View Full Version : How would this run compare historically

If the spurs win this series (I know the games still need to be played) in 5 or 6, they would face a very week team in the finals. I think they could easily sweep whatever the east puts up. That would put them winning the championship with only 1 or 2 losses for the whole postseason. I know, this may not happen but this team certainly has potential to do this. The Thunder are the biggest road block IMO. So If this happens and they only end up with 1 or 2 losses, where does this put them historically with the long winning streak and few losses? What is the last team to have this sort of dominant run?

The 2001 Lakers went 15-1 in the playoffs on their way to a title.

The Spurs still have a shot at going 16-0, and even if they lose 1 or 2 games in the playoffs, this would still be one of the best playoff runs ever.

Thanks Tampa, Its just incredible after last years debacle how good this team is. It is great to be a spur fan right now.

The finals opponent would have advanced further than OKC and it would be tougher. The Spurs won a very close game at home, its not a sure thing they will win the series.

The Heat aren't weak. They are going to be a huge challenge for the Thunder or Spurs. Might even be favorited.

16-1 would be a record. There have been one loss champions before, but not since the first round went to 4 of 7.

Though really, while 16-0 would be cool, I'll personally take 16-6 just as happily.

Any word on whether Bosh will be back for the Finals? Without Bosh, they're a lot less of a threat, IMO.

Erh, I know you hardly ever have ST disagree with you for obvious reasons, but the EC is shit. Spurs can sweep whatever the East can throw at them. IMO.

Anyhow, east sucks... Heat are a handful on the perimeter, but tbh, James and Wade need to go for 40+ both to beat either Spurs or Thunder... just don't see it on a 7 game series without HCA...

timvp, I hugely respect your analysis but I would like to know how you come up with the heat being favorites. I watched them against Indiana and they were plain bad. They struggled to score in the 80's against Indiana. If Indiana would stop tripping over themselves, they could have won that series. Perhaps Bosh makes that big of a difference but I don't see it. I still think Durant and the Thunder are the biggest competition.

If Spurs go 16-0, or 16-1, they would be the most dominant team in NBA history.

If the Spurs go 15 and 1, then it will be because the playoffs were cancelled.

Of course he is :rolleyes, remember when we got complety torched by the Heat because Lebron suddenly went nuclear. The team has gotten better but you can't dismiss them.

Where do this overconfidence come from? Espn?

Last year the ECF was supposed to be the real finals, how did that turn out?

If Lebron and Mike Miller can hit threes like that for four out of seven games, then there's not much you can do.

Night and Day is the decription between that 9-5 Spurs team that played Miami that night.

Spurs are 50-11 since that night.

Miami would not have a chance to win the series against Spurs.

There is no way the Spurs go 15-1 because the first round is no longer best of five. Let's not forget those 2001 Lakers only had to win three games in the first round to sweep. They had it easy.

This team has a legit shot at 16-0, which would put them in the conversation as one of he best ever. I'm not being homer fan neither. I'm not blind nor am I scared.

It's not going to happen but if they managed to pull it off, they'd HAVE to be discussed with the 86 Celtics/86 Lakers/96 Bulls/01 Lakers because a display of that kind of dominance has never been seen over such a long and important stretch
