View Full Version : No such thing as an ugly playoff win

I know I've become spoiled when that felt like an ugly win even though the Spurs shot 53% from the field. For a normal team, that would have been a gritty, gutty playoff victory. For these Spurs, I'm stuck thinking of ways how this could have been another blowout.

:lol @ timvp for not immediately being happy with a playoff win

Not happy with a win unless it's 10 points or more.

This was the perfect game to test the spurs. Closeout. Dogfight. Win.

We're definitely tested now. Coming back from a large deficit and winning a close game.

Rest up, boys! And be ready for OKC. Or Lakers.

Agreed, Timvp...Matter of fact, the wins people call "ugly" are how we won a lot of our titles. I LOVE "ugly" wins.

Heh... people complaining that the Spurs aren't being challenged, and then complaining when they are challenged. By the time you get to the second round, the other team is going to be pretty damned good - especially in the Western conference. This is what a close-out game on the road is supposed to look like. And that was how a championship team deals with it.

A 65-64 win with tons of turnovers and missed FTs is still prettier than a 140-139 triple overtime loss with no turnovers and missed FTs.

Ok, ok, fair point. I have to chuckle at myself as well then. You are absolutely right, LJ.

I love the double digit blowouts as much as the next guy...but I was definitely into this game more than the last few. Good grind it out wins are always fun to watch.

I have no nails left, so I can't totally agree. I'd amend your statement to say that good grind it out wins are fun to watch in retrospect.

One of my all time favorite games is 2005 Finals Game 5 - but not as I was watching it. I had to leave the room more than once because I couldn't stand it.

Once that relief sets in and the knowledge they won settles in, then it's fun or memorable.

they didn't have a turnover in the 2nd half until the cp3 turnover with 10 seconds left. That's a perfect game for them we're supposed to lose, and we won. Love it.

Alright, I'll stand corrected on that. :lol I was pacing the room left and right, cursing at almost every play.

Other than the amount of stupid turnovers this was a great win. This game was a lot more physical than the last 3 and the refs were letting guys play. Spurs battled and pulled out a close win by playing defense. Great game.

I'm so happy we won.

But we were sloppy and didn't have to be.

Can't afford to carry those over into the next round.

Give them some slack. They won a back-to-back away games against a Clippers team that was desperate for a win.

I am enjoying the moment, but sweated out the game a bit, because of erratic play from Manu and Tony and Tiago

Thank the good lord for Tim Duncan

Even though it was nerve wrecking as hell, it was great to see the guys get it done in a close game under pressure. We're back in the Western Conference Finals after 4 years! Amazing! :tu

This was the first ever playoff b2b for any of the players and game 3 took so much energy and minutes to pull out. The team was fatigued by the 4th quarter but fought through that to win. That was impressive and showed a ton of will power.

Closeout game, on a B2B, on the road, at Staples, with Joey Crawford reffing...and we still won! :lol

Perfect closeout game.

Pop can not have something to gripe about for the next 5 days.

The players will take something positive from this close win.

Had SA had another blowout, it could have led to some big heads.....now I know the Spurs take one game at a time...blah, blah blah....but they are human first and foremost.

I love it

We are so accustomed to the Spurs playing nearly flawless basketball that the times that they have played sloppy we get frustrated and upset. :lol
