Holy crap, I just remembered Podolski plays for Arsenal. Has the guy done anything worth mentioning the past month or so?

He's wasted on the wing. He isn't a winger, he's a striker. Basically, he's a CF playing wing. He could give you a good pass or two, but you won't see him beating defenders with pace or trickery. His best trait is his finishing. Thus, if you want to use him correctly, he should be in the box getting on the end of things. Due to Wenger's tactical inflexibility he's stuck out on the wing in a formation that's clearly not working. But continuing to play him on the wing in this faltering formation means he's on a hiding to nothing most of the time.

To put it short, IMO both Walcott and Podolski need to play centrally. Wilshere and Arteta would be more effective further up the pitch and Giroud needs wingers either side of him.

Didn't Podolski play on the wing years ago for the German national team? Seemed to me that way but that's using memory from years ago.

He did. But I think it's easier for him to play in the Germany NT with so many class players in the middle. Therefore, inevitably space does open up on the flanks. For Arsenal he would be best as a second striker. But that's just me... :p:

Chelsea's Eden Hazard at centre of sacking storm in Belgium regarding his brother Thorgan

It's easy to sometimes get the impression Eden Hazard can't do right for doing wrong in Belgium. Much as he's lauded by some football fans in the country he also receives more than his fair share of criticism from sections of supporters, his national team coach and chiefs at the Belgian FA.
The gist of it is usually that Hazard needs to improve his game and pull his weight more. Former coach of the Belgium national team Georges Leekens was a keen critic of the player and the two had a tense relationship. Way back in 2010, when Hazard was just 19 years old, Leekens, then his national manager, accused the player of being lazy and wasting his talent. It's a theme which to a certain extent has continued and the standards Hazard is expected to meet don't appear to be attainable.
The slight on his reputation has stuck and that's led to a new controversy. Thorgan Hazard, 19, was signed up by Chelsea in the summer after the Premier League club had secured his older brother from Lille. Thorgan was immediately sent out on loan to Zulte Waregem. At the weekend he scored a goal against Bruges. It was the only goal of the game and meant a fourth consecutive league defeat for the side. Bruges then sacked their manager and who should that be? None other than Eden Hazard's old foe Georges Leekens.
Hazard then tweeted:

http://api.ning.com/files/uRIJprb1pxzWePOXjDMp*qVH5LcDEFLPCt6F7VYvXqIGsdBvQX AIJnJ1v5pF5UTI58XQ1qKruv75sXLH3zFzOw__/hazardtweet.PNG

This translates to 'Little bro is too hotttttttttttttt - thanks'.
The part of the tweet saying thanks has been interpreted by many in Belgium to mean that he's thanking Thorgan for getting Georges Leekens the sack. It's been picked up by the country's Sport Voetbal Magazine (http://sportmagazine.knack.be/sport/nieuws/people/bedankte-eden-hazard-broer-thorgan-voor-ontslag-georges-leekens/article-4000203572264.htm) amongst others and is gathering pace.
Rightly or wrongly it's not going to improve his relationship with those at the top of Belgian football. At least everyone at Chelsea loves him.

This. Arsenal took advantage of a massive advantage, but were massively bent over by Tottenham before the red. 1 goal with 2 extremely close non-goals in the first 18 minutes... Former Dutch player tells Sky that Huntelaar is likely to be Arsenal bound this winter

The Klass Jan Huntelaar story took yet another twist this evening when former Dutch player Erik Meijer, now considered an expert on the game as a TV pundit, told the Germany's Sky Sports that the striker would be leaving Schalke this winter and Arsenal was the most likely destination.
The TV quotes, which went out prior to tonight's matches, have been picked up by Press Portal (http://www.presseportal.de/pm/33221/2368264/sky-experte-meijer-huntelaar-wird-schalke-im-winter-verlassen) in Germany and they quote Meijer as saying "According to my information (from Holland) Klaas-Jan Huntelaar goes away in winter and the favourite right now is Arsenal."
Dutch journalist Jan Leerkes backed him up "I think Erik's right. That's what I've heard, Arsenal are the favourites, Liverpool is the alternative. I can honestly say, if I were him I would stay at Schalke. Since he could be a legend."
German tabloid Bild said a few weeks ago that Huntelaar was likely to be staying with Schalke after the Bundesliga club offered him a big new contract, they said that he was content with the team and happy at how things were progressing. It was even suggested that a new deal would be announced in early December, but things appeared to have changed since then.
Italian outlet Calciomercato.it (http://www.calciomercato.it/news/184065/Calciomercato-Juventus-ESCLUSIVO-agente-Huntelaar-Nulla-e-ancora-deciso.html) spoke to Arnoldus Oosterveer, Huntelaar's agent, about potential Juventus interest a week ago and what the situation was with Huntelaar, he said "Nothing is decided yet, what you read in the newspapers, of an agreement between Huntelaar and an English club is false. It is, in fact, just rumours.
"Klaas has not yet decided anything about his future, has not decided if he wants to play in Italy, Spain, England or stay in Germany for example. He'll be planning his future in the winter, in the coming months. To know the future of Huntelaar must therefore wait."
For Meijer to be correct things must have moved on during the last few days and if Huntelaar did arrive in the January transfer window it would surely be a welcome addition to the Arsenal squad. The Holland striker has a big rivalry with former Arsenal man Robin van Persie and would relish the chance to prove he can be just as good in the Premier league.

Sir Alex Ferguson: Rafael Benitez lucky over Chelsea job timing Comments (339) (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20462178#dna-comments)

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says Rafael Benitez is "very lucky" to be named Chelsea boss ahead of the Club World Cup. (http://www.fifa.com/clubworldcup/index.html)
The former Liverpool boss replaced Roberto Di Matteo who was sacked on Wednesday after eight months in charge.
Benitez won the cup with Inter soon after taking over and could do so again with Chelsea next month.
Ferguson said: "On his CV he could have two world championships and nothing to do with the construction of the teams."
The Club World Cup is contested between champion clubs from all six of the world's continental confederations.
Ferguson added: "Rafael Benitez is very lucky. Jose Mourinho won the treble at Inter; Rafa took over and they won the world title without having to do anything."
Benitez and Ferguson The Manchester United manager had a fractious relationship with Benitez during the Spaniard's time at Liverpool. One high-profile fall-out was over Ferguson's refusal to sell Gabriel Heinze to the Anfield club. But perhaps the biggest row was in 2009 when the Scot suggested Liverpool would be affected by nerves during the Premier League title run-in. Benitez's response was to deliver a series of "facts", backing up his belief that Ferguson benefited from more favourable treatment from the Football Association in his dealings with match officials.

Di Matteo was sacked (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20423905) despite having won the Champions League and FA Cup in his short tenure.
"Everyone feels for Roberto Di Matteo, and quite rightly," Ferguson said. "It's quite amazing that you win the FA Cup and the Champions League [and lose your job]."
Benitez, 52, who was involved in several disputes with Ferguson during his spell at Anfield from 2004-2010, won the Italian Super Cup and Club World Cup during a six-month reign at Inter but was sacked in December 2010 (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/europe/9302348.stm) and has not been in a managerial post since.
The Spaniard's new team are still involved in five competitions and are currently third in the Premier League, four points behind leaders Manchester City.
They travel to Japan for a Club World Cup semi-final on 13 December with the final three days later.
But first up for Benitez is a home match in the league against Manchester City.
"I hope he is lucky on Sunday too," said Ferguson.
"It happens time and time again when a new manager comes in that a team win their first few games.
"It is strange how it happens and sometimes you wonder if it encourages chairmen at football clubs to make changes because they think: 'if we get a new manager we'll win the next two or three games'."
Meanwhile Ferguson has given his support to referee Mark Clattenburg, who on Thursday was cleared by the Football Association (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20420934) following allegations from Chelsea that he used "inappropriate language" towards their players.
"I didn't believe it anyway," Ferguson said. "The unfortunate thing for Mark is he's had to carry that stain for the last few weeks and everyone in the game is pleased for him now, apart from Chelsea." :lol
