Do they realise how much easier the game is if you don't have to dribble?

So sick of the average NBA fan that doesn't know what a travel is so they think half the plays are travels.

Ridiculous. Try actually watching the game and seeing his footwork. After you read up on the NBA traveling rules, and understand what's called and not called.

Almost all NBA traveling calls are one of these three, and these are what the refs look for:

a) Player on wing catches ball, establishes pivot foot, starts drive, moves pivot foot before dribbling.

b) Player posted up does spin move, moves pivot foot before shooting.

c) Player driving to basket bounces off somebody, refs either call a foul, or call traveling, depending on whether they think the defensive player moved to bump him or maintained position and verticality.

What you don't see called much, especially with stars, is a non-painfully-obvious extra little step on an open path to the hoop when there's no defense at all.

Nor do you see called the "euro step" where the player is right on the edge of picking up his dribble while making the first step towards the basket, or maybe even a little bit over the edge.

Please don't be fooled by jump stops. LeBron does that a lot and he does it very well, and it's perfectly legal.

:lol Spurs fans are showing their fear of Miami with these type of threads. You still have OKC to deal with while Miami is already waiting for the winner in the finals.

:lol why are you constantly projecting? Every time a Spurs fan criticizes or makes fun of LeBron/Wade you're right around the corner to let us all know how afraid we are of Miami.

I guess getting blown out of the Pacers' building would shake anyone's confidence :lol

that actually looks legit to me... going by current NBA standards, I think just about anyone could pull that off and not be called for a travel or carry.

The game-winning/changing crab dribbles from those Cleveland-Washington series though are :lol worthy, as well as James' general foul rate over his career.

The GIF is actually interesting. The start of the dribble looks OK to me. He kind of missed one last left handed dribble at the end but he was also bumped. Maybe the ref never saw the missing dribble. Maybe he did and decided to let it go rather than call a foul. Maybe he was waiting to see if the bucket was made, and if not, would have called the foul.

This is slo mo. Love to see the regular speed video. I'm sure it looked very smooth. That's a big factor in whether the refs perceive a travel. It's happened to me often in games. It's not hard to sneak in an extra little bunny step if you're moving your feet fast and it looks natural.

On the other side of the coin, I've had traveling called against me when it was herky jerky or off balance, even though I really did have my footwork down.

The YouTube is a perfect example of what I was just talking about. Regular speed it looks legit. Slow it down and you see that little extra step thrown in.Just picked up the dribble about 1/3 step early. hah! I've done it myself. (not the dunking part unfortunately).

This is also an example of the NBA practice of not calling traveling unless it's obvious when there's a clear path to the basket, especially for stars.

That one looks clean tbh, he takes the first step as he takes his final dribble.

Ewing used to have a 3 step move in the lane that was a running jumper. Sometimes it was 3 steps, or 4 maybe even 5..

His foot lands 3 times after he picks up his dribble. They are all travels and obvious even at normal speed.
