I run, but there are plenty of 5ks in San Antonio to go to. Why waste the gas when I can go to one in town?

I'm planning on running the Run for Life 5k on September 18th.

His statement was related to runners in general, not Austin runners. :ihit

Yeah, I too do most of my running in the SA area.

Ya, this was meant more for those living in Austin. I definitely wouldn't drive for a 5K. Strange event where you drink before you run :lol

Culinaria does a 5k in March at La Cantera where wine is at the finishing line. I don't think drinks at the end is too weird. Austin thinking they're so cool.

No one needs to worry about keeping Austin weird. It's the weirdest place in the world now, if you consider weird to mean old retarded women who talk to themselves and homeless people wearing thongs.

This was drinking from 2-7, then a 5K at 7:05.

It sure sounds like it. But seriously, why drink before the run? That would honestly make it really tough.

It's not a competitive run; more like a festival then a 5K. Not everyone was drinking (there was food, music, shops...) but several were. Definitely not easy when it's scorching hot and you have drinks to run after :lol

Keep Austin Weird is a slogan for Small Business in Austin. There are many other cities that lifted the slogan for example, Portland,OR and Louisville, KY.

I think I'm going to shoot for a biathlon in September. Will keep North Austin boring.

DPG21920

Yeesh - I have never done a marathon or any athlon's :lol

I played soccer my entire life, so I am used to running but I get so bored after 3 miles (plus not playing like I used to makes it harder since it's just for staying in shape and not playing a sport).

I definitely don't like the drink then run, but I don't mind the run then drink events. I need to join a men's league team up here for soccer.

BTW, Chump, definitely going to try and take advantage of going to UT basketball and Toros games now that I am here.

LOL I live up north but it still beats San Antonio in every way possible except for housing. Down in San Vato 400k gets you a mansion, here a 1200 sqft house from the 80s.

You last way longer than I do. I've been a dancer since I was about four, and have stayed active/athletic even in the years since I stopped actively training, so I've always been in good shape, but I have always hated running. Hated. Since I was a kid. Love walking, but can't stand running/jogging. You see me running, you can be certain you'll soon see whatever's chasing me.

DPG21920
06-25-2012, 10:33 PM
:lol I am ok with running a couple miles, but I'd much prefer competition through sport. I guess I need to find something else to compete at to keep in shape since there is no more college soccer for me (since the past few years).

ChumpDumper
06-26-2012, 01:40 AM
I always stayed in shape through non-impact activities like swimming and cycling. I have had to really ease into running as I am so prone to severe shin splints if I don't. The trails around my place keep it interesting for me.

06-26-2012, 01:55 AM
Same here, I'm basically incapable of doing activities that aren't fun like running or going to the gym.

I found a coed indoor soccer league, and also play tennis. That's the way to go - find a sport you love and play it. Also meet some cool people.

What worked for you, out of curiosity? Change up insoles, running styles, or something else?

What worked for you, out of curiosity? Change up insoles, running styles, or something else?Really just a few weeks of walking, hiking and jogging. My mistake in the past was doing too much, too soon. It never mattered much with the other activities I did before.

Couldn't tell you. Portland has been weird for a very long time.

When Austin has their own series, like "Portlandia," then maybe it can be called weird.
