View Full Version : Tony Parker for Pau Gasol: who says no?

Lakers get: Tony Parker, Matt Bonner
Spurs get: Pau Gasol

Spurs then let Diaw walk and have to go sign one of many FA PGs with the MLE or whatever -- Nash, Kidd, Andre Miller, etc. Bring in De Colo to back up whoever it is.

Which team says no to this?

Just what the Spurs need, more softness. Soon they will just melt into one big fat pussy.

The plus side, though: Gasol would look incredible in this offense. Best possible showcase for him.

I'd do it. Then sign Nash.

Duncan/Splitter
Gasol/FA big/Blair
Leonard/Jackson
Green/Ginobili
Nash/Neal

It's a start

LAL would only do it so they can have the frenchie as a bargaining chip for an elite PG.

Not a bad idea, tbh. Twin towers make their return, and little pressure on Timmy to score in the block. His outside shot is money still and he can still bang on defense if he doesn't have to carry any offense on the block.

That said Spurs no longer have a PG in this scenario and Manu, soon to be 35 and always a season ending injury away from retirement at this point, carrying the perimeter offense/ballhandling duties night in and out sounds more than a bit frightening.

You would already have an elite PG though.

I'd consider it if we got Leonard instead of Bonner. Otherwise no.

PGs would be rather cheap in the FA market imho. good bigs are rare in the game these days and even if you have the $, they're nowhere to buy, i'd trade a PG for a big of the same caliber any day of the week tbh

Must be a joke..Spurs would never EVER do that....and if they did..I'd wonder if the Spurs front office lost their minds.

As much as the Spurs need front court help, no. You would be filling one hole in the roster and creating another. Besides, Gasol is on the downside of his career. Who knows what he has in the tank. Spurs fans were questioning Parker's resolve and heart all season. Gasol is no upgrade in that department.

The Lakers have to send a PG, otherwise it doesn't make sense.

The Spurs would fall apart without Parker. Ginobili and Duncan as old and going to be gone soon. Tony's all SA has left who's worth a shit on offense. Gasol is on the back 9 right now as well . . . maybe even on his last 5 holes. His career has certainly progressed 2-3 years past his prime.

Not a good trade at all. I'd gladly trade Splitter and Jackson + some other ass for Gasol though.

Spur fan thinks we need offense. It's always the fucking offense. We have enough offense. We need defense in the paint that can also score and hit FTs. There's like 2 of those in the league. We ain't getting either of them.

No way I'd want to see Kobe, Bynum, and Parker on the same team. That team would be deadly to the rest of the West.

maybe for bynum

The Thunder geared their entire defense around stopping TP. If they paid him the same attention as they gave Gasol, then TP would have shredded them and probably averaged more points than Durant.

Spurs may have done this trade two years ago, but no way would anyone even consider it now. Bynum would have to be the offer to even start talks.

The offense choked in 2011. We needed offense then. Don't deny it. We need Parker for both ends anyway.

Gasol doesn't give us great defense anyway, Lakers fans are constantly bashing him for being soft. All it does is make our offense garbage and at best slightly improve our defense. We will have shit ball handlers and slow perimeter defenders. Or do you really think a late 30's Ginobili is going to keep up with Westbrook, Paul, Rose, etc, and have healthy ankles for an entire season?

If it was for Bynum instead, I might consider it. Gasoft though, no thanks. Parker is better right now, and will be better next year and the following 5 years too.

It's pointless to dump your best player for a player who might not even be your best after getting here. If we were getting Gasol as a free agent somehow it'd be great. It's just pointless if it costs Parker, our youngest and best core player.

Don't forget that Duncan and Ginobili are old as fuck and will be gone in a couple years. Parker won't be.
