Per realgm , is he really that good?
#1 - Yes, he is.
#2 - No, they won't.

No way I'm giving Parker up for Beal unless the team is being blown up. And if that's the case, I want MKG.

Here's the source of the rumor:
Still, Presti has seriously considered finding a way to get to Beal. A number of sources said that Presti spent three days in Gainesville during the lockout watching the Gators practice, a fact that Beal confirmed Wednesday.
A source also said that Florida coach Billy Donovan met with Presti in Dallas when he took his two nephews to the Oklahoma City-Dallas first-round playoff series in May. Presti and Donovan have had multiple conversations on the phone about Beal, as well.
A source with direct knowledge of the situation said, "Oklahoma City exhausted every opportunity on campus to find out everything they could find out about Beal. They've done everything they can."
San Antonio, which doesn't pick until No. 59 in the second round, as well as Atlanta, which does have a first-round pick at No. 23, also made a number of calls to Donovan and Florida in the hope that each team could move up to land Beal.
But the source said the teams told Donovan it would have to be the "parting of the red sea," to pull off a move to get up to the top of three in the draft.
"They gave (Donovan) the impression that they were trying to move up to get Brad," said the source.
When reached Wednesday, Donovan did say that teams wanted to know why Beal was passive early in the season.
"Brad was very concerned about what other guys think of him on the team but in a good way," said Donovan. "He's never going to try to come in and take over."

This, basically. Unless Duncan is retiring, I wouldn't blow up the team to get Beal. I think he'll be good but I'm not nearly sold enough to give up Parker for him unless there is a total rebuild. Even then, I probably hold out for more than just Beal.

More seriously, Spurs don't really have a shot at him. However, if Thunder trade Harden for him, it would be a damn good news for Spurs.

Times like these I wish I watched college basketball or knew anything about the players.
Beyond Anthony David and MKG (thanks to Baseline for hyping him since January) I don't know any of these players.
Surely Beal cannot be worth Tony Parker though..

If he's the guy we want and he's attainable, give up anything except Tim and Kawhi to get him. The sooner we get young and bad, the sooner we can be primed and ready.
I don't want to make the playoffs if we aren't winning the whole thing.
I want early draft picks....desperately!

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Think a better passing and handling Iguodala with a higher ceiling. Needs serious work on the jumpshot, but does almost everything else well and has a great work ethic, so the jumpshot will come.

Well that's good because no "rebuilding" team is going to want a 30 year-old pg. That sort of defeats the purpose of rebuilding.

That is the comparison every scout has made, i.e., Beal = Eric Gordon.
It looks like an apt comparison.
But I wouldn't trade Parker for the original Eric Gordon, himself.

I don't expect anything, but if the Spurs were to move up, Beal was the guy I was hoping for. I am not high on many of the bigs at all (maybe Drummond, but super risky). My thinking is I would like a dynamic 2 guard to fill what I perceive to be a decent need now (starter with athleticism and skill) that can bridge the gap between now and the future like Kawhi at a strong position.
A SG that has a lot of upside like Beal, when paired with Kawhi makes the future look pretty nice.
DPG21920
06-27-2012, 09:35 PM
But if that means TP (which it likely would have to), no.
If it is Manu - I would be more open to that. Although I wouldnt be thrilled and I don't see a scenario where that makes sense for the Spurs either.

If Spurs trade into top 10 it will likely be for Henson, Rivers or Ross.
As risky as Henson is, I think he's got enough upside to take in the top 10 of a deep draft. I could very well see him dropping into the late teens or early 20s with that build though.

If Spurs trade into top 10 it will likely be for Henson, Rivers or Ross.
If they trade into the 22-30 Range, I think they go after D Lamb who could start right away in our system and would be a steal.
A family member who works for an NBA team in the lower FO told me a few hours ago Spurs did discuss a trade with Char that would send T Thomas and the second pick to SA for Jax, Splitter and future draft picks but talks did not get far as Spurs not willing to take on Thomas contract, they believe he will be bought out.
Jordan not looking to biuld a winning team he wants to make money so keeping salaries low does not want more rookies.
That seems to suggest FO is not looking to move up in this draft but to accumulate future picks or shed salary. Trade Jax & Splitter but don't take T Thomas contract seems like a move to blow up the team.

I'm sorry but a trade like this that doesn't include one of the big 3 is a no brainer. If this is true the front office is on crack. I'm going to call bs on this.

It is being circled around the league that Char. is insisting that anyone looking to make a trade for the 2nd overall pick must be willing to take Thomas' contract as well.

It's not about the player, it's about shedding TT's 3 years and taking on a player with only 1 year left. They might even try to buy Jack out.

The cousin of my step-brother who happens to work for a truck company that delivers discardable coffe cups to the Cavs FO said he overheard them talking about an offer from the Spurs (Neal+Tiago+Blair, plus the Coyote as sweetener for the #3 pick), but Cavs apparently were adamant to include Corey Joseph in the trade and that was a deal breaker for the Spurs...
Just passing it along...

Call me crazy but if you think about the kind of bigman you want to put next to Duncan it is Tyrus Thomas. The best case scenario of Tyrus Thomas but still. He is a mobile althetic big who blocks shots, grabs some boards, and even has some range. Granted he is a head case but look at where he is playing. I am not saying we should be jumping for him but I don't think it is too tough to swallow if we took on his contract.
My only question is why are the Spurs so high on Beal? I am not saying he won't be a good or even great player but if we are in win now mode how does he help us? He seems as if he is a glorified spot up shooter from what I read. He doesn't address our weaknesses.
