This is what I call the "Hail Mary" option. Oden is obviously a gigantic risk, but the payoff could be amazing.

Low risk in terms of money and high reward in terms of potential.
He wont be asking for much money.

I read online that his plan was to take the 2012-13 season off and then sign with a team in 2013.

Signing him for the minimum for 2 years while accepting he won't play next season wouldn't be a bad move for a team. Get him in the door so if after a year off he becomes serviceable and ready to play, they have him locked up. Also wouldn't hurt from his perspective to be signed with a team to get help.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him sign in Phoenix, he must look at Grant Hill and wonder if he can overcome his injury problems in the same way

No way the Spurs take him though

Grant Hill never had 3 micro fracture surgeries before the age of 25.

I keep thinking about Sam Bowie, and the four really decent seasons he put up for NJ after Portland cut him loose. He was also a lot older (27) when Portland dumped him. Oden is only 24.

i take oden in a heartbeat just for another big body down low, he doesnt need to jump to play any form of defense, just his presence and putting arms up is all you need from him, his size will boxed out for easy rebs...

only problem is pacing of the game

He probably wouldn't jump much an excessive amount in our system which might actually be good for his body.
