So is there any chance he could ever develop, or is he beyond hope at this point?

Its unbelievable how someone so tall and so long can be such a bad shot blocker/rebounder in the NBA. Averaged 11 board with 4 blocks in college.

Someone will probably give him a few million. A lost cause though I suspect

I remember Kurt Thomas' comment on possibly being a mentor to Thabeet. He said that he can't work miracles. lol

He wasn't even good when exiled by Memphis to the d-league.

Good example of the "You're tall. Go play basketball" category of player.

Going to OKC after agreeing to a 2 year contract.

Waste of money and a roster spot.

Posted in the FA thread:

Insurance against the possibility that they can't keep Ibaka or have to amnesty Perkins? Otherwise, every minute he plays means a better player is on the bench.

Curious move by Mr. Presti.

No shit. I'm usually willing to give Presti the benefit of the doubt, but this is a head scratcher. Thabeet is a major bust. He's so bad, I can't even see him as a competent rotation player like other busts eventually have become.

Cole Aldrich replaces Mohammed in rotation, Thabeet 3rd team Center. I doubt the contract is big enough to matter for anything, just adding depth in case of Injury. Pretty low risk move if it's only a couple million a year.

The Grizzlies got Thabeet off their roster and became a playoff team.

The Blazers got him from Houston to tank.

Looks like Sam Presti isn't perfect after all... :lol

I'd take Kwame Brown over this fellow.

Again I'd take Kwame Brown over this guy

At least Brown has proven to be a serviceable big man, this guy's a total stiff.

My first reaction was that signing him was a dumb move because the guy obviously doesn't care or put any effort into the game. But with a deep roster spot that will basically just be a glorified practice player, you might as well swing for the fences.

Thabeet if he ever actually cared about basketball would become a useful player. It's unlikely that he'll suddenly GAF but it's a no-risk, high-reward move by the Thunder.

Until him, Tskitishvili was the golden standard for draft busts.

Not Olowokandi?

Exactly the Spurs should have gone after him. He's taking the minimum. I remember a game last year where he played pretty well against us in garbage minutes.

Not Olowokandi?

Olowokandi and Kwame both had careers that lasted beyond their rookie deals. They were busts as #1 picks, but were at least rotation players. Skita and Thabeet really never have been even that.

I wish the mere fact of being 6' 0" would guarantee me that much money even if I didnt give a damn about my craft or life. . .

Here is a prime example of someone with great athleticism but an extremely low IQ. Like the Patriots or should I say the Pats stole the Spurs philosophy, I would take someone with Great IQ and good athleticism than someone with great athletcism and a mediocre IQ. Of course I would want someone with Great IQ and Athleticism but those players are few and far between.

This guy couldn't even hack it in the D League.

Thabeet doesn't have great athleticism. He is awkward but is long and has size.

Low risk move that could work out. But needs to work on his game. Just have him concentrate on protecting the rim and grabbing rebounds and he could be useful.

Would you still take the undersized PF with no knees or the tall awkward center?

If the tall, awkward center we're talking about is HashThab, I'd rather have the undersized PF with no knees.

Did that undersized PF butt fuck the awkward center in front of the world a few years ago? You have your answer...

Kandi was ok when healthy. He could get you a double double.

:lol Another free agent getting overpaid this offseason
:lol No offensive game
:lol Can't defend
:lol Don't rebound or hustle
:lol No work ethic
:lol No basketball IQ
:lol Sent to the D-League by 2 different teams
:lol Darko and Kwame are Duncan and Olajuwon compared to Thabeet
( The Thunder would have drafted him if it weren't for the Grizzlies

I'll take Bonner on Thabeet all day ever day. At least Bonner can shoot. Thabeet brings nothing to the table whatsoever.

Thabeet only brings being 7'3".

Let's examine no 2 draft picks over the past decade:

2000: Stromile Swift (who?)
2001: Tyson Chandler (late bloomer, often injured)
2002: Jay Williams (motorcycle accident)
2003: Darko Milicic (got no PT on the Pistons, turned into a rotation player on the Wolves)
2004: Emeka Okafor (ROY, double double guy, ultimately overshadowed by Dwight)
2005: Marvin Williams (:lol Atlanta drafting him ahead of CP3 and DWill)
2006: LaMarcus Aldridge (only one left of Portland's projected Big 3)
2007: Kevin Durant (3x scoring champ, enough said)
2008: Michael Beasley (:hat)
2009: Hasheem Thabeet (:lol owned by a 6'7" power forward with no ACLs)
2010: Evan Turner (too soon to tell, is behind the team's best player on the depth chart)
2011: Derrick Williams (see Evan Turner)
2012: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (hasn't even played an NBA game yet)
