Said with Bonner that will force Ibaka and OKC bigs to not camp out in the pain. Good point!

Haven't we seen this over and over again? Bonner = playoff doom.

Spurs will have to step it up across the board, it's the playoffs after all. I think we're more than capable to win the series without magical-thinking driven fantasies of Bonner playing well.

I'm not sure if people in Texas don't know sarcasm (granted internet sarcasm can be hard to read) or if they have a different type of sense of humor that I just don't get. I wasn't being serious. I laughed when I heard Barkley say that. Bonner is a playoff no-show and has been his entire career. Now if he said Diaw, I probably would've agreed.

Bonner will get 10-15 minutes. If he can make some shots that will help.

Barkley just doesn't know that Bonner is infected with the PDD virus: PLAYOFF DEFICIENCY DISORDER. I hope Blair plays more minutes than him in the WCF and Bonner is just there to be a body, mostly get the gatorade ready to pass out, and recommend good sandwiches to the team when they hit OKC. I don't want him anywhere near important minutes in this series.

Playoff shrinkage aside, I actually wouldn't mind throwing Bonner out for a few minutes against Perkins/Ibaka for a couple of reasons:

1) Neither OKC big is any real offensive post threat;
2) Neither OKC big is that comfortable leaving the lane on defense. Either that means Bonner will find opportunities to be open, or the Thunder's defensive rotations will mean somebody else will be.

I hope Diaw works on his three point range (he has the ability, just not that consistently) then we can just can bon-bon.

The Spurs will want to keep Ibaka out of the paint because he's an excellent shot blocker.

My thoughts too. And as spursfan4ever said to start off, he might be good to drag OKC post defenders out of the paint, especially ibaka as he is a shotblocking menace. Get him out of the paint and it makes Tim Tony Manu and all our slashers game a lot easier finishing in the paint. Neitther of Oklahoma's big's are major threats to score so Bonner won't be a massive defensive liability.

So yeah, i think The Red Rocket has the potential to be a real factor in this series. We'll see how we go. If he's playing like shit then Diaw will have his game face on.

We'll see what happens, only time will tell. Why are Spurs fans in here such assholes? From the very first reply from Fpoonsie to idiots like elnono and NAspurs repeating his post and laughing and flashzo talking shit.

Chuck has a good point. A big series from either or both of Diaw or Bonner will be fantastic help. Whichever one has his game face on and ballin at the time should be in the game and i'll be cheering on each and everyone of our Spurs. Good luck to everyone of our Spurs 1 through 12 cause we'll need fantastic performances from all of them.

Stop being such negative little know it all bitches everyone in here geez

I wish we still had Steve Novak on the team. How great would it be to have Bonner and Novak on the floor at the same time going against the bad-asses that are Perkins and Ibaka? I can just imagine Novak hitting a three, doing his lame Aaron Rodgers impersonation and Bonner following him down the court doing his patented stiff white-guy run. All while Ibaka and Perkins give the double stink-eye.

RC, please bring Novak back. Thanks!

What's with all this "Bonner will pull Ibaka out of the paint" nonsense? Bonner is much more likely to be going up against Collison and Mohammed from OKC's 2nd unit and likely won't even see but a few scant minutes against Ibaka and Perkins.

Barkley is just dumb.

Now otoh I could defenitely see Diaw having a big series here since he'll likely find open shots along the perimeter.

Diaw has already had some really nice games in the playoffs, but it wouldn't surprise if there was one this series that became forevermore "The Boris Diaw Game."

By contrast, if he comes up RJ in this series, I think we lose.

05-22-2012, 02:09 PM
If the Spurs play Bonner, doesn't OKC just go small then and put Durant at the 4? Then either Kawhi or Jackson will slide to 4 and guard him. Those guys aren't as good of 3 point shooters as Bonner (though maybe better in the playoffs) but putting another wing on the floor for SA certainly opens the paint up. Then again it would allow OKC to play Harden and Sefolosha at the same time.....

This series is going to be very, very interesting.

Agree.

Diaw being able to make perimeter shots will be a huge factor and concern for Perkins/Ibaka.

But I also think Splitter will be key as well. The thunder starting bigs are going to be tough on Timmy, even as rejuvenated as he is. Tiago needs to be a dominant force in the paint in that 2nd unit to act as the equalizer.

He might go back to being the king of +/- in this series, tbh. Removing Ibaka or Collison from the paint while the Spurs run their offense is a huge advantage.

I think Pop probably has either Diaw or Bonner in the game the entire time Ibaka or Collison are in.

Blair has kind of done well against OKC. I see Splitter being able to fill that role.
