Kobe got his money (well deserved I might add) under a different CBA. MJ made about the same when he was in his twilight years. The difference? MJ had two HOF teammates that were still 1st team all-NBA Defense to help him 3peat a second time.

Since this is a thread about the Mamba, let's flip the script. How many of the below accomplishments belonging to Kobe, will Dwayne Wade Surpass?

Points: 29,484 - Nope - I doubt it - and Kobe ain't done :toast
Assists: 5,418 - Probably
Rebounds: 6,142 - Nope - I doubt it
Steals: 1,722 - Maybe
Rangs: 5 - Hell to the No
NBA Finals Appearances: 7 - ^
MVP - Not if your team is not your team anymore! :lol
NBA All Star: 14 - Hell to the No!
All-star MVPs: 4 - Nope - I doubt it
All-NBA Selections: 14 - Hell to the No
All-NBA 1st Team Def: 12 - ^
Consecutive 50+ point games: 4 - :lol
ZERO Bronze Medals - D-Whistle - ONE :lmao
How about current NBA records Kobe has?

Most All-Star Game MVP awards won, career: 4 - :lol
Most All-Star Game points scored, career: 271 - :downspin:
Most All-Star Game field goals made, career: 111 - :lol
Most offensive rebounds in an All-Star Game: 10 - :downspin:
Most All-Defensive First Team honors won, career: 9 (tied with MJ - including this year over your boy) :toast
Most three-point field goals made, one game: 12 -:lol
Most three-point field goals made, one half: 8 - :downspin:

So, I'd say he is so relevant that you decided to make a thread about a TOSB entering his 17th year. Well, D-Whistle has a ton of work to do to be even in the same sentence as the legendary Kobe Bryant. Problem is, his game won't age as gracefully as Kobe's has. There is nothing that a guard is supposed to do that Kobe can't do. D-Whistle? Not so much. He's already breaking down as we speak (doubtful for the Olympics due to a bum pinkie toe :lmao). Meanwhile Kobe will play (even though I'd rather he not play).

So before you start another thread trying to clown the Mamba do your homework. Capeesh? :toast

LeBron has almost 20.000 points. He's scoring +2.000 points every season. I recall the game Kobe went to MSG scoring 60 points with no rebounds or assists. Great coverage by the media, MJ comparing, full hype. The next game at MSG few days later under tremendous pressure, LeBron scored 50 points, +10 assists and 9 rebounds. No one reported that, but obviously LeBron won the MVP that season.

LeBron completely eclipsed Kobes career, he was better than Kobe since his second season. Right now the difference is ridiculous tbh.

Kobe hasn't been a consistently positive presence on the floor for at least two years now. . .maybe three.

This last season he was particularly terrible. For the first time since his rookie season, he's literally had a negative impact on the game score on average throughout the season.

Kobe also posted his least efficient scoring season of his career too (worst TS% and eFG% of career), and worst offensive rating since rookie year.

He also had the 9th best defensive rating on the team (aka, he was about as good as the team scrubs on D'), and even more sad, just 8th best offensive rating on the team. . .

Anybody who still thinks this guy is a top 3-5 player needs to stop sniffing glue. The only thing Kobe does anymore is get a high PPG. His defense is meh and his scoring effenciency is as bad as it's ever been (for him).

Kobe's still good. . .but he's no longer worthy of being called an elite player or a centerpiece of a team unless all you're looking for is ticket sales.

I said this two years ago and I'm going to stick by it. The Lakers will not win a title as long as Kobe is still on the team. His positives do not outweigh his negatives anymore (ball hogging, chucking too much late in games, not setting up teammates enough, trying to always take the last shot to hog all the glory as opposed to passing to an open teammate).

Kobe Bryant: He's had a great career, but now he's just a stat factory like Monta Ellis.

Kobe, still mentioned the most on this board :lol

That's why he's so valuable to the Laker franchise, he can score 5ppg @ 10% and still be one of the most popular players in the league. Pretty sad tbh :(

You asked if he was relevant. I took a shit on that take by posting many accolades that Kobe has accomplished (including NBA records that Wade won't break). I even stated that just this year, Kobe was 1st team All NBA and 1st teall All NBA defense. This trumps Wade and makes Wade irrelevant. :lol

Then, grasping at straws, you resort to salary smack. STAPLES seats 18,997 per game (more when we play the Clippers). How many of them are Kobe fans? Even if it were only 10,000 "Kobe fans" that pay good money to see him perform, that's well-worth the $27M he's paid. And that's not mentioning concessions, jersey and shoe sales, commercials, etc. Kobe is idolized by SoCal. Even during the shitty 2006 season, he was the reason why STAPLES sold out on many of the 41 home games. In other words, he's worth every penny. I think Kool even posted that he generates million$ (literally) for Dr. Buss. He's still Dr. Buss' cash cow. Even in his 16th year, he brought the goods. :toast

Fact is, Wade couldn't hold Kobe's jockstrap without FTAs. He is by far the most overrated "superstar" in NBA history. He was only gifted a ring because of Shaq in 2006. 6 years later, Bron gifted him one this year. :downspin:

South Beach or Cleveland was the decision. Not necessarily to go play with Wade.

If I were Riles, I'd trade Wade's sorry ass. He's already in decline. It's Bron's team. They've proven the Bron/Bosh is a formidable tandem based on the record you guys had with Wade out of the lineup. Bron and Wade are the same player. One is younger, faster, stronger, better hoops IQ.

Wade could probably get you guys Matt Bonner in a trade. Do it RC. :lol

And stop reaching about salary. That's retarded. We all know players that didn't make shit during their first couple of seasons raped their teams in their latter years - even if their production dipped. I guess TD wasn't worth $20M to the the Spurs. MJ wasn't worth $30M to the Bulls. Etc. Etc. :rolleyes

Fact: Wade isn't as good as the referees make him out to be. Neal with it.

Fact: Wade was a big part of the championship run and was the only reason LeBron ended up in Miami. At this point, Wade is more efficient, a better defender and basically half the price of Kobe. That "analysis" is really the hype I'm talking about. Kobe was never better outside shooter than LeBron, was never better in the clutch, nor it was ever that unstoppable. If what they spoke were the true Kobe would have won the MVP that season but it was just impossible to deny LeBron was better. And no one would think about Shaq and Gasol/Bynum/Odom carrying Kobe to the championships if there weren't some true in there.

LeBron had all the pressure on him, he and Kobe competed for the MVP, his rival scored 60. No one wanted LeBron to have a better game few days later, it was about selling Kobe as MJ 2.0. The media picked which Kobe's game to hype - after he scored 60. LeBron had no options but to better that, 3 days later in the same place.

It's easier to have a desire to win when you land on the Lakers with Phil Jackson and prime Shaq.

Try having that same desire with a broken footed Yao, Amare or Caron Butler as your stars.

Kobe with two of the best big men in the game in Bynum and Gasol, a 6motY in Odom, and Phil Jackson as a coach cannot win a game in the 2nd round against Dirk and 40 year old Jason Kidd.

However, in his day, Kobe was a force to be reckoned with, mainly because of the inside options so you couldn't double him without giving up points in the paint, and the triangle was right up his alley.

What does injuries have to do with it ? I'm talking about attitude.
Even when Yao was healthy, he was as soft as they come.
Amare just doesn't have "it," never will.
And Shaq could have been 10 times more the player he was if he
wasn't so lazy. You don't see Kobe making comments like
"healing on company's time" do you ? You don't see Kobe getting
complacent after one or a few championships or after a fat paycheck. If you want to talk about

An injured Manu would still have more desire and will to win

Come on LkrFag, you're building a team right now. Who do you take LeBron or Kobe? 17 Or 27?

With hindsight being 20/20 - and both in their pre-prime years? I'd take Kobe believe it or not. The Killer Instinct LeBron is developing at age 27 was being displayed by Kobe at age 18. Remember the 3 airballs against Utah in the playoffs? Nobody - not Eddie Jones, not NVE, not Fisher - nobody was willing to take those shots. Kobe had the balls to take 'em. Sure, he missed them - but the fact that he was willing to take them speaks volumes of his character as a player. LeBron, from his rookie year until even now won't take those shots (more often than not). Kobe? He'll take them everytime - despite what a miss would do to his shooting percentages. Call me a homer all you want, but Kobe is still good, even going into his 17th year. He was truly amazing in his prime. He is still relevant. I got proof (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=144287) too. :lol

But if we were talking strictly on age right now, I'd be foolish to take a player in his 17th year over someone in their prime. That would be the only reason for me to choose LeBron over Kobe. LeBron has had a team built around him for several years and couldn't get it done. When Shaq/Kobe split, most of the championship vets left the Lakers as well. We were left with Smush, Mihm, Kwame, Vlade Rad, LO, Luke, and other scrubs. Once the Laker FO put a competent team around Kobe he repeated as a champion. LeBron has finally won, but it took 55-year old Battier playing out of his mind, Chalmers shooting lights out, and a top 5 SG and PF to get it done. Kobe won back-to-back with less overall talent. :toast

No, he is still much better than they are. He didn't win 5 titles by being a complete ball hog during those title runs. He involved his teammates before and other aspects as well. In the earlier runs, he was also playing both ends of the floor. To put him in the likes of Tmac, VC, and Arenas only reflects your hate.

But this year, I agree that he was playing too much hero ball.
