And will he re-sign with the Spurs?

He had a decent RS. 15/9
He had a good playoff season. 17/9

I'm guessing hometown discount: 2 years/$25 million.

Discuss.

Reasonable price. It also means the Spurs have cap space once his contract retires (and there are A LOT of expiring contracts in 2013, which means the Spurs can either continue stealth rebuilding or go for broke).

His per 36 numbers are also as good as his career numbers tbh

13/14, could be 15 a year. Send-off money for him. The Spurs owe him that much.

I think Pop will offer him roughly $18/2 yr.

For what he has done and his loyalty he deserves a nice $11million/1 year deal and a guaranteed front office job.
Awesome player in his prime, he did have a great year but his definately has alot of wear and tear on the knees.
Regardless his a class act.

Because 6/5 for a point guard who can't run or shoot is definitely the same as as 15/9 for a bigman who can still defend the post?

Duncan is the franchise. Even if he is in the twilight of his career, the Spurs will pay him out of respect alone. But I'm betting he will accept a semi-reasonable deal if it means keeping the Spurs in contention and giving them financial flexibility.

He deserves $8 or $9 mil per year, for at least 2 or 3 years, from the Spurs. You pay the man who wins you rings.

I don't see Duncan doing any front office work after he retires :lol

If TD decides to come back, I'm sure he'll want to do so if he knows the Spurs can contend for a title. He's also smart enough to understand the nature of the business, and I highly doubt he'll hamstring the franchise with an outrageous contract.

I would tell Duncan name your contract.

I think Tim deserves what ever he wants, but I think it's funny how some act like the Spurs owe him something. It's been a pretty nice two way street and the Spurs have paid Tim a ton of money.

I think he gets 2 years, 30M.

Peg lower.

Can't go lower than nothing, holmes.

From a financial standpoint, the Spurs have paid Tim a lot of money. That is what I was referring to. I said he deserves whatever he wants - I am simply saying it's not like the Spurs have taken advantage of Tim financially.

Spurs might as well be generous, they are in the fishing boat with the rest of us.

Agreed. I presumed he would give guys a slight discount to ensure you guys can sign a few more players though. Hence my guess of 2/$25M.

That wouldn't really help this year - might help next year some. There is a level of salary he would have to take this year in order for it to make a difference. If he doesn't take that might as well take 30-40M over two years.

Shouldn't Duncan just retire, anyways? He sees basketball as a job, not a past time. Pretty sure he didn't spend his fortune on Bentley's made out of crack rock, should be fine to live an off the court life now.

I'm thinking between 10-15 per year for 2 years, with a player option for the second.

He will take a large paycut (he was getting a fuckload), but the Spurs will still give him a 2 year deal and pay him more than his production will be worth out of loyalty for everything he's brought to the team.

I won't feel like the Spurs would be lowballing him either, because let's face it. . .he's been making max money his entire career, and has been getting more than he's been worth the last 3 seasons. He'll still be overpaid (and I'm fine with it), but considering how he's declined so much and still been paid like a top 3 player, I think it's fair to not give him 20+ anymore. 15m range sounds about right.

given the Spurs low budget and basically welfare status as an NBA team I think he deserves a 1 yr 8.5 million deal plus a front office..ooops I meant back office position...:lol

real talk I see Mr. Tim Duncan having a portfolio type career as a Spurs broadcaster, consultant, international recruiter, and academic, working on coverage of a weekly NBA basketball games on a Spurs television channel very very similar to what Mr. John Amechi does...:lol

Duncan was worth the max as rookie, so the last seasons he was overpaid seems to be the compensation.

10M x 3 years, the last season a team option 50% guaranteed to save cap space the first two seasons when the Spurs will try to contend. It's the same 12.5M / season TP gets.
