With 53 seconds left in the 4th qtr and the Spurs up 115-107, Westbrook misses a 3 pt shot and Parker rebounds.

Then OKC lets Parker casually bring the ball up the court and run off 20 seconds before Parker shoots and makes a 3 foot shot. Spurs 117-107 OKC.

OKC calls time out with 33 seconds left.

Why didn't Brooks immediately foul Duncan when Parker rebounded the Westbrook miss? At worst, Duncan makes both FTs and the score is 117-107 but with 53 seconds left. At best, Duncan misses one or both.

I guess the young fella is still learning.

You have to foul the guy with the ball. IIRC, intentional foul off-the-ball is 1 free throw and possession. In other words, they had to foul Parker.

Wasn't this rule instituted because of Hack a Shaq?

Yeah you can only do the off the ball Coach Pop hacking strategy outside of the last 2 min of the game.

Should they have fouled the guy with the ball before so much time lapsed? Probably so.

They should have definitely fouled with 53 seconds left. It was odd because they seemed to conceed only to realize about 15 seconds later that they should foul.

Bad coaching, for sure. Good thread title, TBH.
