Don't believe

By the way, Timvp agreed that I would start the game 6 blog, so someone sticky that shit

This thread is not really about the game itself, but more about what our FO is going to do next summer

The Thunder have kicked our collective asses; I thought we were going to win in 5, but OKC is the better team
They are deeper than I thought, and they are better defensively than I thought

It doesnt help that Pop is being outcoached by a former jumpy cheerleader.

So what to do with Duncan, TP, Green and Neal ?

SHould Pop retire?

Bonus question: can the Miami Heat beat OKC in the NBA Finals ?

Don't believe

Congrats to the Thunder and their fanbase. After being ravaged by that bombing 17 years back, the outlook of the city has improved culminating with the basketball champions of the 2012 lockout shortened season.

Since 1990, I count 5 instances in which a team won Games 1-2 at home, lost Games 3-5, and then won Games 6 and 7:

Atlanta did it against Milwaukee in the 2010 ECFR.

Detroit did it against Cleveland in the 2006 ECSF.

Detroit also did it against New Jersey in the 2004 ECSF.

New York did it against Indiana in the 1994 ECF.

Utah did it to Denver in the 1994 WCSF.

It wouldn't be unprecedented to get this done; it feels unlikely, but it is possible.

Have to agree, this series is showing that we need a primary ball handler on the 2nd unit, Neal worked earlier in the playoffs but the OKC defense is too quick for him. We can't have any deficiencies next game. Also Pop has to put our best line ups out there to close out each quarter (one of our biggest weaknesses), Game 4 we almost got the lead down to 10 prior to halftime but couldn't, barely did it for Game 5. Spurs have to have the lead at halftime for them to win game 6. I might even consider Patty over Neal from now on, we need someone to initiate the offense quicker, Neal just isn't doing that.

Also we need to get Duncan involved early, instead of posting him up, use him like you would Splitter. He just hasn't found a rhythm in the post. And if he does play in the post he has to stay away from the hook shots where he releases the ball from hand closest to the defender. Bring back the bank shot as well.

What Thunder have done this year is awfully impressive. First Mavs in 4, then Lakers in 5 and finally Spurs in 6 is an awesome path. Mavs, Lakers and Spurs have won the last 13 years the WC. Thunder have roll over them with only one little scare when they were down 0-2 against Spurs.

Huge congrats to the Thunder. If Bosh came back at 100%, Thunder/Heat will be a heck of a final. Spurs have no reason to be ashamed of their playoffs run. Thunder are just a great great team.

Pop has to do something that he hasn't really shown he is particularly willing to do and that is shorten the rotation.

You can't die wondering and the best players need to see the floor for majority of the game.

Parker
Ginobili
Jackson
Diaw
Duncan

Splitter
Leonard
Neal (only as a 2guard, only for a few mins)

Green, Blair, Bonner only need see the floor in case of emergency.

I'll probably miss the first quarter tomorrow but I'll tune in for the rest of the game. This is it. This is the final stand. Although OKC has looked like a powerful animal, if I was to pick a team to grind out any sort of must-win game, I'd more than would happily chose this Spurs team. They've done this sort of thing of avoiding elimination on the road. At this point, throw any and all the statistics relevant to this series so far. Just play your fucking hearts out, that's it and that's all. If the Spurs lose tomorrow, it's gonna be because the Thunder beat them and not for a lack of playing with passion.

It's 1:27am, Manila time, and I can't sleep.

Not really because of the NBA playoffs, but it IS on my mind a lot.

I wanna see a kamikaze type performance from every Spur man, from player 1 to player 12. Even the ones who won't get in the game officially.

But Durant's jumpshot this series, honest to God, reminds me of Jordan's fade away jumpers from the '96-'98 three-peat era.

It literally looks as good as in the basket, when you see it released from his hands.

I never saw George Gervin play live, or in his prime, or full 82 games + playoffs (only saw some highlights) but the way KD's playing, must be like how GG looked like, scoring so easily back in the 70's-early 80's.

So easy and smooth and effortless.

It all starts from KD's easy, almost automatic offense. The confidence it brings to his team is huge.

Just like Kareem's skyhook in the showtime era, the Lakers didn't always needed to run all the plays for him, and they can play amazing run and gun basketball, but everytime Showtime was sputtering, couldn't make any outside shots and they were about to shit bricks.. there was always the last resort skyhook play to go to when they really needed a basket.

"Is this the last stand of the Spurs? Will tonight mark the end of the Tim Duncan era? Well, chances to win in Oklahoma and force a game 7 are slim, but I hope the Spurs at least fight as if there is no tomorrow ... because for them there is none if they lose"

We'll know who wins this game 5 minutes in

Exactly. Spurs will get off to a great start, probably lead by double digits 5 minutes in. Then the shit will hit the fan, over and over and over again.

Seen it too many times in the Duncan/Pop era ... and that was with a vintage Tim and Manu. Now we have old Tim and Manu to go along with mental midgets like Bonner, Green and Blair.

It ain't gonna be pretty.

Scary -- since 1998, Spurs are 2-7 in road games when facing elimination: they won Game 6 at Dallas in 2006 and won Game 7 at New Orleans in 2008.

You could say that the Spurs have gotten better over time in this spot; since 2006, the Spurs have faced elimination on the road 4 times and are 2-2 in that spot.

Then again, you could say that the Spurs haven't ever won in that spot without Robert Horry on the roster (or Bruce Bowen . . . or Michael Finley . . . or Brent Barry . . . or Fabricio Oberto . . . . )

Yeah, and if you think that's bad, guess their record when:

They just lost the previous game at home.
So now they're facing elimination
And playing on the road.

Can you say 0-fer?

OKC is so proficient at the mid-range game; they are a team that can consistently shoot over 55% mid-range regardless of the situation, opponent or who is taking the shot (Ibaka, Perkins, Collison...). That is why they are the 2012 World Champions.
