Let's examined through the years on whether Spurs were true contenders and pretenders.

1998-Duncan a rookie.Del Negro is starting SG.Luck_The_Fakers_Luck_The_Fakers_Luck_The_Fakers _Luck_The_Fakers_Luck_The_Fakers_Luck_The_Fakers_ out for playoffs-Pretenders
1999-Win championship-Duncan best player in Nba-
2000-Duncan injures knee.misses playoffs.Blazers and Lakers were better teams anyway-Pretenders
2001-Lakers were simply too good.Healthy Anderson would not have made a dent-Pretenders.
2002-Least talented Spurs team in Duncan era.Kings and Lakers were clearly better teams-Pretenders.
2003-Spurs win championship.
2004-This team should of won the West, but I don't think they beat Pistons.Relying on Hedo and Rasho.Barely beat them in 05 with much better team-Pretenders
2005-Spurs win championship
2006-This team blew it.Pop lost his mind with the start of small ball-Contender choked
2007-Spurs win championship
2008-Team aged 5 years over night.Manu injured ankle vs Suns.Lakers and Celtics were simply better-Pretenders
2009-No Manu.Starting playoff lineup of Parker-RMJ-Finley-Bonner-one legged Duncan-Pretender
2010-Swept by Suns.Nuff said-Pretenders
2011-Beat by Memphis in round one.Relying on Old Dice,Dick J and Bonner too much.I was never sold last year-Pretender

2012 Spurs-This team is a contender. It's up to Pop,Duncan and co to bring it home. It'll be tough, but good enough to get the job done.

Spurs were only true contenders 5 of 14 years in duncan era,not counting this year. They blew it in 2006.That team despite it's flaws were good enough to win the title.A 3-peat would of had a nice ring to it.

Spurs won 4 of 5 years they were contenders -99 03 05 07-not 06
Duncan Pops Spurs clutch factor- 80%
Will that rise in 2012?

2000 we wouldve had a chance....lakers were still weak that season being force by the kings and blazers through 7 games series

So to sum up:

So losing = pretending, unless it's this season (oooooh, I know! Because we aren't losing, right?).

Better read it again to make sure I got the math right.
