Memorial Day recognizes soldiers who died in wars.

RIP

Ah OK, I'm down with that, all soldiers who died in or previous to Vietnam.

I think memorial day should be more about remembering all the innocent iraqi citizens and children who have died than it should be remembering their murderers. It creates a moral dilemma too, because who's to say that these people aren't murderers just because government told them to kill for no good reason? Charles Manson also convinced other people to kill but he's in jail. Is a soldier any different than a hired hitman who we pay to assassinate people for political reasons? Does that make it okay? Still a murder imo. I'd be ashamed if I served in this thing.

My grandfather, who fought in WWII, turns 90 this year. He was pilot stationed in Bari, Italy and in late March of 1944 his P-38 Lightning was intercepted and shot down by Messerschmitt 109 fighters while was he was on a solo weather recon mission to Verona. He bailed out of the plane over Yugoslavia(modern day Croatia) and was helped out by some kids who took him to their village and gave him some food. Then they hooked him up with some people who helped him meet up with other downed pilots who had collected in the town of Delnice. They finally got out after a month long evasion/evacuation and were back stateside in May.

My uncle went to Croatia to research all of this and wound up finding the village where my grandfather was taken to...and amazingly enough...one of the kids who helped him. They also my uncle to a place where a lot of the collected plane parts were located and they found some that matched the serial numbers on my grandfather's plane. He brought some of them back with him to the states for my grandfather to see. It was pretty cool to get to look at them and think about the situation and where they came from.

Thanks Paw Paw. You are a much braver man than I will ever be.

You can know vets and still have an unfavorable view of the current use of the US military. There's no doubt the costs outweigh the benefits in maintaining the current military, which spends millions to be armed out the ass with enough nukes to blow up the whole world several times.

There's absolutely no reason for this:

I agree. But to talk about vets and not know one puts credibility to issue.

I also agree one hundred percent about the spending. What drives me crazy with the budget cuts is it always hurts the lower enlisted and cuts pay increases. The security firms, and generals still get their insane amount of money to wastefully spend on nonsense.

But this is memorial day. to honor the ones who went to war and died. Regardless of how you feel about the war, the ones who went there and died should get this without politics being bullshitted into it. I realize the trolls are just being trolls.

Yes, these wide-ranging programs to specifically target military veterans are completely hollow and not intended to actually improve the companies employing them. It's not as if we're in a recession and companies have to be very selective. Oh wait...

So basically the government subsidizes companies to employ people they normally wouldn't?

Seriously though, I wanna know exactly what "skills" bullying iraqi children has given you veterans that you think will help you in the job market:lol:lol:lol

Well I was a weapon system project manager that planned and executed multiple-million dollar improvements to existing aircraft. Now I'm a project manager planning and executing improvements to banking systems.

But, you can go ahead and generalize every veteran as a gun-toting baby killer if it suits your argument. Just know you sound like an uninformed ass.

What part of "private" programs didn't you understand? These programs would exist regardless of a government subsidy because there are good people that will be in search of a job as the military draws down.

How old were you when you went? you sound more like someone with some education, so I can't hate on that. I was referring more to those high school graduates who think that they army "experience" will net them anything more than some retail manager position.

You're a dipshit. That's a private initiative spearheaded by Chase with support of about a dozen other major private companies.
:lol So it's similar to a charity project where companies commit to giving a certain amount to charity, amrite? That's why they need to advertise the fact they're hiring veterans.

So basically, that's how companies view hiring veterans, they view it as philanthropy work that'll help PR :lmao
