A bigger version of Kawhi with less offense. Good rebounder/shot blocker/steal - stat sheet stuffer. Always thought he could work in the Spurs system when they go small, can play multiple positions.

Big fan of his game. Defense is there every night and his offense seemed to get better over the course of the season.
He wants to return to GS though.

Watching these finals, Dominic seems like the perfect addition against these new age type of teams with quick/long players. Like I said, he can play anywhere from the 2-4 spots on the floor without being outmatched by speed or strength.

Here was the book on McGuire coming out of Bruce Bowen's alma mater - Fresno St.
Strengths: Wing forward with a tremendous wingspan and the physical specimen type of athleticism to stand out on the NBA level Improved considerably in his junior year following his transfer from Cal Has great versatility with the ability to handle the ball and pass, as well as the strength and athleticism to be a factor on the boards An above average passer for a small forward. Averaged 3.3 assists per game Has even shown the ability to play point forward in practice Really excels on the boards, averaging close to 10 rpg Very strong defensively. Averaged close to 4 blocks per game Offensive skills have improved considerably since his days at Cal Came on strong at the end of the season, putting up numerous double doubles including a triple double in their final game
Weaknesses: Though hes already the age of a senior, his skills lack polish His shooting ability is poor, and his offensive game remains underdeveloped Lacks range on his shot and struggles to convert from behind the line Likely wont ever be a prolific scorer but brings a number of other attributes to the table Needs to tighten up his handle as he can get careless with the ball on drives. Had 3.7 turnover per game Hasnt shown a great ability to step up his play in clutch situations. His feel for the game remains behind his physical abilities Struggles from the free throw line at under 60%

While there is a good chance Spurs add a SG/SF to replace James Anderson, I doubt it will someone as established as McGuire. There won't be enough playing time available for him. I think Spurs will more go with a prospect.

Mickael Pietrus has reached agreement on a one-year, veteran-minimum contract with the Toronto Raptors, agent Bill McCandless confirmed to RealGM on Thursday night. The deal will be made official Friday, McCandless confirmed.
Dominic McGuire will be waived by the Raptors to make room on the roster, agent Mark Bartelstein told RealGM.

Might as well just stay with James for now since Kawhi's coming back soon.

He might have been an option worthy of consideration a few weeks ago. Not so much anymore.

With Neal now added to the list Green, Kawhi, SJAX, Neal; maybe they can give him a try

You still want him? Why did he wash out of Toronto? Was he that bad there?

Spurs don't have a roster spot to sign him and with how good Anderson was against Miami, I rather see Spurs giving him some minutes first instead of signing another player.

If the Kobe era Lakers is where a point guard's career goes to die, it's in the Lolangelo era Raps where a small forward's career goes to die tbh

So whats the rules on playoff eligibility?
Could a guy like McGuire be active for the playoffs?

Fuk it. Sign him

Even if he can't shoot, he is the less worst solution to me. He can give you 5-10 minutes of good defense against Lebron/Durant if Kawhi need some rest or is in fouls trouble.

Best candidate...might as well.

Seems like the best option. Has a decent enough height to play the 4 and back-up Kawhi as well. At least until Diaw is ready again.

Um, if Jax was waived and can't be on a playoff roster, haven't we missed the deadline to sign someone who can be?

The waivers request for Bell comes 10 days after the playoff eligibility deadline. Had Bell been waived from the Jazz roster before March 1, he would be eligible to join a playoff team as a free agent and play in the postseason. Because he was released after the March 1 deadline, he's free to sign with any team that will have him, but his season would end after the last game of the regular season, no matter what.
This was from an article about Raja Bell but still applies to any player

No. The deadline to add a FA is this Wednesday I believe.

Gotcha, thanks.
I doubt we sign anyone anyway. System too complex, who is out there who could help much? We're going with what we've got.

We've got no depth at the sf position. We better hope Kawhi doesn't get tired or get in foul trouble in the playoffs. Hopefully CIA Pop has plan for defending Durant.

I'm all for signing him, if available and we don't exceed the tax limit.
He's a good defensive player, and actually good, also thanks to his size, on one to one situations against the some kind of players we are supposed to have problems with (a la Durant and James).
One good point to do so is that he'e never been a big offensive player, so no big deal if he does'y know a lot of plays...in the limited minutes he has to play he could be relegated to simply defer his shoots (except for the absolutely wide open ones) to other players.
As long as he doesn't turn the ball over when he gets it and doesn't commit too many fouls why not.

why do you give a shit about exceeding the tax limit :lol

Considering our f.o. behavior they will try to stay under the lux tax limit, so they can have some money back at the end of the season.
I believe it's, rightfully, their priority... having more money is a good thing considering next season the team is gonna be re-loaded, possibly with some free agents, and that we could also try to buy some (low) draft choices.

I think he understands that the Spurs do, and that's how they operate. If you want to do any kind of realistic player trading or signing projections, that has to be a factor.

I had hopes we would draft him in the second round coming out of college, but he hasn't exactly made himself a household name in four seasons.
Being waived by three teams in one season, one of whom is the NO Hornets, isn't much of a recommendation. Something must be wrong physically or maybe drug use? If we're only worried about the remaining games because a new player couldn't be on the playoff roster, I'd rather bring up someone from the Toros and give them a taste of the big league to reward them for hard work in the minors. And a Toro would know the system.

Signing a FA at this point would only cost 3/82 (more like 2/82 or 1/82 given that it won't happen today) of a season's salary, right?
Still, I can't imagine Pop giving playoff minutes to someone he signed in mid-April.
