that's flat out stupid. 6 days between games for the Spurs, yet we had to play a back to back.

i would rather start Wednesday and get two extra rest days in there.

Agreed. Should start it considerably earlier and have at least 2 days rest between games 2 and 3 and 4 and 5. smh.

So. game 1 (1day) game 2 (2days) game 3 (1day) game 4 (2days) game 5 (2days) game 6 (1 day) game 7

Exactly. The NBA's scheduling these playoffs has been awful. It's pathetic they can't space the games out more at this level. Stern.. smh

Both days off between series (6) and the every-other-day bullcrap.

What a bunch of whiners. This is the exact same schedule the NBA ran with last year at this point. They had it so the East and West alternated.

ECF will be Saturday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday.

Or start Monday, and go Wednesday, Friday, Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday.

Agreed. I actually like them keeping at a day in between each game. I think it will help keep the team in rhythm.

They're gonna have 6 days off.

One day off in between games when travel is what, an hour flight? Please.

timvp
05-21-2012, 11:59 PM
Without at least one extra day of rest thrown in there, the Thunder probably gain a slight advantage as the series advances. That said, if the Spurs can have a strong start to the series, the lack of time for the Thunder to adjust could work in their favor.

Better recharge those batteries to 100% before Sunday though.

The start of the conference finals is already fairly set so that they are not going to start the West early just because both teams are done. The East has a ways to go- at least until Thursday or possibly Saturday.

There is a bad misconception that our team is so old and brittle that we cant handle a week of games. idk

I think the schedule is OK, but yeah an extra day of rest between a possible Game 5 and 6 or Game 6 and 7 would've been better, but oh well....

Well, the Spurs still do get a week of rest. And San Antonio and Oklahoma City aren't that far apart in traveling distance.

Schedule is fine, I like the regularity of having exactly 48 hours of rest between all the games. There's no 3-day rest BS to take a team off its rhythm or allow a lightly injured player to come back, nor stuipd b2bs.

As far as the series scheduling goes, this is pretty much the way things always are -- the conference finals are staggered on alternating days.

Last year, the Mavs and Thunder played on May 17, 19, 21, 23, 25.

In 2010, when the Lakers and Suns both swept their conference semifinals, the West finals started a week after the Lakers finished their sweep; the league did build in a break between Games 2 and 3. Then again, Game 2 was on May 19 and game 3 was on May 23.

In 2009, the conference finals were staggered just like this schedule will play out. The Lakers and Nuggets played on May 19, 21, 23, 25, 27, and 29; the Cavs and Magic played on May 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, and 30.

In 2008, the conference finals were staggered like this. The Celtics and Pistons played on May 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, and 30; the Spurs and Lakers played on May 21, 23, 25, 27, and 29.

The Celtics/Sixers series going to 7 is a good news for Spurs and Thunder. WCF will be ahead of ECF by one day. This edge is even better with both Spurs and Thunder having HCA over the remaining teams in the east which means they will start the final at home.

Because that would benefit the team the NBA doesn't want winning the series? Just a guess.

In addition to that, I believe this almost all but locks up a Finals schedule of...

Game 1 - June 12 (SA or OKC)
Game 2 - June 14 (SA or OKC)
Game 3 - June 17 (East winner)
Game 4 - June 19 (East winner)
Game 5 - June 21 (East winner)
Game 6 - June 24 (SA or OKC)
Game 7 - June 26 (SA or OKC)

The schedule is fine as far as the days between games. I just need this thing to start already! I'm having serious withdrawals. On top of everything else, my wife deleted the Spurs/Clips game 3 from the DVR so she could record Dancing with the Stars!!!

The locations are definitely correct. There's still a chance, if both conference finals end early-ish, the Finals could still be pushed up to June 10.

For instance, if both conference finals are wrapped up after 5 games somehow, the third round will be over on June 5 and a June 10 start would seem likely.

You're exactly right - that's the only way it moves up to June 10th is both series have to wrap up in 5 or less. Possible... sure. Likely... not so much. Should the Spurs advance, it would have been cool to go to a Finals game on Fathers Day, but no matter how the schedule falls, that won't happen as the game on the 17th is on the road no matter what (either Game 3 or 4).

I like how the NHL went to a Wed/Sat/Mon format to avoid overlap with the NBA finals in case the finals were to overlap this year. Don't know if it's good or bad (guess it's bad) for the NHL finals to overlap with the NBA conference finals as they'll be competing against basketball for most of it - well at least the first 4 games.
