LeBron James is the first player since Tim Duncan (2003) to win the NBA title, NBA MVP, and Finals MVP all in the same season.

First of all, congrats to LeBron.

Potential conversations...

Who would you take, 03 Duncan or 12 James?

Does anyone have a comprehensive list of every player to accomplish this?

lol, it's pretty hard to win the Finals MVP and not win the title. Those kind of go together with the exception of like 1 time.

Okay, fair enough - but it's very possible to win the title and not win the Finals MVP.

Triple crown is MVP, Finals MVP, Olympic Gold Medal.

Well then yup, Lebrons got that on lock

And yet - as "easy" as you say it is - this has only happened twice in 9 years. So clearly it is a difficult thing to achieve.

Duncan 2003, because you can never go wrong with a big man.

lebron was pretty much unstoppable once Bosh came back to clear things up. If Bosh didn't recover, I think that the C's might've taken them. Once he got back, we weren't able to double Lebron/Wade.

James also had a triple-double in a title-clinching game, as Duncan did in 2003. These things don't happen often...so this could be remembered as James's best year.

TD was only a couple blocks shy of a quad-double. '03 TD was a monster.

Probably. USA barely won in 2008 and Manu's team won in 2004.

Wade, Bosh and LeBron will never pass up the chance to be tagged as NBA Champions and Olympic Gold Medalists in one year.

lol wtf does the gold medal have to do with anything? a MVP, championship, and finals MVP in the same season is an accomplishment achieved only by a hallowed few.

Yeah, so why not go for more? LeBron is all about winning now so he will never pass this opportunity up.

And besides, he will match Jordan's magical 1992 season if he wins the Gold.

Team USA is going to kick some serious ass in the Olympics.

Silver medal is going to be the championship for the rest of the field, because nobody is taking away gold from the United States with how stacked the roster is.

Yep...because he's just that great. You think we have to stretch to find Duncan on record lists? Trust me; it wasn't hard.

Triple crown is MVP, DPoY and Finals MVP, clown.

You think so? Interesting...so who has done that?

So here is the list of every player to accomplish this:

1970 Willis Reed (New York)
1971 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Milwaukee)
1983 Moses Malone (Philadelphia)
1984 Larry Bird (Boston)
1986 Larry Bird (Boston)
1987 Magic Johnson (LAL)
1991 Michael Jordan (Chicago)
1992 Michael Jordan (Chicago)
1994 Hakeem Olajuwon (Houston)
1996 Michael Jordan (Chicago)
1998 Michael Jordan (Chicago)
2000 Shaquille O’Neal (LAL)
2003 Tim Duncan (San Antonio)
2012 LeBron James (Miami)

So this was the second-longest layoff between two occurrences in history (9 years), while the longest layoff ended in 1983 (after 12 years).

*Note: the Finals MVP only began in 1969, while the MVP award began in 1956. So there were 13 players who could have potentially done it, but didn't have the chance...namely Bob Pettit, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, and Wilt Chamberlain.

Hehe, good one.

So now make a list of every player to do it. (It will be a short list.)

Lol, nice.

...And that's why you can't really call it the triple crown, if only one guy in history has done it. Plus, DPOY is bullshit. It has been given to the wrong person more times than any other award.

All-Defensive team is more accurate tbh. Why the hell hasn't Duncan won DPOY at any point in his career even if he made the All-Defensive team 13 straight times?

DPOY typically either goes to a big whose criteria are "how imposing is he physically and how many blocks per game goes he have?" or a wing whose criteria are "how much dirty D can he get away with without making the referees blow their superstar call whistles and how many steals per game does he have?"

That's why stats outside points/rebounds/assists are murky.

No, a gold medal isn't an NBA award.

The real triple crown is MVP, Finals MVP and DPOY. Hakeem was the last player to do that.

It's a wonderful thing how well placed Duncan is in the record books..

1 of 8 to be Reg season MVP and Finals MVP same season.. (2003)
1 of 3 to have a triple double in a close-out game of the finals (Duncan 2003)
Duncan almost had a Quad Double, 21/20/10/8...

Amazing stuff....
