Would you trade SJax to New Orleans or Brooklyn for cap space and a 2013 2nd round pick?
With 19/20 Mill in cap space, we could sign Diaw, Lorbek, Duncan, Hanga, Richards and De Colo. Duncan for 10, Diaw for 4, Lorbek 3, De Colo 1 plus Hanga and Richards for minimum. Draft Robbie Hummel and invite a couple of small forwards to camp
Duncan/Splitter/Blair/Richards
Lorbek/Diaw/Bonner
Leonard/Hummel/ FA
Manu/Neal/De Colo/Hanga
Parker/De Colo/Joseph
Stash Joseph, Richards and Hanga on the Toros for learning and observation. If they are going to pan out then a year in the D-league would be far better than in Europe or riding the Spurs bench.
Just bring them over now, and let the play in the summer league. Cant hurt to have a little peek at them playing together. Richards, Lorbek, Hummel, Hanga, De Colo, and Joseph for the summer league. If If Blair, Leonard and Neal want to work out with them, that would be even better.

Shut the F up with that idea
So we keep SJax, 37 yrs old, lose Diaw and lose valuable work with what could be the future of the Spurs? Does SJax mean that much to the Spurs? Everybody wants to keep Diaw and sign FA's when the SALARY cap is screwing us to death. At least, this is a solution to our cap problems.
If you dont like this. SAY why and what you would do instead of using "F... NO" or "Shut the F up".

I was going to answer this sarcastically but decided against it. Even without trading Sjax, the Spurs can for sure resign Duncan, De Colo, and one of Lorbek and Diaw (possibly both depending on what they are willing to play for). Plus any team can sign players to minimum contracts regardless of capspace provided they have the roster spots open.
So either your trading Sjax for a roster spot, a 2nd round pick, and to save Peter Holt and Co money, or there really isn't much point in trading him. Especially if your looking to replace him for a FA

Where have you been? Did you watch Jackson in the playoffs? That cat is mentally tough and brings nasty to the team and always will no matter how old he is this team needed mental toughness and we sure didn't have it with Jefferson. I'm happy with Jackson it's not everyday a team has a guy like Jackson. You need a player like him if you want to win a championship.

I thought if we trade S Jax, we have to take on a relatively close amount of player salary in return. Jax is an expiring which is normally thought to have a high value for teams looking to dump bad long-term contracts, since I think the salary match requirement applies mainly (or only) to the first year.
So we would be the suckers here, unless we received 2-3 lower priced players in return who were worth rostering. I see little incentive for another team to trade us 2-3 decent lower priced player for Jax, that will improve our team.
Basically a team would have to do something stupid, like trade us a Kawai Leonard, someone on a rookie contract that performs much higher than their salary, for this to be worthwhile.
I think with Jax we have a guy that probably wants to retire a Spur. Since that is likely mutual, I am thinking resign Jax for 2-3 years in the $10-$15 range in total (not per year). Thinking along the same lines for Manu.
That would take $14+ million off of our payroll, after next season, while allowing those fan favorites to play it out while adding some new, younger players.

Yea let's trade the only guy who stepped up against OKC in the WCF this year and the only guy who gives us an edge on the floor so that we can sign unproven Euro players and a couple of late 2nd round picks.. That'll win us another Championship! :rolleyes

Diaw *might* fetch more than 4... (if you look at a guy like Frye who's making 5.6)
I much rather move Bonner's 3+ million for a future pick + cash (or a couple of future picks) and use that cash on Lorbek. If we have to add Blair as a sweetener, so be it.
Jack needs to stay... between him and Kawhi, we got the wing covered.

You only trade Jackson for two reasons.
1, you can get a bonafied legit big man to put next to Duncan.
2 somehow hes packaged to move up in the draft to get a said bigman.
Other than that, I see zero reason to trade Stephen Jackson.
He's a player that excels in his later years due to his game of perimeter shooting, occasional drives to the basket, and good solid defense.

I agree SJax needs to retire a Spur; the prodigal son comes home.

This is illogically ridiculous.
If you're clearing cap space to sign Diaw/Lorbek - then you're gunning for the short term (as we should be). If you're gunning for the short term, you don't have FOUR rookies + Joseph taking up 1/3 of your roster slots.

Unless there is some once-in-a-lifetime trade opportunity. Hell no
Never say never, but I highly doubt the Spurs went to such lengths to bring back Jack only to get rid of him the following season.

The Spurs core should be built around Duncan, Parker and Leonard. Anyone else is on the trade block if the Spurs could add younger more athletic bigger players.

SJax's 10mil expiring contract is a valuable trade chip. It would be stupid for the Spurs to not explore all the possibilities.
