View Full Version : Did Harden get Olajuwoned?

Fluke game or Manu just showing who's the best sixth-man? I thought it was telling Harden saying he needs to get to the line to feel comfortable out there. With the Spurs being one of those teams that don't foul much, is it a sign that Harden will have a tough time? Too premature?

Too small a sample size, so yeah -- premature, IMO.

harden overrated, all he does is drive into the paint and jumps into guys hoping to get a call, same with westbrook, tbh

I'm insulted at the idea that Manu would be motivated by an individual award, muchless something as useless as a 6moy trophy. Hakeem needed that to get up and play to his potential for the only time in his career.

But in a sense, I guess he did. History will likely show that all the supporting players around Manu are leaps and bounds better than OKC's.

ginobli actually made fun of the 6th man award when he got it years ago, think he was insulted by being called best bench player

Publicly, Manu would never admit this. Privately, I don't doubt that he was motivated by the match-up.

Whatever gets you pumped.

6MotY is one of the most meaningful awards given, imo.

I think so. Oh and since the analogy compares Manu to Hakeem, Harden actually got DRobbed.

I actually mentioned this topic in the game thread.

Oh, and since it's a Spur doing it to someone else it's actually a reverse-Olajuwon. ;)

No, the title is right. Or you could say that Harden pulled a DRob. Damn.

Anyway, I thought I read somewhere that inside the locker room Gino was dying to play because he was tired of the comparisons of Harden to himself. He didn't like them one bit.

I'd go searching for the quote but I'm tired and have an early morning ahead.

harden is being compared to robinson. but you don't say robinson got DRobbed, you say he got Olajuwoned because Olajuwon beat him.

Are you aware that in the 1993-94 season, Olajuwon won the MVP, DPOY, and Finals MVP?

There is no doubt Manu puts the team ahead of himself but you know he relishes the "rivalry" and getting the better of Harden.

Yeah, but he didn't deserve any of them.

:lol no problem. I was wondering why it took so long for someone to call out my original statement. Robinson played pretty good in that series, and I bristle at the idea that he was owned in any way, but Hakeem was in another world. Still stings.

Meh, it wouldn't surprise me a bit if Harden goes for 30 next game and Manu has like 13 or something like that.

I sure as hell would be surprised. I'm expecting Manu to at least score 17 tonight.

I won't expect Manu to play like that again this series but he may not have to.

James needs to step up and attack and get to the line. He needs to be on top of his game for us to win.

The MVP dis is way overrated in terms of history. Hakeem was averaging 32ppg over the course of the first two series that year. He was already on a tear before he got to the WCF that year.

Hakeem was motivated prior to the MVP award being given out (helps when your team trades for your old college buddy who is a future HOFer) and knew he wasn't going to win the MVP because he missed too many games and his team didn't even win 50, while DRob's team won 62 and had the top seed in the WCF.

It's true what barkley said harden is great against bench players that's his time to shine in this case Manu is anything but a second string player he could start in any team thus being a mismatch for harden... He's never come across a six man like manu

For the comparison to make sense, Harden would have to have been triple-teamed due to having horrible teammates while Ginobili exploded going one-on-one, tbh.

+1 And then who's going to to play Kenny 'the Jet' Smith at the post game podium when we win the series and proclaim that Ginobili should've won the 6th man award.

Doesn't anyone remember that classless episode?
