View Full Version : Congratulations Spurs - Thanks for a Great Series.

I saw a few other Pistons congratulating Spurs threads, but I wanted to create my own.

I came onto this board from the beginning of the series, and met a lot of great people, argued with a lot of people, and debated enough to cross the 300 post mark in a mere 7 games.

Amazing game, amazing series. I said before the game that whoever won game 7 deserved to be champs. Well, the Spurs won, and they beat my Pistons flat out. Great work.. and enjoy the parade that you earned. Enjoy the summer of celebration, and always remember where you were when Tim Duncan dished out those two passes for three pointers that sealed your win.

The Spurs are class. The Spurs are what every team in the NBA should be.

I echo Pistons>Spurs. I've been looking forward to this series all year. No Lakers, no Timberwolves, not even the Utah freaking Jazz.

"In order to be the man, you have to BEAT the man", says Rick Flair.

Well, Spurs. You're the man.

Awesome series. As much as my stomach hurts, and I'm completely devestated tonight, I wanted to come onto this board and congratulate you personally.

San Antonio Spurs, 2005 Champions. Well deserved.

I'll definitely be around. This series took a *LOT* out of me, as I'm sure it did for every true Spurs and Pistons fan out there.

I'd rather lose to the Spurs than anyone in the league. As much as we're 'mirror images', when you really look back, the Spurs were doing it before the Pistons were, and as much as it sucks to say.. they do it better. Timmy came up when he was needed, and Manu and Horry were just their crazy selves.

Part of me wants to be truly HAPPY for the Spurs, but as you can imagine.. that may take a few days to get this knot out of my stomach. It may have been enhanced by those $2 beers, but hey.. what's a better way to spend a paycheck than to drink your pains away, right?

Congrats again. I'll definitely be around to take the abuse.

Did I hear this correctly? NBA Draft on Tuesday?

No rest for the weary.

The thing I like about this thread, on top of the 'thank you's going around, is the fact that there are plenty of them.

I'm glad to see the Piston fans representing tonight. Spurs fans, take my word for it.. this is *NOT* an easy thing to do. I don't WANT to be posting right now, I want to be burying my face in the ground and staying there until the season starts back up.

But it's the right thing to do, and I know a lot of you (ok, maybe not *ALL*) would do the same for us.

Respect is a 2-way road, and you've earned mine.

I'm going to bed.. I work in 7 hours and probably am going to stare at the ceiling above my bed for another 2.

See you all tommorrow.

Congrats guys, I am absolutely heartbroken but after all of the trashtalk I owe you this...good luck in the future and enjoy the Summer, for 12 minutes tonight with the game on the line you simply got it done, and we didn't.

Simply put I am jealous.

I have a lot of pride, that my team is of the elite and will not turn my back on them for one second. they fought and fought and fought, simply got outplayed for the quarter that counted. It was a hell of a series and I tip my hat of to you guys.

I was cheering for the Pistons like they were the Spurs last year, it felt weird to root against them. To be honest, when you took that lead in the 3rd quarter, I was already rehearsing my "Congrats to Pistons" post.

Great job by the Spurs and Pistons. Hope this shows how other teams should act.

The Piston's are the only team I've ever felt just a little bit badly for when the Spurs have beaten them. Don't get me wrong. I hated them with a passion equivalent only to that I feel for the Lakers, because they were the biggest obstacle this team has faced since playing the 2001 Lakers in the WCF. But man, they're a special team and and they gave the Spurs the greatest fight they've ever had to go against. The difficulty of this title makes it so sweet for me, just as I'm sure your's last year did. No fan can ever forget just how rare a title is, and how much work a team has to put in to get there.

LOL, much appreciated but no need for apologies.

It's part of being a fan.

When it's game on, it's game on. The team, the city, the fans, everything.. it's a part of the ride.

I figure we'll have a few days of lovefest for the champs, because it's well deserved, but then we need to start talking Draft, Rookie Camps, is Darko going to play, should Manu have gotten the MVP, where did Parker go, should Rasheed give up the belts (I think that was be a funny thing to do, but not expected), etc...

For now, great job Spurs. I guess I just don't know what else to say. I went to bed around 1:30am, and did exactly what I thought I would do.. tossed and turned until around 4am, actually found a way to fall asleep, and then the good old alarm went off at 6am... and off to work I go.

It's going to be an incredibly tough day. 8am-7pm at work, working with some of the biggest dipshits that He ever created.

WDB,

Way to represent WDB.

I mirror the sentiment as well. I am hurting the Boys lost, but I cannot think of another team that derserved it more then the Spurs.

I keep saying it over and over - what agreat team. Just like the Pistons. Never relying on a single player, they have the quintesential team. Someone always steps up because these guys really care about each other. They have their brother's back and vice versa. They battle to the end and let stats be damned. The "experts" say it's not sexy for the league. Well, all I can say is these marketing "guru's" need to look at the cities of SA and Det cause they have some of the most dedicated and rabid fans out there.

I just joined this forum this morning cause I wanted to give the Spurs fans a shout out about how good the Spurs are. I agree with WDB in that it woulda been easier to stay away, but I repsect the Spurs a ton and had to let you guys know it.

BTW: The Buckeyes suck!

Exactly what I said earlier. Whott and I had it OUT (along with I think another 40 Spurs fans) all during the series, but it's good to have a day to pass Kudos around. Trash talk is part of sports, and without it.. it's just not the same. At the end of the day, we're all here as fans, and should be expected to act accordingly. At the end, the props are out, the respect is there.. especially between these two teams, and we can all be friends again.

The Spurs fans that hated me during the series had a good point, though. You have to draw a line in the sand at some point. You have to talk smack, it's part of the game.

It's going to be interesting to see what Joe D does about the coaching position and antsy teen Darko. He's been a bust so far in that he hasn't been able to crack the lineup (even in a reserve role) on a team that contains solid, but no true superstars.

Well, the rumor around town is that Darko is going to soak up a lot of minutes this time around. Unbelievably, this will be the FIRST SUMMER that he's going to participate in the Summer Leagues, which is way overdue. I think this will open a lot of eyes to what this kid can or can not do. It may not be NBA calibre play, but it's actual game-time action, which is what the guy needs. If he can actually play to the ability that Joe and Larry brought him in with expectations, it'll be another great year. That remains to be seen though.

All year long, I've been telling people that Detroit was the team to worry about. That they could push back against us better than any team in the league, and they proved me right. Two seasons came down to a matter of one quarter, of 12 simple minutes last night. When you're dealing with two such extraordinary organizations in such historic circumstances (on both sides), then it's really tough to see either of them walk away empty handed. Regardless, your Pistons represented themselves marvelously and held serve until the very end, paving the way for a rivalry that could leave a stamp on the new millenium. I'm sure the ache will take a while to subside, but Detroit fans have no reason to feel bad about the effort made by their team.

WDB, you've been nothing but honor and respect since you've been here, and this forum (and the world) would be absolutely improved if all people could conduct themselves with half the amount of class that you characteristically display. Hell of a show by you and the Pistons fans, especially in the face of defeat, and I look forward to having you all around to debate through the offseason.

I don't think Delfino was left off the playoff roster because of lack of talent or trust in him, but more the fact that for some reason, management knows that they have to treat Darko with kid gloves. If you leave Darko off the roster, there's no way he's resigning if he ends up being worth while. They just feel the need to make sure they don't hurt the kid's feelings.

On the other side, Delfino acted like a bitch in the international media, calling out Larry Brown and Joe Dumars, so it'll be interesting to see if they forgive him for that. He got kind of personal in his hometown newspapers, talking as if he didn't think that it would get back to Joe and Larry. However, he's got solid talent, and you don't need to dump talent in favor of personal grudges. i think Joe and Larry are way too good and smart for that.

But hasn't he already publicly stated that he doesn't appreciate being the "Human Victory Cigar" very much, either?

I mean, this guy isn't Mengke Bateer. He was a Top 3 draft pick.

It's great that he's remained faithful through everything, but if I'm a player with that much supposed "upside", it's going to be hard to appreciate any team that won't even give me a real chance to play, Larry Brown or no Larry Brown.

Yeah, a few times. I can't really blame him, for all the reasons that you already mentioned. I'm getting the impression that Joe (Larry or no Larry) is going to pla Darko much more this coming season. I've heard that he's going to be doing a LOT of work in the Summer League (finally), and he'll be doing quality minutes.

He's the #2 pick in the draft. Whether or not people make light of him, he's worth money on the market. We need to either decide to go with him and make him part of the lineup, or move him before he moves himself at the end of the contract. The only way we're going to do that is to play him and hope he builds himself a value.

Hopefully, if all goes well for both teams next year....we will meet again....barring any unforseen incidents (injuries and such)

I am glad we won....I was not sure until the clock said 00:00 left in the game....if we would have lost.....I would have been disappointed but soothed in the fact that this was a heck of series.

My boyfriend who was not a B-Ball fan until he came to San Antonio last year.....he was impressed by both teams and there professionalism....he did not think the Spurs could win because he felt the Pistons had the better mindset.

Let's do it again next year.
