Per-minute, that's one of the best series Tim Duncan has ever had. Hell, ignoring minutes, those numbers are still disgustingly good.
It's easy to forget just how great Tim Duncan is at playing basketball.

So in a series where Parker and Paul "neutralized" each other, Duncan outplayed the Clipper's big men to win the series. Time to re-energize, prepare for more challenging opponents (OKC, MIA) ahead.

I'm glad to say that I was wrong when I used to predict that Timmy would retire in after the end of the 2012 season since he seemed in terminal decline, especially last season. This year he's been a revelation, turned the clock back 3 years, and I'm glad that he'll remain the lynchpin of this team for at least another couple of seasons.

good post.
If you combine the NBA efficiency stat per 48 minutes with +/- per minute stat, Tim has been the best NBA player while on the court since the beginning of February.

He's best of the best. It's great to see he's still such a competitor at this age. However clippers do not have a good post defender like Tyson Chandler. Kenyon Martin makes Duncan look 5 years younger. Blake Griffin lacks experience. DeAndre only knows how to dunk. :lol

I think that's evidence Duncan is playing better than he has in the past few years. At the beginning of the season I wasn't sure how much he had left but he has really turned back the clock.

This made me think immediately of the Clippers fan who claimed that Duncan couldn't possibly put up Blake-like numbers anymore:
you need to live in reality. Griffin is a second year player who put up 21, 11 and 3 this season with 54 percent shooting. Duncan hasn't been at that level statistically for what 3 seasons now? Duncan is more refined but he's absolutely not the better player.
http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5878320&postcount=13
and disputed that there was any validity to the notion that Duncan's per-36 numbers might suggest that Timmy remains statistically on par (at least) with Griffin:
Projected stats don't work for a 36 year old player. Duncan is playing little minutes because he CAN'T play 38 minutes a game anymore. Projecting the same production he gives now over 36 or 48 minutes isn't accurate. Duncan is the better defender and smarter player, that's about it. Griffin is passing more, scoring better and rebounding more.
I have no problem saying Duncan is still a star or borderline star but to say he's BETTER than Griffin at this point is denial.

To show the Clippers bigmen were far from a pushover, look what they did to Memphis' bigs:
Marc Gasol - 2012 NBA All-Star center
37.3 minutes
15.1 points
6.7 rebounds
Zach Randolph
35.4 minutes
13.7 points
9.9 rebounds
42% from the field
Duncan destroyed a Clippers frontline that neutered one of the best bigman duos the previous round. Impressive, IMO.

He's been the Spurs best player in the playoffs and easily a top five player in the playoffs overall. I know he doesn't like to speak to the media, but I'm not sure why he's had one podium appearance in the playoffs. To nitpick, his rebounding hasn't been up to his usual lofty standards in the playoffs. But it'll probably all even out in short order.
