lol Brazil 5th :lmao

We all agree these rankings are kind of bogus. Even as the homer I am, I wouldn't say Uruguay is > Germany or the Netherlands

Last time I checked, Uruguay was the best south american team in the WC and won the Copa America. Both tournaments that Brazil also competed on.

Why were they the best in WC again?

Copa America .. yeah ok, I still wouldn't put them above Brazil.

Why were they the best in WC again?

Because they won the home team's group and got an easier bracket for sure. Their display vs. Holland was much poorer than ours if that serves you as a reference...

lol Brazil number three

Germany is clearly better than them.

And saying Uruguay > Brazil isn't a homer opinion.

Brazil is full of young guys that aren't all that yet, maybe in a couple of years they will be back to beign the powerhouse they're used to be but right now they aren't there. And Uruguay is a current WC semifinalist and Copa America defending champion.

As much as I think urunobili is quite a homer most of the time, I don't think it's a stretch to say Uruguay is better than Brasil at the moment. Have you watched them play lately? I know the Mexicans here would love nothing more than to claim to have beaten the best possible version of Brasil, it simply is not the case. This Brasil side is not very good.

Having said that it's still better than the current Argentina squad. Fuck how things look on paper, we're not beating Brasil playing like we are now. Which is sort of sad really.

If Sabella wasn't such a fucking coward we should beat Brazil on saturday by two or three goals, but no, instead of playing his best players he will go back to his chicken-shit ways by playing 5-3-2.

:lol

What why would we love to claim that?

And what team exactly do you think is a good Brazil team? Don't know if you look through the Mexican Soccer thread.. but if you haven't Maxi posted a stat saying Mexico is 6-3-2 against Brazil since 2001... Surely one of those would have been against a strong Brazil team.

That's not the case either way, I'm not here to tell uru that Brazil is the best in the world and we are up there because we just beat them.. I really don't think Uruguay is better, and I don't think Mexico is better than Brazil.. we have proven to be their nemesis, just like Argentina has been Mexico's.. Brazil is Argentina's.. on and on.. it really proves nothing.

In what do you base to say Brazil > Uruguay?

TDMVPDPOY

australia would be higher on that lists if they had taken the 90s seriously, it was only until japan wc and later wcs they finally matured and changes were made to the game fundamentals locally and internationally when it came to producing talent....

Does I really need to base it on something? It's Brazil. I watched Copa America and I really wasn't impressed with the way the tournament turned out, tbh... I just don't think it was a dominating performance by Uruguay to say they are up there. In the WC, they played against South Korea and Ghana to get to the Semi's.. and they didn't necessarily dominate. Oh but they lost better than Brazil?

IronMaxipad

Uruguay should be ranked higher than Brazil.

4th Place in the world cup and Winners of the Copa America speaks for itself. Don't see how anyone can rank Brazil ahead of them right now.

I guess you could say I'm not basing it on statistics, but rather if we were to see them play each other I would expect a full Brazil squad to beat Uruguay.

With that said, why do your beloved ELO rankings have them up there then?

Besides, saying you would expect a full Brazil squad to beat Uruguay isn't an argument. Why do you think they would beat them?

Uruguay has performed better in the last WC and Copa America. Going by these results you can conclude that Uruguay works better as a team and going player by player Uruguay has arguably the better ones.

Brazil doesn't have any player of the level of Suarez, Cavani and Forlan on attack right now (Neymar has to prove himself in Europe first). Muslera is one of the best goalkeepers in the World, same for Godin in the center back position, Gargano is great on miedfield, etc.

Don't get me wrong, Brazil and Uruguay are on the same level and Brazil may very well beat Uruguay on a match but it's not fair to say Uru is beign a homer when he says that Uruguay > Brazil, specially when you don't give an argument as to why you think is the other way.

Did you see the final 3-0 embarrassment of Paraguay? best defense of the tournament? ONLY team to make Spain sweat in the WC? Now that you've been outed as Mexican it makes sense your denial positioning.

It was Aguirre's fault Chicharito didn't plat much in the World Cup :cry

When it counted, this Uruguay team left Mexico in 2nd place in their shared WC group and took them to Argentina's path. Now the team beats Brazil, Uruguay is still less than Brazil? :lmao

Soon enough we'll have a confederations cup :tu

ok, just to make my position clear, as it stands right now IMO, the Latin American ranking looks something like this:

1) Uruguay
2) Mexico (I really do think Mexico is in better shape than Brazil or Argentina ATM)
3) Brazil
4) Argentina
5) Chile
6) Venezuela
7) Ecuador
8) Paraguay
9) Colombia
10) Peru
11) Bolivia

Like I said in another post.. it doesn't matter how well the opponent Uruguay beat did against Spain or Brazil... every match up is different.

The fact that I'm saying Brazil>Uruguay has nothing to do with the fact that Mexico just beat their B team. I'm not saying Mexico>Brazil or Mexico>Uruguay so this Mexico homer bs has no place in the argument.

Uruguay had the easiest route to the semi's, and that's not even close.. and that's why I'm not even considering placement of the WC either. Unless these two teams actually play each other that opinion won't change.

Who didn't play from Brazil?

They have been playing with their Olympic team with some fill ins for these couple of friendlies, because they really want to win it.

Julio Cesar, Maicon, Alves, David Luiz, Ramires, Kaka, Nilmar, Robinho, Anderson.. heck even Ronaldiho (who owned us last meeting) are some that I didn't see. Now I'm not saying most of these players should be in the NT, but... well that's more than enough to say the Brazil Mexico played wasn't at its full strength.
