The ""Miles Away Worlds apart" song wasnt to bad. Kind of had a little Santana flare to it. Overall the song reminded me of something you would hear in the background of an Adam Sandler movie. Are you this guy?

Well, I have Logic Pro and did everything on my computer-recording-wise, but interestingly enough almost everything was done on Garageband since it is so simple to use and very little Logic Pro was needed.
Unless you meant instrument-wise?

For the acoustic track, that was a Taylor Jumbo (315?) and it was just mic'd with a Shure 57 through a Apogee Duet as an interface.

The electrics were a Grosh Custom (strat) with Michael Detemple pickups (vintage wind) through a Vintage Sound Amp (a hand wound Princeton Clone with a Weber Caifornia speaker)

and a Fender SRV strat with Fralin Blues Special pickups.

A friend played a Fender Jazz bass on some songs and other songs I actually played the bass on my guitars--but I used the Garageband virtual bass to simulate the actual bass...doesn't sound as thick as a true bass but it works when you are recording alone and/or don't have an available bassist.

On "Goodbye to You" I used a tweed Victoria 20112 to do the "wes montgomery" jazz-type guitar for the fills and the Princeton clone for the clean rhythm parts.

On No One Like You- I actually played that bass on a little keyboard with the bass patch...and never bothered changing it.

All the guitar parts were mic'd with a shure 57 & 58 in front of the amps -6 inches in the center one mic and the second mic further back to catch the ambient sounds of the room.

The vocals were usually first or second takes as my vocalist is amazing and can express himself and give the words so much emotion after a very short time with the song. There was usually an audience in the room as we liked to get together, prepare some gourmet food, drinks, candles,vibe,girlfriends/wives , friendship, camaraderie,etc... and then we'd start recording and the combination of good food,good booze,good people and the excitement/energy of the music all added to the magic of the finished recording.

I want to switch out my pickups soon but haven't been able to figure out completely what I want to do and what I am able to do. I'm also a retard when it comes to amps and mics. Its prolly a biproduct of me never having the money to spend on these kind of things anyway, so I don't do too much research :lol

Well, if truth be told- I would spend any money on lessons, classes,etc... before the actual gear...but there are some really cool inexpensive solid pieces of gear out there.

Amps: Gotta go with tubes first--but there is a hybrid which is tubes with a section built in for effects...check out the fender vibro champ and super champs---these are great practice amps that sound great and do anything (reverb, echo, tremolo,distortion, clean, etc...)

Funny- I had so many other takes on that first guitar section-but unfortunately they had a different vocal take as well- so I left the lesser toned guitar on there to save the brilliant vocal.

#1) My Girl - Just a romantic ballad for someone recognizing that their girl is a refined
creature.

#2 America...Better Days - A semi-political statement disguised as a road song. I told
the vocalist, "give me some Sam Cooke flavor- Sam Cooke taking a long road trip
through America." M-f#%ker delivered in spades.

#3) My oh My - A song about addiction- but what kind of addiction? I told the vocalist,
"I want to hear what Otis Redding would sound like if he was tormented by
addiction." Fucking prick delivered this gem in ONE take.

#4) I Never Said - A rock song with a spiritual message. A different vocalist and a good
friend from San Antonio who is more of a "power" vocalist. I wrote these lyrics about
ten years ago and it is the pinnacle of my spiritual knowledge. Every word is
measured. It is spiritual and political and the heaviest lyric I have ever written. Not
religious.

I have to include the lyrics to do the song justice.

Adding some new songs and mixing it up a little. As a songwriter/musician, I have worked with a few great musicians and I will add a couple of songs by female vocalists just to change things up a little.

I bumped these 4 songs to #1-4 and kept the other 8 songs in there.

#1) A Dream in Stormy Weather
Just a song depicting a heartbreak from the perspective of a bunch of years gone by
...and now looking back at it as if it were a dream. My regular/main vocalist with the
incredible vocal.

#2) Christmastime
Gotta have a christmas season song in your repertoire. Female vocalist with the
goods. The "feeling" of the season is depicted in all its cozy glory.

#3) Hold On
Different female vocalist but just as good. Song about the temptations and
challenges of relationships. (a little rough spot in the song but I left it in because it
gave it some character---or I was just plain lazy)

#4) She's the One
Back to my main vocalist. A sugary, cheesy pop song with a little story. A great 3
minute story.

"ZEN" in three minutes. Just another one of my spiritual statements. I
had to wait years before I could complete it. Every word has to be "truth"
or else it doesn't pass the test. Vocalist is my buddy from San Antonio

#2) If There's A Heaven
Well, we all have lost someone dear and this was written in a lot of pain
after a double-dose of loss. Tribute to my dad and other combined losses.
Great vocal by my regular vocalist and a great soul-man.

#3) A Brand New Start
Acoustic version of a song of Joy. Life's ups and downs. I felt blessed to
write a song of Joy instead of being the guy that only writes when he is
in pain. Great understated soul vocal again.
