View Full Version : All this KG talk needs to STOP! (Summer Grocery List 2012)

The Spurs are not even a week removed from the post season and players like Tony Parker are already getting asked questions like "How would he like KG on the team next season." I personally think we need to play that card by ear and see whats happens in this years draft, tbh. As for KG, I feel he is a shell of his former self and if the Spurs ever want to shake the stereotype of being "old" and "boring" going after Garnett is not a step in the right direction.

List of things I want to see/hear about before Spurs Talk turns into KG Talk

Make sure TP and Manu get pleanty of rest before the Olympics.
Free Agency / Draft Night
Resigning of Jackson and signing of other key players.
Report on Kawhi Leonard and the other young players development.
Tims Contract.
Tims health and other Spurs training.
Olympics Report.
Summer Camp.

What do ya'll summers lists look like?

So if KG is a shell of his former self averageing about 20 and 10, and one win from the finals...then what is Timmy?

Nobody wants to see him yell at the padding on goalpost anymore, his bit is tired.

If he's blocking shots, grabbing boards, and hitting his mid range yell and pound away till the cows come home.

Are you seriously opposed to the idea of a Garnett-Duncan tandem?

Two of the top 3 PF/Cs of all time playing on a spurs team that's been lacking quality big men for years, in a conference that houses various teams with exceptional size and length?

You can't say that Garnett has nothing left in the tank, given that he just spent a good portion of the playoffs putting up numbers better than 85% of the big men in the league. Same for Duncan. Garnett has extensive playoff experience, championship experience, a seething desire to win (in the mold of Jax).

I can't imagine any scenario more perfect/plausible for the spurs in the free agent market.

Yes Tim said that but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't mind him if there on the same team. Seriously if any reason KG doesn't sign with us that's probably not even close to being why.

Tbh I can't see Garnett being unable to score on guards off switches. Having him and TD on the floor together would have completely wrecked OKC's defensive strategy for games 3-6. The guy looks like he has two good years left. I know it's a complete pipe dream (especially with Holt's comments in the lockout), but people acting like he wouldn't immensely improve the team are being ignorant.

We are probably only 2nd to Boston in terms of what we can offer him amongst the contenders since we have the full non-taxpayer MLE at $5m per year.

He probably stays in Boston but if he leaves, I'd say we are as good an option as any

Thats pretty fucked if kevin did that. I wouldnt put it passed him. Thats as low as it gets. Didnt he say something to charlie villenueva along the lines of, about looking like a cancer patient a few years back? That was well known for occuring. But i've never heard of Garnett saying this to tim. But for Tim to hate someone as he is stated of saying about KG i wouldnt be surprised if kevin did actually bark those words. Motherfucker he is.

Not necessarily opposed to it, I think there are other things that the Spurs need to work on first. And if we lose KG by then, it was never meant to be. Also, don't forget he would have to pick up coach Pops system, and that takes at least 2 seasons.

All this talk about KG to S.A. is silly. If folks, fans and media alike, truly understood some things about KG, then they would know just how silly all this fantasy talk really is. First, KG is a very loyal guy. He loved Minnesota very much and never wanted to leave - despite their history of losing. He had numerous opportunities to do so in the past, but chose not to. He talked many times in the past about how cool it would've been to play his entire career in one place. Though he was eventually traded to Boston and despite winning a championship there, had it been up to him, he would've stayed there in Sota.

KG is no mercenary. He's not a guy to chase championships like so many others have before him. He also has no desire to uproot his family to move to another city. He's just not that kind of guy.

As I've said before, should he desire to play next season, it'll be in Boston or nowhere.

You want to talk about Tony and Manu getting plenty of rest? That sounds like a fascinating topic.

Here: I hope Tony and Manu get plenty of rest this summer.

On to your #2a topic: draft night talk. Who do you guys think we'll draft with our first pick at #59 and then either trade or stash overseas and never hear from again?

Its a no-brainer. If we can get Garnett to sign here for the right price then we jump on that opportunity. If Antonio McDyess at his advanced age worked well here, then you can imagine how much better Garnett would work out.

People need to get over the fact that they "hate" Garnett and actually realize what he would bring to the table if we could get him....

We'd have a mobile 7 foot big-man with a polished post game, good range on his jumper and is an excellent defender and can block shots.

We'd be stupid to turn down his services. Period.

Neal got chick drunk and ran a train on her. Kidd, who we went after hard in '03, was guilty of beating his wife. Stephen Jackson threw punches at what seemed to be innocent people in the Malice at the Palace.
