View Full Version : Why do some NBA players lie about their height?

I mean, I understand shorter players listing themselves to be a little bit taller than their actual height. However, I can't understand some seven-footers deducting a couple of inches from their actual height to make them a little shorter.

For example, Bill Walton was reportedly 7'2 but he "didn't like" being a seven-footer so his listed height is 6'11. KG is another seven-footer who desperately wants to be a few inches shorter. Does anyone in here believe that he's "only" 6'11? Lastly, Jabbar's listed height is 7'2 but he's actually a lot closer to 7'4.

So what do you think?

I don't know why they do it. But to me i think it's really annoying. Why can't they just list that shit accurately and honestly

Kevin Garnett was measured 6'11 without shoes pre-draft
Chris Paul was measured 5'11.75 without shoes pre-draft

KG was also 18 at the time. Men can grow until the age of 25. Not all do, but ti wouldn't be unheard of for him to actually be 7'1". When you look at the players around Tony Parker during a dead ball or a timeout, there is no way he's only 6'2", but again, he was measured pre-draft at the age of 19.

KG didn't want to play center so he listed himself shorter tbh

Like Duncan however he moved to center as he got older

List seems pretty accurate imo, says Amare measured at 6'8.5" which makes sense. There's no way he's actually the 6'10" he's listed at.

players change their heights to justify the positions they play imho e.g. the standard height for a PF is 6'11 so most of them list their heights at 6'11 when they're in fact taller (TOSB duncan)

Since Duncan is the GOAT PF, I'd say his height is the prototype rather than the exception

Generally, players are listed at their measured height with shoes on, I believe...

It's obvious he's 7 foot anyways have you seen him just tower over Dwight Howard & even recently Deandre Jordan.

And I mean come on his offensive game is really that of a center as is his defensive game also his height isn't prototype as most PF's are 6'9 historically & presently.

Fuck I read a quote somewhere Pop laughed when somebody asked him who is the starting center & he said Tim who else, or something similar to that.

KG being a pussy about his height makes sense as he doesn't have the strength or game to be a full time center.

Yeah, but if you see him in person 6'2 seems like a very accurate height for Parker.

:lol If Timmy's the GOAT PF, there's no way he wouldn't be the prototype.

Positional GOATs should always be the prototype for their position.

Well he's not a PF which was my point.

I don't think 6'11" is the average PF height. Average PF height seems to be about 6'9 1/2" to 6'10".

Some taller players like to downplay their height so nobody will say, "well he's good because he's taller than just about everyone else at his position". KG for example, never wanted to be associated as a center because, for example, the all time best center list is loaded with amazing players, whereas the all time best PF list is pretty meager.

But mostly, if you have a guy like Durant who's nearly a 7 footer, yet most other SFs are like 6'6-'6'8", it's like dude. . .he can just shoot over everyone, that's why he's so good at scoring on good defense. These players don't like hearing that. They want to say they're short and it's just skills, not their natural height and arm length advantage. Durant would be noticabley worse if he was just 6'6". He could not take and make a good portion of the shots he does.

I got a question for you guys..so is Lebron James only 6'6 or 6'7, or is Kevin Durant 6'10 or 6'11? Clearly that is not the difference between "6'8" and "6'9" :lol

I think Durant is a legit 6'11" guy, while Bron is also legit 6'8" guy, both with shoes.

One thing i notice on that pic, Durant seems quite confident with his, ehhmm, mamba, while Bron has to cover his short with a towel, is there something more serious about this pic, kool-aid way of thought ?? Is Bron short flatlined, not much of bulk on it ?? :lol

And then Walton shrinks with age:

Shaq's one big MF'er, perhaps 7'3" with shoes, eh ?? :wow

If Kobe's 6'7" and Pau's 7'0", Drew must be a 7'1"-7'2" guy, right ?

Yeah, i guess you're right. Though judging from this pic, Pau is really a tall dude, even Dirk must agree to that:

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg34/NBA7902/NBA%20Height%20Comparison/1455314.jpg

Dirk stood a bit further behind, but if the German assasin is a legit 7 footer, then Pau is clearly a shade over that. And the wingspan/arm length, LOL, Pau is looong, while Dirk is perhaps average.

LOL, don't have to ask since i'm as straight as a flag pole, but the pic is quite revealing, you know ? :lol

dirk and duncan are like 6'10.5 i think, pau is 7'0 and bynum is 7'1 best i can tell. i thought about this once a while back and that's what i came up with. most "7 footers" in the nba are 6'9 or 6'10 so dirk and duncan are in fact pretty tall. there are very few "legit" 7 footers barefoot. with shoes then yeah pau is over 7ft.

actually, spur fan would get mad at this but i think duncan is actually 6'9, 6'10.5 in shoes rounded to 6'11. they're both half a head shorter than 7'1 legit shaq.

I haven't seen many, if not any, people that have that type of design, tbh..

It appears that he made it a priority to avoid any ink on his arms or shoulders, tbh..it looks absolutely hideous..the only reason for a young, heavily tatooed basketball player to avoid sleeves would be to maintain an image IMO..

Then again, here's a light-skinned NBA player's tat..if only he was darker:lol..

Naah, as long they can play, the height doesn't concern me at all. If Blair can play better, his lack of height will never come into discussion.

One thing for sure, i'm glad that good guys like Timmy and Dirk can win their ring(s) without having to dick ride other alpha guy like Garnett did, rightfully playing as the no. 1 option. :hat

KG's only manning center because the Celtics have an extreme lack of depth at that position. Chris Wilcox was supposed to man the middle, but he started hanging around Jeff Green too much.
