Backs against the wall, players need to step up and show what their made of. Manu and Jack have done their jobs in game 5, hope to see a full team effort in Game 6 and we got this. Hoping one of those role players can fucking give us a boost. As much as I like Neal, Green is simply not that much of liability defensively and needs more than 4 mins of playing time. Both can get hot, but Green can at least put some effort on defense and he needs to play more.

My confidence level is surprisingly high this morning. I just posted a column here and explained why. I think the Spurs have more than a puncher's chance. I feel that they are due to play at least one more excellent game. This isn't the 2001 WCF. The Spurs have had a shot to win every game other than Game 3.
You guys serious?
We are finished.
Pathetic play, NO momentum... it is OVER. Come to terms with it.

Realistically..... I think we have no chance..................... but it's a game and these are the Spurs.... TD, TP, Manu we know they'll fight hard tomorrow.... but Durant is simply killing us making whatever shit he throws.... I'm 25%. fuck....... I was sure this was the 5th ring shIIIITTTT.

Game 6 is redemption time for laying down against the Lakers after 0.4
This is what will define the last images of the great Spurs. Win 2 and the "torch passing" waits. Crumble and let KD start his reign.
I say OKC gets "ahead of themselves" and tries too hard to run us out the building in front of their fans.
Spurs dominate Game 6 and win a close Game 7.

Nah, some teams do better when their backs are against the wall. Like those Pistons teams and maybe even the current Celtics. But I never have had that sort of confidence with the Spurs. Hasn't made them any less great over the years, though.
To be honest, even those teams got closed out most of the time when the opposition had them on the ropes. and/or put themselves into backs-against-the-walls situations that never should have occurred. Outside of the Lebron quitting for Cleveland series, I can't recall either of those teams beating somebody that was truly better than they were.
I think we just tend to remember their tougher moments and over-emphasize our recent weaker ones.

Same way we won games 1 & 2:
Better ball movement - which was completely gone in Game 3, but has returned for stretches in since the second half of game 4, but it needs to come for 48 minutes.
OKC's role players wilting - they're destroying our role guys right now, which shouldn't happen. They're a decent group, but have played above themselves the past 3 games.
Not that I'm anything close to optimistic for game 6, but it wouldn't take the upset of all upsets for out guys to bounce back and get the job done. It just feels that way given the stakes.

Let's be honest. This season doesnt count. It's ridiculous to think it does. Spurs went on a crazy 20 game streak that included the 10 straight in playoffs. Only to lose 3 straight after beating the same team the first two times. This is not basketball. This is a race where you hope you don't get tired, stay healthy and get lots of help. There was very little practicing or adjusting from game to game. Very little training for season. Duncan and Mangoo are old. Parker is every bit as overrated as he has always been. It was just hard to see because of the short season. Teams were not ready to play. Even dirk had to take time off durning the season because he was not ready and the list of injuries is long because of the out of shape and not ready to play fitness due to this strike season. Whoever wins will be lucky to have the trophy. No need to be upset spur fans. It is what it is. God bless

Thunder bigs are defending it much better. Spurs seemed to get a little too used to the PNR creating one pass for a great shot. Right now, the Thunder are creating situations where it requires 2 passes - which the Spurs have excelled at for most of the season, but not for stretches in this series.

Think it depends. If the Spurs cut down the turnovers, get decent play from someone beyond just Jax on the bench, and the home-calls from the refs are egregious, then the Spurs have a chance. Something like 25%.
If not, if one of the big three don't show up, ect, then they don't have a chance. They also can't blow the chances they have when the Thunder go cold. That 0-7 start in game 5 should have resulted in a 15 point lead, instead it was half that and the Thunder were able to walk back into the game without breaking a sweat.

The Spurs have been in every type of playoff situation imaginable, remember? Shouldn't we all know this already... ?? I could've sworn we all did at one time. Pep talks, pep talks, pep talks. GEEZ.
OKC finally took a game here, fine... why would that automatic disclude The Spurs from taking a game over there? It doesn't. Again... this shit isn't over until it's OVER.

Maybe Tony will be more consistant and Thunder will actualy miss some big shots

If the Spurs had anything resembling an reliable zone defense I think it would work wonders against the Thunder. The defensive rotations, coming from the other side, have been atrocious. Tim let him self be caught in no-man's land on almost every pick and roll, it was embarrassing. The biggest problem I see, however, no matter what they say is that I don't think the Spurs believe they can beat the Thunder right now. When Harden enters the game the Spurs completely shrivel up and shit their pants. It's an utter and complete mind-fuck going on for the Spurs right now. They are getting beat on the court because they're getting beat upstairs.
Oh and I give us a 50% shot at game six and if it goes seven its ours.

Which might be their undoing. Their confidence level might be high enough to not be properly scared of us. Yes, they'll know it will be hard, but somehow, like most of you, they'll be thinking it's over. I can guarantee, to Tim Duncan, Stephen Jackson, Manu Ginobili, Boris Diaw, and Tony Parker it's not over. My only concern are the rotations. Tiago, Green, and Bonner have collapsed seemingly, but will have to get some pt you'd think. Neil and Blair will get minutes. I wonder if Pop doesn't change the bigs lineup and decide to use Diaw in the second unit where we need his experience and passing. We need to win one game. If the Thunder are invincible we won't, but I don't think they are. If they blink, we have a shot.

The Spurs' chances have less to do with how they perform in Game 6 than with how OKC performs.
If OKC continues playing the way they have since Q4 of Game 2, there is nothing the Spurs can do to beat them. All of what once were OKC's weaknesses have disappeared, so with the Thunder executing at such a high level, the Spurs' talent disadvantage is decisive.
Against most teams, including probably Miami, SA wins Games 4 and 5.

I'm confident the Spurs can win Game 6, but not very confident that they will actually win it.
The Thunder are playing very, very well right now. They don't turn it over nearly as much as they used to, they have found a way to play team basketball, they have adjusted defensively and the Spurs haven't found an answer to that, and, last but not least, the Thunder have the best individual player in this series on their team.
I am very, very confident that the Spurs will take game 6.
Not like I have any other choice to be honest. Its either be depressed or be optimistic.
Cant get depressed over a basketball game so I'm going with the positive here.
Spurs are more than capable of winning 2 games in a row against this Thunder team. The question is, will the Spurs players show the fire to want it? Unlike game 5.
objective
06-05-2012, 03:31 PM
They're done.
Going to be a blowout. Manu and Jackson might put up enough of a fight to be close after the first quarter, but the dead legs of Duncan, the typical playoff shrinkage of Parker, and the absolute armageddon of choking Spurs shooters, combined with Pop's postseason work gives them a 99.9% chance of quitting by the second half.

As a Spurs and Mavs fan, I'm seeing grim similarities to the Mavs-Heat Finals in 2006.
If there were ever a time for the Spurs to draw upon all of their "championship experience," this would be it. After all, Duncan, Parker, Ginobili were around when the Spurs nearly came all the way back from down 3-1 against Dallas in 2006.

30% or so and I have a feeling I'm being generous.
Its not that the Spurs are worse than we thought they were just last week. Its really not. I think against any other team in the league right now the Spurs would be doing whatever they wanted. But in these playoffs, the Thunder have shown an incredible tenacity and teh ability to always fight back. There is no quit in OKC at all and when you put that on top of their incredibly talented team then you have a very dangerous combination.
I believe the Spurs should go back to what got them here (with the exception of playing Bonner). That means start Danny Green and that means sticking with the big man rotation that was established at the end of the season wth the exception of Bonner. Green may go for 8 and Tago may foul out with 6 offensive fouls while trying to post up Derek Fisher but the reason we won 20 in a row had everything to do with our role players stepping up.
We can't try to put it all on the Big 3's shoulders becasuse at this point in their careers the Thunder has the better big 3. Like it or not, we'll only win if Danny Green and the rest of the "others" find their game.

roughly 30%.
Seems like a sizable chance for the Spurs, but then again a much larger chance for OKC. It's going to be a very tough game, but if they limit turnovers, stay out of foul trouble, and shoot reasonably well, they should be in the game and who knows then what happens down the stretch.
As always in this series, turnovers are key. Cannot turn the ball over vs. OKC.

2% sounds about right.
To be honest, I lost confidence after game four, when it became apparent to me that the Spurs had lost confidence. As I always say, believing is half the battle. I honestly was as confident as I came off before that though. But if you'd have told me that the Thunder, who turn it over the most in the league, would suddenly significantly cut down on turnovers to the point that they've won the turnover battle through five games with one of the best in the league at not turning it over and that they'd go from last in the league in assists, to racking them up at a high rate, then I wouldn't have picked the Spurs in the first place. There was no rational reason to think that would happen though. To all of a sudden change who you are mid series, I don't recall seeing that before. They've defied one of the go-to lines of thinking in the NBA, about how "you are who you are".
