View Full Version : Why is Doc Rivers considered a good coach?

Lmao all he is, is a player's coach who likes to shout Ubutu. He was horrific in Orlando and before KG arrived, Doc as the Celtics head coach, had a record 42 games below .500. Let us not forget Jim O Brien took a crappier roster to the ECF in 01-02. He hasn't done anything without Thibs and most of the credit to the 08 championship should go to Pierce and KG. Yet all anyone does is slobber all over Doc. Doc is no better then Vinny

Doc draws up good plays out of timeouts. Doc usually has a knack for motivating his team. Doc can get the guys to play defense... 2/3rds of the time. (A lot of credit goes to KG for that as well, obviously.) His biggest negative is not trusting enough in the young/unproven guys... he'll ride the players he trusts for a little too long in the game, even when they're underperforming/tired.

When you outcoach Phil Jackson in a 7-game series, chances are you're pretty much a good coach.

Actually everyone from the 1st Cont. Congress hated the Boston delegates. Had it not been for VA and Washington we'd be english subjects

Who gives a fuck? Of course they hated us, we were the first ones to get shit done instead of whining about it like bitches. Samuel Adams had some balls to him.

When the fuck did Denver become a state anyways? :lol

Or I guess you could talk smack about national monuments and institutions. Mass only has Harvard, MIT, a fuckton of historical buildings and museums, Fenway Park...

And Denver has... what, mile-high stadium?

And if you're from San Antonio, well you do have the Alamo. That makes the count 1 to 20+ or so. *applause*

I am speaking of winning percentage.

So you think Pop will have the same winning percentage without Tim Duncan?

In my experience, most people who root for teams from Boston have never actually lived in the state of Massachusetts.

Doc is one of the top 5 coaches in the league, stupid thread.

It's difficult to hear a discouraging word about Rivers (sans here). Breen & the boys genuflect every time the man passes breath or wind. But, they're on orders from Stern in NY., so it's expected, the nature of the beast. Like the injuries. Every fucking time Allen doesn't cut the mustard Breen & Van Gundy fall over each other to cite the injuries.

That's a red herring. The reason Doc is considered a good coach is because his team is successful. Teams need good coaching and good components to be successful. There are teams with good components that are not successful, because they do not have a good coach and good coaches that are not successful because they do not have good components.

So...

If you're not living in the New England area, there's probably an obvious reason for that...

Most people from out of state who follow a Boston team that to only follow one or two teams (usually Sox and sometimes Pats) and not all four.

Yes doc was a bad coach but that doesn't mean anything because he's blossomed with the big 4, he's also a good coach because he helped take a 5 man,30 year old roster to the ECF when this group was supposed to be gone 2 years ago.

Doc's stupidity cost him Tim Duncan in the eastern conference, he should never be considered a good coach

Torn ACLs had nothing to do with that.

rivers didnt fuck the team up at least (not like d'antonie, SVG etc...) you don't really need to DO much when you have such a stacked squad, doc deserves the credit for not being an asshole like d'antonie or SVG tbh
