You might not know Jimmy Goldstein by name but you'll know him if you see him. He's this guy:

Anyways, check out what he said in GQ:

"I have a terrific relationship with the entire Spurs organization. Peter Holt on down to everyone who works for the team to the players to the people in San Antonio. I've been going there for many years. In San Antonio, they set up a special seat for me whenever I go to the games there that doesn't exist the rest of the season.

Certain players I'm closer to than others. Tony Parker and I have been good friends. We run into each other in France and we always have a little chat before the games. He opened a nightclub in San Antonio now that he wants to take me to after the games, that kind of thing.

I have friends on every team and every team thinks I'm there to root for them. I try to put on a neutral stance as much as possible when I go to the games, with the exception of the Lakers games. The Lakers players are all aware that I root for the other team. With the exception of Kobe, they seem to take it pretty well.

Every now and then Kobe surprises me by walking up to me shaking hands and giving me a nice smile. But for the most part, he ignores me. He doesn't look at me and even went to the extent of telling Pau Gasol not to say hello to me. He's never explained why.

Pau and I were very good friends before he got traded to the Lakers. After he became a Laker, he's standing at the baseline during the Lakers warm ups and he would never say hello. Finally, during the All Star Weekend a couple years ago, when I ran into him and he wasn't putting on his 'Laker face' so to speak, he gave me a big hug and apologized for not being friendly to me at the games, but told me that it was because Kobe asked him not to be friendly to me."

So not only does he travel around to different arenas to watch the best basketball games, he's close to Tony Parker and the Spurs ... and he goes to Lakers games for the sole purpose of rooting against the Lakers.

Jimmy Goldstein takes FTL to heart.

I've always thought Jim Goldstein looked like Tom Petty after about 6 decades of speed.

When I had Clippers season tickets he was there every night. (He likes the Clips, hates the Lakers -- although he has Lakers season tickets, too).

I talked with him a while at LAX because we were taking the same Southwest flight to SA for Game 1 of the '07 Finals. He said his favorite team was Phoenix at the time.

He even wore one of those funky leather hats on the plane. :)

From wiki:

Goldstein refuses to disclose how he made his fortune or his net worth, although the Wall Street Journal speculated that Goldstein made billions in real estate (notably Century City in Los Angeles).[4] When asked, he typically responds, "Let’s just say I had some investments that worked out pretty well." "I try not to think about the cost," he said. "It's worth it to me."

However, I prefer to imagine him like Tony Montana except he got out of the game before shit hit the fan.

I just don't get it. How does this guy have such a great relationship with so many players? I know he's rich but there are a lot of rich yuppies on the sidelines of games. I guess that is the difference between billionaires and millionaires.

I think that being a free spirited guy along with being hardcore fan of the game is what allows players to form relationships with him. Most of these rich guys at these games just want to be seen but don't really give a shit of the game while Goldstein is a true hoops junkie. Also it helps that he's single and likes to fool around with a bunch of hot women. I don't think you will find many rich guys who have a combination of both of all of those things I have listed.

This. Dude likely pulls tail that players can only dream of. Compared to his wealth, most players are middle class earners.

I love that he can't stand the Lakers. :lol

mad props for this guy. if I had his money, I'd try to do the same by going to tons of games with front court seats. I didn't know he was anti-Lakers, that makes him even more of a badass, especially since he lives in LA.

Jimmy on Colin Cowherd this morning talked about Ray Allen's shot in Game Six.

If you watch the video, Goldstein was right behind Allen when he hit the shot.

Turns out Jimmy is a spurs fan (at least for that game).

Here is what Goldstein said verbatim about that shot:

Well that was probably in my mind the biggest shot in NBA history. Because the NBA World Championship Trophy had already been rolled out to be given to the Spurs. And Ray Allen made a shot that snatched the championship away from the Spurs. I was sitting right there pulling for the Spurs and it was a very heartbreaking moment for me. But I'm also friendly with Ray Allen and afterwards I kiddingly told him, "You know, Ray, I could've blocked that shot."

If only . . . :toast
