/Spurs beat them?
