There is a difference between what Kobe sited in making him a fairly smart person in his non-basketball life and in being a smart basketball player. He might be bright off the court but he isn't on the court and honestly since it is differing kinds of intelligence they aren't necessarily going to correlate. There are plenty of smart problem solving minds that don't react quickly in the sense of being smart athletically.
