All in all, great season. The Spurs should hand him a blank contract and tell him to fill it out.

Two years ago I thought Tim was sure to retire this year, but now I doubt it. I think he'll sign for 2yrs/$24mil (DRob-style final contract) and try to win the one more ring he so richly deserves.

Although I wish he'd sign a cheap one to give us the FO more flexibility, you don't ask that of the guy who has brought 4 trophies to the franchise.

There are 3 scenarios for Spurs depending on Duncan's contract:

Scenario 1: Duncan's new contract start at less than $6M per year.
Spurs will be in a situation where they might get some cap space. Obviously the closer to $6M his salary is, the less cap space Spurs will have.

Scenario 2: Duncan's new contract start with a salary between $6M and $12M.
Spurs won't have cap space. They will have no problem to use all their exceptions (MLE and LLE). Aside of costing less money to the ownership, there are no immediate edges for Spurs to have Duncan at $6M per year instead of $12M per year.

Scenario 3: Duncan's new contract start with a salary above $12M per year.
Spurs won't be able to use all their exceptions and will face the hard cap.

The most likely will be Spurs being in the second scenario.
