View Full Version : What separates the NBA from the other 3 major sports

There are no cinderella stories.
The current champions in MLB (Cards), NHL (Kings), and NFL (Giants) all made the playoffs in the last week of the season--the Cards on the very last day.
You'd never see that in the Association, tbh

Ratings won't permit it. Gotta have a star for the league to promote you/win.

son I'll tell you what separates the NBA is that the league rigs the games.

Parity is virtually impossible in a sport that can be heavily influenced by a single player, tbh..one day, people will accept this..

You can have Cinderella stories in other leagues because they seem to have better officiating. In the NFL the refereeing seems to be straight down the line and a lower seeded team gets the same calls as the top seed.
I can't say that the NBA is that impartial. I don't watch the other sports apart from the NFL so I can't comment on them.
If the NBA treated everyone the same I think you'd see more parity.

I love the NFL, but they also have serious officiating issues, even with instant replay, tbh..

I don't watch a lot of NFL. It's the only other major American sports league that I do watch apart from the NBA, but to me their officiating seems a lot better than the NBA. So you think they are no better than the NBA?
I'd like to get some opinions from regular NFL fans on this on how they compare to NBA officials.
Also, how exactly do they stuff up instant replays?

NFL
Raiders vs Patriots- tuck rule was the biggest pile of bullshit I ever heard, so don't tell me other sports in particular the NFL aren't rigged.

That's why a lot of people don't love the NBA.
For one, you need to have a superstar, if not 2-3, not much parity at all like other sports, who thoughts Kings/Devils, the 8th/6th seed would be in the SCF's.
Would be like Sixers vs Nuggets lol in the NBA.
Plus games are rigged.

It's amazing but they fuck up instant replays all the time. Still, nothing comes close to NBA officiating in terms of shittiness. Anybody who argues otherwise should shoot themselves in the face.

But those same people complaining about it continue to watch. Pretty pathetic...

Of course they watch, still doesn't change the fact the NBA has no parity, it's the same teams every year.

Since OKC is in the finals I don't think he is going to stop watching this season ;).
Speaking of that I have no idea who to go for. Who are you going for DD?

Don't forget Super Bowl XL and Spygate.
Plus Goodell is worse than Stern tbh... unless you're the Steelers, Patriots, or Packers, don't expect fair treatment from him.

How do you create parity in the NBA?..I agree the officiating is the worst of any sport, but it ties in to the superstar problem, which cannot be changed IMO..
Basketball, as a sport, is heavily influenced by the impact of a single player..as we have seen with many instances in the past, even having just one dominant player with a mediocre supporting cast can take you to the Semis/Finals..
NHL/hockey is a terrible comparison, tbh..home-ice is largely irrelevant, seeds are virtually pointless, a hot goalie can alter the course of an otherwise unspectacular team..NHL is a crapshoot, once the playoffs start..
A dominant scorer in hockey is on the ice for only a limited amount of time, same for every other sport, other than the NBA..
Don't care for baseball.
Only like college football because they aren't getting paid and they play their asses off to get to the next level.

Seattle SeaHawks vs Pittsburgh Steelers was the worst officiating game I have ever seen. Pacquaio fight a close 2nd.

NFL- One game playoff-sudden death
NHL- Hot goalie HCA is meaningless
MLB-Best hitter can go 1-20 and pitching can have off weak
NBA-Cream always rises to the top-Bill Simmons
Except 2002 Kings and 2006 Mavs

Agree 100% with this which is why NBA isn't at the top of my list in all of sports, i like seeing upsets.

Technically the last Cinderella story in the NBA was the Golden State Warriors.

What separates the NBA? It primarily celebrates the individual rather than team play.

It's harder to rebuild with a tight cap space and stupid ownership and front offices shooting themselves with dumbfounding moves.
