That's a good thing.

Crawford is a great referee to have in a raucous away arena.

I'm not entirely sure that's true. Entering the 2012 conference finals, of officials who've called at least 10 playoff games since 2007 (and there are 33 of them, some active and some retired), only 3 officials have been better for home teams than Joey:

Eddie F. Rush: 32 home wins, 8 road wins (.800 home winning percentage)
Monty McCutchen: 41-15 (.732)
Dick Bavetta: 31-13 (.705)
Joey Crawford: 41-18 (.695)

Other active officials (italics indicates official has worked 2012 conference finals):
David Jones: 13-6 (.684)
Jason Phillips: 15-7 (.682)
Michael Smith: 15-7 (.682)
Marc Davis: 25-13 (.658)
Derrick Stafford: 28-15 (.651)
Tony Brothers: 20-11 (.645)
Ed Malloy: 16-9 (.640)
Dan Crawford: 41-24 (.631)
Tom Washington: 30-18 (.625)
Ron Garretson: 26-16 (.619)
Scott Foster: 38-24 (.613)
Ken Mauer: 38-24 (.613)
Bill Spooner: 20-13 (.606)
Derrick Collins: 6-4 (.600)
Bill Kennedy: 24-16 (.600)
Leon Wood: 9-6 (.600)
Greg Willard: 30-21 (.588)
Mike Callahan: 32-23 (.582)
Zach Zarba: 8-6 (.571)
James Capers: 12-14 (.462)

So, as the active officials go, Joey's about as much of a playoff homer as anyone.

From the Spurs standpoint, before winning Game 4 at the Clippers in the WCSF, the last playoff road win with Joey on the floor was Game 1 of the 2005 West Finals at Phoenix. Since then, the Spurs lost: Game 3 at Detroit in 2005, Game 3 at Dallas in 2006, Game 5 at New Orleans in 2008, Game 3 at Dallas in 2009, and Game 2 at Phoenix in 2010.

Further, since 2008 in the conference finals round, of Joey's 10 games since 2008, only 2 road teams have won games and both times, it was the Lakers -- Game 4 at SA in 2008 and Game 6 at DEN in 2009 (clincher).

Banking on Joey being hellbent on pissing off a home crowd isn't a particularly safe bet.

They're going to have to overcome some pretty significant adversity to do this ish.

That would be true no matter who calls the game. The good news is that the Spurs have found ways to score the ball again.

Make shots and the officials have less chance to impact the game.

Make more shots and leave less to the whims of th neutrals.

Stern wants a 7-game series. Joey C is one of his best "fixers".

Spurs will get all the calls tomorrow night.

Spurs in 7. Book it.

If you're inclined to subscribe to conspiracy theories -- I'm not -- I guess you could argue that the drama in both series goes up exponentially if SA and MIA each figures out ways to win Game 6. That might, arguably, be more intriguing than a series in which the home teams win each game.

The league will not put 2 small markets in the Finals. So with SA, OKC and Miami being small markets. Boston is in. We are out.

Crawford reffed a good game 1.

Hopefully there's no Bavetta or Eddie F.

Those are far worse refs...

Let's hope they just don't make bs calls for OKC, but I doubt it.

Either way, Spurs players are playing scared and wasting time flopping and trying to sell fouls instead of playing the game, they're looking to get bailed out by refs and that's a losing philosophy, and means they are playing scared and lost.

That's not playing to win. They need to come out and play to win from the outset, every minute to the end, and lineups should not be used that normally kill momentum, EVERY possession counts, so POP needs to get his head out of his ass with his stupid momentum killer decisions, like horrible lineups, or resting players on cue at a certain minute mark even though they are on fire <----momentum killer and very typical of Pop.

Pop needs to get over himself and stop babying Tim and the starters with too much damn rest. It's elimination game in the WCF's damnit!.

F the rest!!

Get it done.

Agreed. What better way to guarantee a heavily watched game 7 than to have the Spurs rip one off in OKC in game 6 with the help of Crawford. Still though, I believe the Spurs can win this thing on their own merits. Similar to what Boston did in Miami last night. Either way all I want is a win.

Is Miami a small market? I would assume it's at least a decent size. Miami also has a large following since there are a ton of casual bandwagon fans who watch the Finals.

If Stern wants a game 7, there is no better referee to lead the officiating crew to get a series to that point than Crawford. If Stern really wants a game 7, I think it's good for the league.
