They are commonly confused and yes it's pedantic to point it out but you, being from a shitty school district, probably could benefit from and intervention available.

So, to summarize: If you pronounce the word the initial letters make, it's an acronym. If you pronounce individual letters, it's an initialism.


SEAL is an acronym for Sea Air and Land.

PT is an initialism of Physical Training.
