Kevin Garnett is staying with the Celtics. The Herald has learned this morning that Garnett has informed the club he will be back.
The 36-year-old considered retirement, but ultimately decided to return for an 18th NBA season — and more.

According to an NBA source and a source close to Garnett, the sides are working out the details of a deal that will be for at least two years and could possibly include a third.

“The decision came down to whether KG wanted to keep playing,” said one source. “And once he decided that he did, it was going to be Boston. He wasn’t going to leave Doc (River) and those guys and play anywhere else.”

Concerns about the mileage on his body were alleviated when Garnett’s numbers improved dramatically during these last playoffs and indeed down the stretch of the regular season. The increases roughly coincided with his move from power forward to center, where he was able outmaneuver bigger centers and pull them out to the perimeter while taking smaller opponents inside and scoring over them.

“Kevin was absolutely great this season, and he just wants to keep going,” said a source. “And when you look at how he was playing, there’s no reason for him to stop.”

No surprise. KG looked to have plenty left in the tank and he wasn't leaving Boston.

I told you so...

Danny Ainge picked a couple of big men with the knowledge Garnett was returning.

This makes Garnett the highest-paid NBA player of all time.

I told MS there was a strong possiblity of KG getting 3+ years. If KG got 11M there is no way Tim should take less than that unless he is giving charity to the Spurs.

I agree even I have the feeling Tim has less in the tank than KG tbh

i don't see where it says anything about 3yrs+

2 years with a team option for a 3rd is a much more safe bet than a 3 or 4 year deal outright

Good to hear. Even if KG loses it this year, he's great for the new big guys to study under.

You don't see that? It says 3 years in the report :lol Of course that is safer, doesn't change the fact it's 3 years and we don't know if its a team option.

Jesus couldn't teach Fab Melo an offensive game tbh. Not even Bible Magic Jesus.

i'm willing to bet it's a team option or qualifying option, meaning that the celtics felt about as safe giving him a guaranteed 3rd year as i do

That would definitely be smart, I agree. (not sure what you mean by qualifying option though)

qualifying offer such as..if garnett is still playing at a certain level 2 years from now, he would meet criteria to play a 3rd year. you've really never heard of that? it's pretty common.

it's good for if say they don't know what level a guy is going to be playing at in the future, they can choose to end his contract early if he's no longer worth the money it's just insurance

I've heard of it, it just doesn't apply to KG. What you are describing sounds like a team option or partially guaranteed contract. The QO is something different.

the mavericks had a similar provision in dampier's contract, the last year was partially guaranteed based on performance. that's what i'm referring to, something like that or a team option would make sense for the 3rd year.

Ya, I was just confused when you said qualifying offer, since that is something different & I wasn't sure where you were going with that.

they hoisted the series to 7 games with us don't forget that, i think if they can get abit upgrade on the backcourt while keepin the main niggas, they're putting up a decent shot @ the championship next season tbh

too bad for them mavs that another potential great signing removed off the shelf :cry
