said it before the Spurs/Thunder series. Lebron's still the best all around player but I'll take Durant right now. He's improved his passing/defense significantly.

This series will certainly determine who is currently the best player in the world.

Westbrook was just as important on both sides of the floor, tonight..

If Durant outplays Lebron all series, I'll concede that he's the best player in the NBA(although he has been allowed to rest for the entire playoffs, on D, going up against weak individual opponents during the first 3 series's)..

I just want Westbrook to receive credit as a top 3 guard, which is currently where he's ranked..

God damn Durant is awesome to watch. Sick to see a guy playing this well and 3 wins from a ring at age 23. I can't wait until Miami gets a coach next season and we see a modern day 80s Lakers-Celtics rivalry between the Thunder and Heat.

Kevin Durant is the best player in the NBA right now. He has proven himself to have the same icewater in his veins that is necessary to dominate. Like I said, after these Finals, the world will know who KD is. Eventually, BSPN will begrudgingly acknowledge that he is clearly better than LeHype. He still doesn't get the respect he deserves around these parts though. In time he will.

Dude has no post game or back-to-the basket game to speak of and yet he gets to the free-throw line a ton exactly how?!? BS foul calls,he's just one of many on his team that is coddled and given star treatment by the NBA

OKC is the new LA as far as reffing goes BUT without any sort of post player that could maybe possibly earn some of the ridiculous amount of foul calls, thus exposing the NBA's bias to a laughable degree.

Too bad OKC didn't have to go through Memphis, they woulda made Durant/Harden really think twice and earn them fouls.Seriously if the NBA is gonna give certain guys a blank pass, teams shouldn't feel bad about enforcing a little of their own rules via a hard foul or two.

The only thing stopping Kevin Durant in the foreseeable future will be Lebron James, and he'll be in his prime for another 5-6 years. :wow

The next 5 years will be epic as we'll be witnessing another Magic-Bird in Lebron-Durant showdown.

He'll be 28 this year, so five or six years is probably a stretch. He's probably got 4 more years of good solid prime before he starts to decline...barring any injuries, of course. Durant will be 24 and is still peaking.

The next few seasons should be fun to watch as they should continue to go head to head in the finals. As nature takes it's course and James hits the other side of 30 in the next two years Durant will overtake him. These next couple of seasons head to head will fuel a lot of arguments for who was the best during this era.

Durant is what - 24? He's still years from his prime. LBJ is already at his peak. Durant hasn't reached his. Not even close IMO.

benefactor
05-16-2013, 07:11 AM
Yeah...he's an easy target right now but unless some other prodigy shows up he will likely get there in the next few seasons. James will be 30 in two years and after 12 seasons of his large frame pounding on those legs his body will probably start to turn on him. Durant could easily go the Dirk route and turn alpha later in his career.

Durant is what - 24? He's still years from his prime. LBJ is already at his peak. Durant hasn't reached his. Not even close IMO.

Thats not what you said though. Despite those factors, you called him the best last year.

Before Miami, what teammate did LeBron have that compared to Ibaka, Harden or Westbrook? I'll wait...
You're deflecting. Fact: the Cavs stockpiled several lottery players due to years of sucking. Then, like the Spurs did for TD, they tanked to get LBJ (great move btw :tu). After LBJ came onboard, everything revolved around him. Every player drafted, traded for, or acquired thru FA was designed to compliment his game. It was his team.

That being said, he had players around him to make noise. The east was weak starting around 2005. So when he took them to the Finals in 2007, and got his shit thoroughly pushed in, it was no surprise.

But to answer your question, no he didn't have the caliber of young players you mentioned. When he lost, he got a pass on this very board because of this reason (I know of a certain player in LA that doesn't get a pass, who had an even shittier set of teammates that gets blamed for "missing the playoffs in his prime" but that's off topic for now).

Boiled down, he didn't win until he colluded. You can :downspin: if you want, but these be the facts. He did something no true all-time great would have done: join other stars in order to win. Even MJ said as much. So in my book, every ring he wins gets an * like them 1999 NBA champs. :lol

I was wrong. LBJ is the best player in the world - for now. I think that Durant is a monster in the making. I think he needs to get his skinny ass in the gym and put on about 25lbs of muscle. If he does that, he will surpass LBJ as the best player in the L IMO. LBJ is clearly better right now, but I think KD is nowhere near his ceiling.

i can never understand how can people think someone may put up 25lbs of muscle without slowing down. While basketball and football are probably the only sports where fat can actually serve a purpose, i don't think it would help Durant at all. To put up 25lbs with proteins alone in a year it would take a crazy amount of effort, i really don't see that happening.

2013 Playoffs KD v. LBJ

30.8 ppg - 24.0ppg
9.3rpg - 7.3rpg
6.3apg - 7.3apg
45.5% - 51.8%

He is basically a one man gang out there and doesn't have nearly the supporting cast LBJ has around him. Put KD on the 2013 Heat team in place of LBJ, and I'd argue they wouldn't skip a beat. Put LBJ in OKC without WB, and he's fishing too. We've seen the results of LBJ teams outside of Miami.

KG is bigger than he was as an 18-year old rook. It didn't slow him down. If anything, adding muscle will make Durant stronger in the post which will also will help him be a stronger defender. Hell, LBJ is bigger than he was as a rook. Did he lose speed? :lol

Terrible take, LBJ took a worse supporting cast than KD has even without Westbrick to the Finals....

In one series against the Magic in '09, LBJ outdid Durant's entire postseason this year, averaging 38.5 PPG on 48% shooting, while averaging 8.3 rebounds per game and 8 assists....

In arguably the biggest game of his pre-Miami career, against the Pistons in '07, LeBron dropped 29 of the Cavs' last 30 points.... meanwhile, when KD needs to step up by himself, he went 5-21 from the floor...

Now :downspin: dat shit!

No need to :downspin: - I already stated above that it was the Leastern Conference that year. The real "Finals" was the WCF. He had a good series though. He still got his shit pushed in when he got to the Finals. Truth be told, if Cleveland were a WC team, he wouldn't have gotten to the Finals until 2010. ;)

I wasn't comparing a 24-25 year old KD to KG or LBJ when they came into the league. I said KD needs to gain weight/strength which is true. You said that it would slow him down. I refuted that because KG came in just as skinny, then gained weight (eventually), and went on to have a HOF career. I didn't notice any loss of quickness in his game. Hell, he's still pretty quick right now as a certified TOSB. He just doesn't have the stamina he did 15 years ago. Then I mentioned that LBJ is bigger and stronger now than he was as a rook. There is no noticeable drop in his speed or quickness, even 10 years later.

So, for me taking time out from working and having to explain myself to you, -10 more points. Try harder son. :tu

He laughed at my post. So to back up my claims, I posted current playoff numbers betweem the two. Now, admittedly, LBJ is the best in the game today (bar none tbh). However, to laugh at my theory that this is the best we'll see of LBJ - and KD (being only 24) can overtake him as the best of the game - is funny, but silly IMO. At one time Kobe was the best player in the game, too. Even LBJ said as much. No one says that anymore.

Simply put, KD's ceiling has not been reached yet. Also, if KD gains strength (my opinion) he'll challenge LBJ as the best in the game. Not too far fetched. LBJ is better than KD (right now) and his supporting cast is better than KD's is. Will that change? I guess we'll have to see.

Happy for Durant. He's really good and will likely win several titles.

Pissed that dirty, coddled Fisher is probably gonna coattail to yet another ring. Somebody needs to MWP his ass, seriously.
